Today, we aim to shed light on this important aspect of the fight against illicit drugs, highlighting the processes and stakeholders involved in ensuring these substances are permanently removed from circulation. Once the Judiciary accumulates a significant quantity of confiscated illicit drugs over time, it organizes a well-coordinated event to dispose of them. This process involves notifying and mobilizing key stakeholders, including the Court Users Committee (CUC), media representatives, and community leaders. The disposal is conducted in a highly transparent manner, often through public burning of the substances (#incineration), ensuring that the entire process is witnessed by the community and documented by the media. This approach underscores accountability and aligns with the country’s broader efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking. As a member of the Lamu CUC, Muslim women Advancement of Rights and Protection @Mwarpkenya can confirm firsthand participation in such an event in Lamu County on Friday 7th February, 2025. The exercise brought together a diverse group of stakeholders, including #lawenforcement agencies, #Legal professionals, civil society organizations (#CSOs), and community leaders.
