Best of luck to a colleagues across Scotland who, like me, will tomorrow attempt to get back into the same trousers that were already a bit tight in December 😬
Mixed emotions today 😢 Sad to leave the wonderful staff and young people of
@LochendHigh
for the last time. It’s been a privilege to be part of such a vibrant community. Looking forward to some rest this weekend before taking up post as Head Teacher at
@LochgellyHS
on Monday 📚
On a day when Scottish teachers marched for a 10% pay rise, it’s increasingly difficult to articulate the challenges of the job to non-teachers. What do you think makes teaching so challenging?
Another brilliant turnout at our breakfast club this morning, with over 300 young people attending. Available daily from 8.30am thanks to
@LHSWeCare
🥣
#equity
Huge thanks to everyone in the
@LochgellyHS
community for the last 5 weeks 📕 Feeling very fortunate to join such a committed staff team, with talents that are second only to the wonderful young people I’ve been getting to know. Happy holidays!
Always good to see
#NoWrongPath
trending. I wanted to be a pilot, saved up from my job to learn, flew solo at 16 before
@TheBBScotland
got me coaching football & teaching drums as part of
@DofE
- both of which helped me discover teaching. Rest is history. Best job in the world.
A very different sort of teaching at the start of the new term for me today, with our first lesson looking at how to feed your new baby sister without a) drowning her and b) stopping to have some of the milk yourself
#paternityleave
Delighted with the new arrivals at
@Lochend_DT
🔧 Already looking forward to getting started with Practical Metalworking next session, adding further to the

available for learners throughout their

Absolutely loving
@LochgellyHS_DET
new wide floor map printer 🤩 A great way of sharing pupil feedback in (almost) real time, and keeping us focussed on our progress in learning and teaching 🙇♂️
Perfect day for the journey to Skye, and delighted to see the progress of our brilliant
@Columba1400
away team at the end of it! Blown away by their Leader’s feedback, who have high hopes for the rest of the programme 💪 The scenery was a bonus too. Our country is stunning 🏴
The only thing worse than the school league tables themselves, are the people defending them and their apparent ‘value’.
An unbelievably out-of-date fascination that the newspapers still seem to have 😭
Already impressed with our next cohort of
@StrathEDU
Student Teachers for taking the time to phone ahead and get some bedtime reading 📚 Looking forward to meeting you all on Monday
#StrathPGDE
Last day before we welcome 5
#StrathPGDE
students to the school for their first placement a week on Monday. Just the finishing touches to add to a programme that will cover mental health, child protection, digital learning and preparing for probation. And lots of teaching too 👨🏫
In the lead up to the end of term, & in the run up to SQA exam results being sent out, we will be sharing some experiences, successes & words of wisdom from former pupils.
We begin with Ashleigh Mackay who left Lochend CHS in 2008👏 Have a read 👇

#Determination
Not long until we welcome our next cohort of student teachers for their first placement 👩🏫
Looking forward to seeing all they will contribute as part of our school community 🙌
#StrathPGDE
So so buzzing that I have found out my placement school and I am now even more excited than I already was 🤩🤩🤩🤩 Not long to go now 💃🏻
#TeamPE
#StrathPGDE
An incredible achievement, testament not only to our ever-amazing young people, but every member of staff that has supported them through their secondary school journey. The world awaits 🌎
I watched my 3-year-old play with some kids he’s never met before today and was reminded that kids have no prejudice, nor judgment, nor barrier to just getting along. It’s adults that teach these things. What an amazing challenge to carry as a profession 👩🏫
#teachingmatters
It’s been a busy week at
@LochgellyHS
📈 So much happening across our school from
@CareerReadyUK
breakfasts and
@MVPScot
inputs to pupil-led winter clothing drives and L6 first aid qualifications ⛑️
Still so much more to come in the next 8 days🎄
After nearly 4 weeks of IDL, the moment of truth came today at
@PinkstonAWWC
🛶 The rafts floated and all returned safely 🙌
✅ design

Well done to all and huge thanks to Mr Nimmo
@TSS_Technicians
for all his help to make the magic happen ⚒️
What a difference a year makes. Last December I was ready for putting the studies on hold ahead of fatherhood. Now I’ve got the bit of paper that says I stuck it out and the wee man’s first Christmas to enjoy 🎄 Huge thanks to
@loumsanders
and
@kmkerrigan
for all their support 📚
Just home from an exceptional week at
@LochEilCentre
with
@OutwardBoundUK
as part of
@abc_OCTF
S3 resilience programme. Amazing to see young people thrive when taken out of their comfort zone. Expeditions, canoes, gorge jumps and wifi being turned off at 10pm all met head on 🥊
When I retire I’m going to write a book of all the mad, far-fetched and ridiculous things that happen daily in a school. Bound to be a best seller, even if no one believes it’s non-fiction! 📚
Looking forward to welcoming our new S1’s tomorrow, joining us from no less than 8 different primary schools across the North East of Glasgow - proving that
@LochendHigh
isn’t just a community school by name!
🟢🔵🔴🟡
Cant wait to meet you all 😊
Great to spend the last day of the summer holidays at
@gsc1
this morning. Looking forward to the school year ahead, and to getting the run around off other people’s children for a change 😂
Our kids in great hands at
@LochendHigh
easterhouse gets lots of bad publicity so when we get good stuff like this we need to shout loud and proud. Well done
@FARE_Scotland
Just home from a final week with the future leaders of
@TheBBScotland
. Clear evidence that those who discredit young people really don’t know what they’re talking about. I’ve learned more from them than I could ever have taught them. Thanks to
@alanBBScotland
for the opportunity.
Tomorrow is my last day in Hermitage Academy, a truly wonderful place to work for the last 7 years. I’ve met some tremendous people and learnt more than I could have imagined. I only aspire to master the craft of teaching as well as some of the colleagues I’m leaving behind.
Fantastic to see so many Design & Technology departments across the country once again showing their value. Further evidence that no school can run without one - but I’m biased 👏
@dunoongs
have started doing monthly

