Dale had some of the work done before the green waved. I’m not embarrassed to admit when I saw a mirror full of GM Goodwrench, I waved him by. I didn’t have the opportunity to race against him much, but had tremendous respect for him.
5/15/93 Pole day

. I was in the garage area, stopped at the restroom by AJ’s garage, he’s in there. How’s things going, I asked? Looking deep in thought, he shook his head & said “I really don’t know”. I thought then, it might be near. Not long after, came “the lap”.
8/1/91 - Finally was able to afford my 1st NEW race car. Everything I raced from ‘76 to ‘91 was used, or older. It felt good to have a new Hutcherson-Pagan built ride.

As a kid, I was lucky enough to go to the inaugural CA 500 on 9/6/70 - with a friend & his family. After the 500, we flew overnight (with racers) to St Louis, MO, took a rental to DuQuoin, IL for the Dirt Car race on 9/7/70. Jim McElreath & Al Unser Sr p/u the wins.
