There it is. Felt a bit sick hovering over the 'post' button. But thanks so much to all the teams and contributors who have made OPM, PSM, and PLAY possible. And to everyone who read along!
With a heavy heart, we have to let you know that the next issue of PLAY will be the magazine's final one. For current subscribers, the subs team will reach out before long with next steps. More details here:
Job change! As of this week, I'm the Games Editor of GamesRadar+ where I'll be heading up previews and reviews! Thank you to the team for being very welcoming 🙏
It's official, I'm now Editor of
@PLAYgamingmag
! As a firm believer that it's one of the best mags and teams out there, and that we work with some of the best writers, I'm honoured!
Due to a 'change in circumstances' I'm now in a position where I'm looking for work. RTs would be greatly appreciated! More about me on my website, and threaded below! 🧵
We're hiring at
@PLAYgamingmag
! Mag roles are pretty unique, as you get to do a bit of everything. I'd encourage everyone to apply. Writing samples are great, and don't have to be published work. RTs appreciated.
Incredibly glad we could feature Hi-Fi Rush before the Tango news. Just feels incredibly shortsighted right after another wave of glowing praise for the (excellent) PS5 port.
We're hiring for a staff writer! Based in our Bath, UK office, but UK remote is considered (travel for events and some meetings will be required). A pretty great opportunity to write about PlayStation games. Details here:
One thing to shutter a huge part of the games media. Another to just throw the writers who have built that institution to the gutter like this. Hope this can be rectified.
If you travelled back in time 15 years and told me I'd be editor of
@PLAYgamingmag
and also be in issues of
@edgeonline
,
@pcgamer
, and
@SFXmagazine
on shelves at the same time I'd have emitted a shrill and devastating psychic scream that would haunt you until the end of days.
This month marks six years at Future, essentially split between three years on Official PlayStation Magazine and three years as editor of PLAY Magazine! It's hard to believe it's been so long - a decade in the games industry overall.
Surprising nobody,
@heartimecia
was definitely right - 1000xRESIST is an incredible narrative journey! One of several indie must-plays this year. Haven't stopped thinking about it since hitting credits.
This week marked my first full year at
@OPM_UK
! As expected I'm travelling, so I can't do the cool cover spread out just yet, but expect it when I'm back home.
@Theswweet
To be fair, this already had a lot of buzz from people who follow indies before he picked it up. Happy it has more eyes on it though, of course.
Just recently passed the 3 year mark on OPM, covering the build up to and launch of PS5, and becoming Dep Ed. Time flies. Here's all the covers I worked on. What kind of covers will be in the future? Look forward to the next issue to find out!
What a landmark issue! Full of some fantastic words and, if you look closely, even a few from me. As someone who grew up with an Edge subscription, helping with the anniversary issue even in a tiny way is a dream come true 🙏
The 100 greatest games of the past 30 years: our special anniversary edition celebrates the finest interactive accomplishments of Edge’s lifetime. The new issue of Edge is on sale now:
Shouting out
@KoeniginKatze
, without who
@PLAYgamingmag
simply would not be what it is. She's worked with the team for longer than I have, and one of the real secrets of being a good editor is to work with people who can help take so much off your hands.
Due to a 'change in circumstances' I'm now in a position where I'm looking for work. RTs would be greatly appreciated! More about me on my website, and threaded below! 🧵
Gladiator II is on the cover of Total Film’s upcoming issue 356, which hits print and digital newsstands on October 10. It’s with a heavy heart that we announce that this will be the final issue of the print magazine.
We like to think that this final print edition is a showcase
Today marks 2 years since I started on
@OPM_UK
! Don't have all the issues physically due to moving and pandemic, but here's what Year 2 looked like. It's been a weird old time, but some really exciting stuff in there.
Absolutely slurping up chicken and chips, face lathered in garlic mayo, beard unkempt, hunched over the pot like a ghoul, when a side door opens and a whole parade of new starter come through for a tour of the office.

New issue thread! PLAY 13 means we've been called PLAY for a year now. Time flies. Only possible thanks to some terrific freelancers and a great team. If you've not picked up an mag yet, I can't recommend it enough - we're collecting super entertaining reads from amazing writers.
PSVR2 is the star of the show. We break down both the headset and controllers, including why the technology is so impressive and why developers are excited to get involved. Will you be getting one?
As ever, gaming mags could use support! Would love for people to check out what we're doing with the mag (and reach out if you want to see what's inside a full issue).

Assassin's Creed cover! A real packed issue of the mag. Still working on the next one, but it should shake out to be a landmark issue so keep a look out for that one next month.
Goes without saying that if you need anything PLAY related, whether to pitch as a writer or to pitch a game, send it my way! oscar [dot] taylor-kent [at] futurenet [dot] com
Thirsty Suitors is just phenomenal! Full of heart, and incredibly playful, it mixes RPG mechanics, social elements, and skateboarding in just the right amounts. An extremely well judged production, but also just joyful! Must-play!!
The Chinese Room drills into a rich vein of ’70s horror in Still Wakes The Deep. We take an exclusive first look at this terrifying firstperson chiller in Edge 386, on sale now:

My first piece for
@pcgamer
is a review of Nioh 2 which is, as expected, fantastic. Heard of some FPS issues from people with better builds than mine, but whatever my PC was doing ran it super smooth, a really nice port.
That's me just about wrapped for the year on
@PLAYgamingmag
! It's been... a tough one! But I'm really proud of what we've managed to pull off across the core team and incredible roster of freelancers. I hope y'all, readers and writers, get to have a good break!!
It's the time of the month subscriber copies of OPM are going out! When I'm reminded that there are real people who actually read what I write. Scary stuff.
Talking 'bout game mags, have to say the likes of
@pcgamer
,
@edgeonline
,
@RetroGamer_Mag
, and us at
@PLAYgamingmag
are really knocking it out of the park lately. I love reading everything I can. Never been a better time to get stuck in:
Haven is one of eight unique subscriber-only covers of
@OPM_UK
, to celebrate the new look. We are so proud to see Yu & Kay in the front of this huge magazine :)
hard to shake the feeling I've expended an immense amount of energy over the last decade for no reason - games are looking pretty bleak rn. how anyone keeps their energy I've no idea
Putting together a passion project feature for which I have many hours of interviews, and a ton of assets. Doesn't get better than this. All I can say is: look forward to it.

If you were wondering why I was randomly playing every Star Wars game on PlayStation... it wasn't so random! Almost five digits worth of words about the series' gaming history in here.
Star Wars' gaming legacy is a long one! To really appreciate SWO, we pick apart the series' gaming history. Republic Commando! Kyle Katarn! All the Battlefronts!
These monthly preview threads really highlight what a special mag
@PLAYgamingmag
is to put together each month. Great games writers writing about what they love, and not just covering what's expected. A pleasure to enable that with each issue.

Oh my gosh the new
@OPM_UK
- the subs cover is looking gorgeous 😍 Big features by me on Star Wars and Borderlands 3. Plus a massive blowout on what that new PlayStation is all about. Brilliant work by the whole team and freelancers. Look out for it!
feels like a lot of people are having milestones right now - later this year will mark 10 years in the games industry for me (across publishing and media). maybe I'll take some time off as a treat 😴😴😴
If ya missed it, I wrote about LA Noire about a week ago over at Waypoint. Specifically about how it handles problems with authority. Hooray. I like that game.
Been thinking a lot about LA Noire again lately. Very flawed, but so much to love. I wrote about its complicated relationship with gamifying 40s policing a couple of years back (with great edits from
@Danielleri