A fantastic day of professional learning on pedagogy, curriculum and behaviour - refreshingly honest and well grounded in research 🧐 Huge thanks to
@Bruce_NextLevel
and his colleagues for organising 📚
Great to have so many teachers and school leaders from schools across Scotland attending our Berwickshire High School Showcase Day today! We are delighted that delegates found the day so useful 😊
Invest in your staff to invest in your students.
A genuine privilege to listen to
@HargreavesBC
this afternoon speaking on culture, people, leading from the middle and more. As always, a day full of reflection and learning thanks to
@UofGHeadship
Proud as punch with his robot Jack Sparrow being on display today at

🛠️ No better way to channel the current pirate obsession into learning 🏴☠️

Love this idea - and a brilliant way to demonstrate just how vital iPads could be in raising attainment for all learners:
Challenge ✅
Progression ✅
Personalisation/Choice ✅
New fast finisher board with QR codes to take them to online games and activities related to each area of our learning 👍🏼 kids love scanning the codes and I will love not being asked what to do once they’ve finished their work!!!

We’re looking for a new Pastoral Care/Guidance teacher to add to our brilliant

For those that might not make the podium tomorrow, please don’t think that all the work you needed to (almost) get there will be lost. It will only make the next one easier to reach. Best of luck to everyone getting results 🤞

Fantastic to visit P7 classes from
@AultmoreParkPri
and
@oakwoodG34
over the last few days (in person!) to talk about the move to
@LochendHigh
🏫
Lots of brilliant questions ahead of our Harry Potter-themed Science event on Friday 🧙♂️ And lots about the canteen too, of course 🤔
Lots of outrage today aimed at the SQA and their Biology exams being nothing like past papers. Just a thought, but if the content is all in the course descriptors then teachers teaching to the exam should shoulder the blame, and not the SQA. Just playing devils advocate! 🤷♂️
Nephew had a great first day at primary school yesterday and when asked if he was excited for tomorrow could only look confused and say, “but I’ve already been” 🤔
Congratulations to our coach of the month! Miss Watson has dedicated her time to an after school club EVERY DAY of the week! We as a department and our pupils are very grateful for the hard work and opportunities you provide for our young people 👏💙💛❤️
Update: today’s trouser issues were completely upstaged by how amazing it was to have some young people back in the building, with all the life they bring with them! Great start 🏆 Onto S1 tomorrow 📚
Best of luck to a colleagues across Scotland who, like me, will tomorrow attempt to get back into the same trousers that were already a bit tight in December 😬
@jwalms93
A frog. A pupil found it in the woods behind the playground, put it in his bag to and told all his pals about it once he was in class. They wanted proof and out came the frog. After a short naming ceremony it was returned outside 🐸
The stage is set for the biggest vote of the day. S2 pupils pitching for £3000 towards their chosen charity as part of
@ypi_scotland
. Looking forward to welcoming lots of new partners to the school
@Beatson_Charity
@BarnardosScot
@CotDeathTrust
and more 🏴
Best of luck to

Pipe Band today
@Piping4Pupils
🥁 Thanks to the
@FifeMusic
and
@lhs_music
staff who support them so willingly, not just on competition days but throughout the year - it’s a huge undertaking 🎶
Looking forward to welcoming a record 75 schools pipe bands and freestyle groups to the 10th Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships on Sunday! Pupils all over Scotland are busy practising and getting ready for the journey to Kilmarnock - wishing you all the very best!
I’d be happily retired if I had £1 for everytime I’ve been asked “when’s the real deadline?” in the last six weeks by pupils about to disappear on exam leave 💰
We are looking for an exceptional Teacher of Maths. A great opportunity to join an excellent department. This is a full-time, permanent post within
@LochgellyHS
@LHSMathsDept
A wonderful afternoon at our Senior Citizen’s Easter Treat. Huge thanks to all of the staff behind the scenes and, of course, the young people who were, rightly, centre stage 🐣
A massive well done to all of our amazing pupils, staff and guests for a very successful Easter Treat this afternoon. Lovely to see our Community coming together 😊
A reminder that our FREE breakfast club begins tomorrow morning and runs from 8am to 8.30am 🍴
The breakfast club will run each weekday morning and all pupils are welcome 🧠 🥘
The crash course we’ve all had in using digitial technology to support learning is, I think, a huge benefit that will come out of the school closures. What are the others? Surely there are some
Great to have the Deputy First Minister visit today. And although I’ve only been there 2 weeks, I can vouch for his comments; brilliant pupils, brilliant staff.
Fascinating visit
@LochendHigh
to meet confident young people. Great to see the work of Mr McArthur and his team in achieving great outcomes for pupils. Pleased to hear from the pupils about the positive impact
@Columba1400

Looking forward to the last of our THIRTEEN student teachers joining us on Monday. Always great to see what we can learn from their expertise and the other schools they’ve been to. This time we welcome students from

I've written a short article about the difference between assessment for learning and formative assessment: . If you read English, there's probably nothing new for you here, but it is available in 22 other languages, so there is that...
A great start to the School football team ⚽️. 16 young people turned up keen and ready to go !
Credit to our
@LochendHigh
pupils for battling through the wind snow and rain with a smile on their faces.
first game news will be coming soon 👀
