Earlier today, a police patrol tried to stop a blue BMW travelling at high speed on the M22 Randalstown. The driver of the BMW failed to stop, and rammed the patrol off the road. If anyone has any dash cam footage of this incident, please contact police, incident 1486, 25/4/2020.
We are conducting patrols today to ensure everyone’s safety during

Detailed Motorway response today. Please remember there is no such thing as the "fast lane!"😠 If you are not overtaking another vehicle, move back to the nearside/Lane 1 or dare I say it "slow lane." We will be stopping drivers who fail to do this today.

This lovely Lambo came to Road Policing Interceptors notice due to the missing front registration plate.
The driver has been issued a £30.00, and provided with advice on how to display a number plate in future.
We are mindful of the increase in cyclists on the roads with the brighter mornings and evenings. Please remember to give them enough room when overtaking. Allow at least 1.5m when passing cyclists and other vulnerable road users.
#2WheelOperation
For information of NI motorists. There are significant issues on the M1 motorway with multiple trees down blocking lanes. Officers are deployed and working with partner agencies to get the roads cleared as a priority. Slow down, and be hazard aware. Stay safe.
Wee update on the found kitten. This wee dote has been checked over by a vet and given the all clear. The kitten has now been adopted by a caring animal lover and will now be very well looked after. Thank you to all of you who sent best wishes and enquiring to adopt.
Another thankfully rare incident... A driver was stopped earlier today after being spotted using blue and red flashing lights to pass other vehicles on the M1... if you’re idiotic enough to buy something like this to use on a public road, expect a day in Court!

Operation Close Pass is underway today on the north coast. We have already had to speak to a motorist who “close passed” our plain clothes Police cyclist. The road is a shared space - If you encounter a cyclist today, please give them room.

This morning a cyclist was stopped in Belfast by Mahon Rd RPU for breaching a red light at a pedestrian crossing. Remember traffic lights are there for a reason - and the legal requirement to stop at red lights applies to both cyclists and motorists, breaching it is an offence.
During our recent close-pass op we stopped 103 vehicles who didn’t leave 1.5m between their vehicle and a cyclist.
55 motorists were spoken to, 16 motorists were given advice and one motorist was stopped for being on their phone while overtaking a cyclist and will be prosecuted
At around 08:50 hours this morning an Armed robbery of a Security vehicle took place in Belfast City Centre. As a result ANPR Interceptor Team officers arrested 2 persons that made off on foot from a crashed vehicle.
Enquiries ongoing.

Yesterday, one cruising machine from Roads Policing, Steeple, stopped beside another cruising machine from Royal Caribbean. I know which one I’d prefer to be sitting in. Lol. Great to see cruise ships and visitors returning to our shores.
Drivers... on your way to work this morning think about those riding a bike to work... give them as much space as a car during an overtake and never drive or park in cycle lanes, they are there for a reason.

Road Policing officers from Maydown nearly had kittens when they saw this car while on patrol in the NW. We know the sun has been shining but this is not the answer! This driver was given a Fixed Penalty Notice and thankfully the sun blinds were removed!

Last night, officers from Mahon Road station stopped this Audi using pre-emptive tactics in order to prevent the likelihood of a pursuit.

Among the range of offences Road Policing Officers routinely deal with, one of the most basic is drivers failing to use the nearside lane on motorways and dual carriageways etc. This holds up traffic and increases congestion. One of the first rules of the road - keep left!

One from our colleagues in PSNI Dog Section as they don’t have their own Social media page.
Police Dog (PD) Jess assisted colleagues from District Support Team (DST) locate over £5k of Class A drugs during a search in the Police Lisburn & Castlereagh area today.
Good job Jess.
This morning Road Policing officers from Mahon Road station stopped this Lexus and found that the driver’s licence hadn’t been valid since 2016. Her MOT and tax had also expired.
The icing on the cake was the lack of insurance. The vehicle has now been seized.
Stolen VW Golf successfully stopped using approved police tactics by RPU officers, Mahon Road, in south Down earlier today. The 4 occupants of this Golf made off on foot. A joint effort from local officers, police chopper, dog callsigns and RPU arrested the 4 occupants nearby.

A day in Court awaits…
As it's Ryder Cup weekend, colleagues from Roads Policing in Steeple thought they had an Eagle but had to settle for a Birdie as they rescued this injured bird from the carriageway of the M2. It has been left in the care of our local vets and hopefully makes a full recovery.
Restricted Driver (45mph limit) detected by Roads Policing Steeple this morning at over twice his permitted speed. A young, inexperienced driver who will now have to explain his actions to a magistrate. Cue the Restricted Driver debate……but the law here is 45mph folks.
Earlier today, officers from Steeple were patrolling the M2 in Ballymena when a driver decided to speed, unfortunately for this driver, there was a police patrol who detected this driver at this speed. The driver will now have the opportunity to explain this speed to a judge.
This afternoon we'll be helping escort a slow-moving ambulance with a patient onboard as it travels from Belfast to Mayobridge via M1, A1, Newry & Warrenpoint.
Motorists please be patient and understand that this slow pace is necessary for the wellbeing of the patient onboard.
Thankfully this is a rare sight... a driver driving schoolchildren, making a call on his mobile phone while going down the M1 in wet conditions. The dangers involved are blatantly obvious...
After being stopped by Mahon Rd RPU the driver is now liable for points and fines.

We know that motorists should think about cyclists out on the road but at this time of year cyclists have their part to play too by wearing high viz and having lights front and rear, if a driver can’t see you, they can’t give you the space you need to be safe 🚲

Scott, the idea is to reduce speeds to within legal limits, reducing the risk of serious collisions (reducing the burden on the NHS). We always have a legal obligation to enforce legislation, incl. speed limits. If you think that’s “stealing a penny” then stay within speed limits
