I'm sharing my story in a difficult time for Palestinians and Lebanon, where we found refuge after being exiled from Haifa. I want to honor those who suffered the most and never got to live out their dreams—my grandparents, Jido Ali and Taita Khadejeh. I hope they’re proud (1/3)
The first episode of @BakerLabPodcast is live. Meet Mohamad Abedi, who went from being a Palestinian refugee to a postdoctoral researcher. His journey proves that science can be a creative and transformative process. Apple: Spotify:

@jacob_hanna Thank you for sharing this story Yaqub. I often wonder if, when I make it back to Haifa, I will find the home we were exiled from in 1948. But at least now I know that, regardless, there is a beautiful home in Yaffa that I could visit.

@dudin_o Thanks for listening Omaya. It's comforting and important to realize that we are not alone in these experiences. Our stories are powerful and hopefully they can help pave the way for a better future.

@ZiboChen Congrats Zibo! It is such a powerful and elegant merge between synbio and protein design. I'm excited to see how this grows in your group!

@ZiboChen @Caltech @piraner @UCSF @UWproteindesign @majo__duran @AdamChazin Thanks Zibo! We investigated the mechanism in Figure 2 and the results suggest that SNIPR activation by soluble proteins requires ligand induced endocytosis which leads to TF cleavage at low PH.

Thank you to everyone involved in this work! especially @KoleRoybal and David Baker for supporting us and this project! This is an exciting demonstration of what is possible when we combine cell therapies @UCSF @KoleRoybal with de novo protein design capabilities @UWproteindesign

From CAR-T cells to Bubble-T cells. The things we can do with Synbio are just mind-blowing! This will have huge implications in understanding what happens to cell therapies once deployed. We live in a crazy time where fiction and reality are indistinguishable.
From CAR-T cells to bubble-T cells🧋We took gas vesicle proteins from floating cyanobacteria and expressed them in T cells to track their location as they home to tumors. This tool will help us understand the dynamics of cell-based therapies deep inside the body.

One of my dearest friends shares her story on @BakerLabPodcast. @SusanaVazTor emphasizes kindness as a trait of great scientists. I've had the honor to spend Christmas with Susana's family, and can confirm that the kindness and love her family showed me will stay with me forever
NEW EPISODE 🎧 Susana Vazquez Torres crossed continents to become a scientist. In our lab, she's used AI to create new antitoxins for snakebites. Apple: Spotify:
