Personal review of 2021: I finally realised my workaholic lifestyle was not healthy + made some dramatic changes, including giving up most of my on-the-side business. This gave me lots more time to join a running club, go out and generally have fun. I'm much happier as a result.

A career announcement of sorts: I'm going part time from school teaching to 50% as of Sept, and relinquishing my Subject Leader in Maths position. I've particularly struggled this year with full-time teaching whilst running a charity, but glad I'm staying in the classroom.

We will be attempting to migrate the whole of DrFrostMaths to 'the cloud' by the end of the weekend from its current server - I won't say who with yet. But a super generous donation from an @EveningStandard reader has meant I don't have to worry about server costs for some time.

Really really exciting new feature (but only took me 20 minutes to make!): When students hover their mouse over any picture in a question they're doing, they'll see a whiteboard icon. Clicking the picture then loads it in the side whiteboard allowing them to annotate over it.

My 2018 in summary: Won a teaching award on the BBC, hosted 1st teacher CPD event, bought a piano, new classroom, launched DFM2.0 and started teaching YouTube channel. Thank you to all the teachers that inspire me and to students/schools for making DFM such a success in 2018. 👍.

Thank you for all your support and kind words about DFM this week. Daily hits now close to 3 million and the DFM Whiteboard and Live! game both getting a *lot* of usage. Problems with both of these now seem to be ironed out with some additional features added.

Delighted that DFM survived the returning deluge of students. Despite already over 1 million views today the database CPU usage never went over 53%, and that was despite DOWNGRADING it to something 4 times less powerful. Coding for 14 hrs a day for a straight fortnight paid off!

2020 was in summary: bonkers. A year's worth of DFM development in weeks as lockdown hit, tsunami of media stuff in autumn (BBC News 6 times, Times 3!), major building work since July, even a 9-hr op in Feb. Nicely culminating in winning the Global Teacher Prize Covid Hero Award.

Looking at least at Edexcel's maths GCSE grade distribution, it seems teachers have exercised sound judgement, with just an understandable sprinkle of generosity at the borderlines. Congrats to the students, but also, well done us! 👏.
I should have concluded, of course, that the process has shown, at least for GCSE Maths, that teachers have been able to provide CAGs which have been honest and accurate and that’s a huge testament to everyone’s professionalism. We’ll hear no teacher bashing about this!. 7/7.

So the site now is at least perfect stable and speedy when under 2000 simultaneous users. It reached 3125 however and was over 3000 for much of the school day. The good news however is that we can scale the capacity on the new server, whereas we couldn't on the old. We will fix!.

6 days left until the launch of DFM5! This isn't just an update- the whole site has been completely redesigned, reorganised and rebuilt from scratch, with a new progress system based around mastery. Can't wait for teachers and students to use it. Working on task analysis today.

No biggie, but there's a new 'QLA' button when viewing a task as a teacher, which generates a spreadsheet, with a tab for each student, with the mark they got for each question, and the Exam Skills and Key Skills involved. Actually, that's quite a biggie.
