@iwelsh The U.S. began to lose state capacity as soon as compensation in the finance sector began to outstrip everything else. This is late-stage degeneracy at worst.

@ChrisJBakke I would like to hear about the economic impact on the costs of goods transport. How much easier is it for a shop to get a delivery? What is the “net” effect on UPS, FedEx or, say, commercial delivery of groceries? What is the effect on taxi fare?

I am amazed at how few people seem to grasp the basic economics here. It is the impact on delivery services that matter most. A dense urban area has to take a vast quantity of goods delivery and not an insignificant quantity of outbound transport and waste removal. If the net cost of supply deliveries declines with the congestion charge, there could be huge economic benefits to businesses and residents.

What disturbs me is how so many minimize the significance of Burisma in retrospect. Biden’s corruption helped to involve the U.S. in a proxy war with a nuclear power. Also a corrupt or indulgent father (choose your narrative poison) helped a son to bathe in corruption destroying his son’s life, but that is a personal tragedy — again a horror not much acknowledged.

@MikeBenzCyber @Liz_Wheeler murder would be a state crime — a federal pardon doesn’t cover it, does it?

@elonmusk Is this about trying to destroy regulatory barriers to debanking and predatory crypto startups? (Of course it is.)

@davidsirota Wasn’t Joe Rogan the Democratic Party Joe Rogan until liberals decided they couldn’t stand him for the reasons you cite?

@bradenwellman Biden rather obviously suffers from advanced Parkinson’s and Democrats pretended it did not matter and then, when no longer was tenable, that a drunk was a good substitute. I did not vote for either, but I also did not pretend about either.

@iwelsh I remember the moment Noah Smith went to the dark side, I think. He did a blogpost ridiculing Robert Lucas as the godfather of bad macroeconomics. Brad Delong reposted it approvingly, but his PhD advisor made him take it down. He never recovered from the self-betrayal.

@dragonboyia A lot of these terms are in use in both countries, sometimes for contrasting connotations, sometimes to fill the broader linguistic jigsaw differently. Americans would say, “curtains” and “wardrobe”.

@bradenwellman Old joke: “the secret to success” is sincerity. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made. Americans under the current regime are free to believe almost anything, but allowed to know next to nothing. Without objective facts all partisans can do is fake sincere and pure intent.

@mtaibbi Be the information you seek? Events will be buried in propaganda before I go to bed and I go to bed early.
