I hereby announce my retirement from cattle feeding. At the age of 27, after 8 years of running the feedlot, I'm down to 25 head on feed (1,500 head capacity) with no intentions to fill back up currently.
Packers-- If you need me I'll be in Arizona with my fellow crop farmers.

Looks like I got 3+ miles of fence completely gone. This was the first time I could make it to my pasture by Fostoria, IA due to all roads being either flooded or washed away. The damage in the area is impossible to describe.

Crop farming is literally a retirement job. They work 4 weeks in the spring and 4 weeks in the fall. We need to stop acting like any working age person should be a full-time farmer.

No reason to stick to the turkey tradition when I’m alone for thanksgiving. Always found it too dry. Instead I got myself a 16 oz ribeye and went with a reverse seat method: 5 hours in the oven at 400F, then finished it off in my sparkly, freshly cleaned cast iron

I built a 600hd hoop 2 years ago to calve in. It's a pathogen nightmare. Will need 150sqft minimum for pairs. I'm actually still calving on stalks to try and keep the hoop barn fresh for later calvers.

Those istaters tweeting “I’d rather have a drought than a flood” havnt lived through a multi year drought. Yes floods suck, but EVERYTHING dies in a drought. Not just the low lying ground. Cattle, crops, people. It’s way worse.

I'm only a cattle producer, but how do you conscientiously commit mass euthanasia of animals for no reason? Under no economic circumstances would I consider euthanizing a healthy calf. Is this the cost of a hyper efficient and integrated system?
