Maths Twitter this is NOT a drill Office apps (including quite importantly, PowerPoint) now have a Casio ClassWiz font built in so you can type any key from your calculator straight into your PowerPoints. I’m going to be saving a file with all of these so I can access easily.

@BouchMaths One of my favourite bits of advice is Tom Bennett’s guidance on behaviour management: 1. Be an experienced teacher 2. Don’t move schools 3. Be a member of the senior leadership team Not being any one of those things makes behaviour challenging no matter what you’re doing

I've got a pupil who is beginning to use a laptop to write mathematics in lessons using equation editor and i'm trying to put together a crib sheet for them so they have something to guide them when starting out. Are there obvious functions I have missed? Feedback welcome!

This is the resource I’ve enjoyed working with the most this year, for a lesson on use of a calculator. Turn your calculator upside down and interpret the word with the help of a crossword clue. Maths Club helped me create tricky clues using more buttons on the calculator.

@EndDarkMoney @Miss_Snuffy Ridiculous situation when we need to rely on ongoing charity to feed hungry kids- not really a solution. If this did happen it would likely be successful at Michaela because of how prolific the school is but unsustainable for anyone else.

I’ve been reminded of one my favourite little maths activities: Write down the equations of two circles with different radii and different centres. Expand the brackets and subtract one from the other. The result is the equation of a straight line- what is this line?

One of my Year 10s has got the new Casio calculator— only had a quick look because I had to teach but was really impressed at the two things I saw (the unit circle function and the number line plotting) as well as the general quality of the device. Don’t listen to the haters!

Getting mini white boards out as a matter of habit this year. My Year 11s are loving it, they’ve commented how useful they find it because of it being low stakes before they commit their work to their book (which they see as high stakes!)

Fantastic stat: Gibraltar have vaccinated ~115% of their population. Approx. 15,000 Spanish citizens commute in to Gibraltar each day and many of them have been vaccinated in Gibraltar so count towards their vaccination statistics but not their population

It took me about 40 seconds to put together a card sort activity on @Desmos to create a starter activity to spark a discussion about metric and imperial units. Love the ease of use and that Desmos allows me to take advantage of working remotely rather than feeling hindered by it

@DrBethHallMaths One of the biggest misconceptions that makes it through adulthood, I don’t think many maths teachers are even aware! Here’s one example of how you could share the hierarchy. I only found out about this on PGCE, and the extent to which I protested was embarrassing

@ECR_Maths Calculators are a complete faff. Are you aware of Casio's ClassPad tool? Has emulators for all of their calculator models. I found it helpful today teaching my Year 8 class that have multiple different calculators. Awkward to get used to but useful.

@Miss_Snuffy When I went for my PGCE interview they told me very clearly they wouldn’t tell me how to teach, but the course taught the skills to be a reflective practitioner that can continue to improve for life. I haven’t had to unlearn anything, but certainly continue to use those skills
