Average racing PR dude. Better husband. Better father. So-so racecar artist. Dad-bod supermodel. Used to run that one account you loved. Opinions are my own.
All of us who choose to work in racing did so willingly. We do it for our own reasons but we all love the sport and want to be involved. But despite what it might look like, it isn't always glamorous, especially at the grassroots level.
Maybe think about it the next time you want to send a mean tweet to someone who's messed up on the air, or made a mistake on the track, or did something silly in pit road. We're all humans, and just like anyone else, we all need a little kindness in our lives.
ARCA has been a huge part of my life for 45 years. My grandparents worked for John and Mildred Marcum. My first ever paying job was selling ARCA yearbooks in 1982. It's truly an honor to step in and fulfill the role that Don held for so long. Thanks for the well wishes everyone!
We're all lucky to do it, every single one of us. But even those who shine brightly can struggle. You never know what's going on behind the smile and sunglasses.
Be kind. Be supportive. Be genuine. To those in all walks of life, especially those who are also in the circus.
There are a lot of long nights and even longer car rides home. Missed family functions. Missed birthdays. Missed milestones. It can be lonely as hell on those long nights going from place to place.
There are a group of 3 grade school kids waiting at their bus stop when I go in to work every morning. I have no idea who they are. They wave to me every time I drive by. I absolutely needed that today. Be nice you guys. You never know who needs a random act of kindness.
Back in the day, drivers who had never raced at Darlington had to do a "rookie test", similar to what's done at Indy. Here's one of the most accomplished drivers of his generation on his rookie test. Note: he was not happy about this, as one would imagine.
Back in the day, everyone thought every dot com had millions to spend or stock options to give in racing. We talked to this one, along with virtually everyone else. Negotiations ended when the guy we were talking to was stabbed.
Turns out you don't have to give a girl a big house (or two), a boat, a plane or even an expensive bracelet to make her happy. All you need to do is make her laugh and feel like she matters. Imagine that.
What a monumental day in history of stock car racing. Was happy to be there for the press conference and unveil. I sat next to Chris Economaki. Felt like I was pretty legit at that point!
Just a reminder -
@ARCA_Racing
has raced on dirt every year since 1983, most years at least twice and some years as many as three times. Two dirt races this year coming up and Springfield and DuQuoin. Be there!
So, accidents happen in all levels of racing from the very top to entry level. ARCA has had, overall, very clean racing for the last three years. We had a pretty sizeable crash today and suddenly ARCA needs to be eliminated. That's short sighted for several reasons.
So this masterpiece is finally done. Looks great! But it's not mine! My son Chase is the artist. Incredible that a 15 year old can do this. I'm blown away. 🏁
He's been on track so the secret is out. Great to have
@frankiemuniz
here
@DAYTONA
for the final day of the
@ARCA_Racing
pre-race practice! Good luck, have fun, and hopefully we'll see you back for the race! 🏁🏁
We believe
@MarcoAndretti
will on his own add value to ARCA, and we believe - we know - he will be a competitive participant. We welcome his entry and we look forward to the addition of a prestigious and respected member of the motorsports world racing with us.
@DaleJr
During the "tire war" if they ran out of the prefered tire, they'd go buy tires from someone who dropped out which led to many interesting clashing color schemes mid-race.
So every announcer has their thing. "You wanted the best you got em four got em four abreast" is
@Gibvoice
's. I get why people would pay homage to that, but we shouldn't use it every time we see a four abreast salute. It's really a WoO specific call.
To anyone saying "Harrison's win was all luck and it might be his last one"...so what? Luck plays a role in EVERY race win, and as Mark Martin would tell you, EVERY win could be your last one. Why not just let him and the team celebrate and enjoy the moment?
I love when people say I don't know social media or they know more than me. I created an account for an inanimate object that has 86,000 followers from scratch. I've had the No. 1 worldwide trending topic four times. But please go on thinking you know more than me.
Part of the reason I love ARCA so much is the sense of community. We're a small circus and everyone looks out for everyone else. James Hylton was a beloved member of that family. A great story teller and great character. Race in peace, James.
And if you want to tell me that no one cares about my family's shitty old race team, you might have a point. 1983 was a long time ago. But unless you have one of these, maybe keep your opinion on that race team to yourself.
Eight years ago today, this hour, I had to make the hardest phone calls I've ever made in my life. Somehow I got thru them but it started the hardest week of my life. Life is easier but those memories are still hard. I miss you mom.
