I hope DC can learn from the mistakes others have made by not listening to entire community as it relates to implementing bike 🚴 lanes around the city. There is a right way to do everything!
In April 2023 podcast, LA Metro Chief Innovation Officer and former LADOT General Manager explained her transportation philosophy. She says planners fall into a trap of relying on technical data and analysis to decide on bus/bike lanes and many communities don’t want them.

I would screw up a deal like this any day. You out of touch on this. You weren’t in SE when he made all those promises. Nor were you at press conference the other day when Dixion sloped up and said they been working on this deal for two years. I was!
The idea that D.C. activists and boosters could either bully a businessman to keeping his business in the District or go about trying to screw up his deal elsewhere sets a dangerous precedent. If it were the other way around, the same people would be screaming holy hell.
