Y4/5 teacher 🤩 History and Geog lead in a little primary school in Somerset👩🏼🏫 NEW-shadow maths lead 🧮 sharing the highs AND lows of my life in school 🥰
I’m not kidding when I say one of our y2’s in the key worker bubble looked at his ham sandwich picnic today, turned to his brother, and said ... “ lovely bit of squirrel “ 😂

My boyfriends mum knew I wanted a teepee for my reading corner at my new school for my ‘year 3 owls’ class... couldn’t find anything I liked/could afford online so she MADE me this, complete with cushions😍😍😍😍

On a school trip today,our ‘leader’ asked chn to name volcanoes. One child, quiet and polite, said Santa Maria.She was questioned ‘Santa Maria?That doesn’t sound right.Don’t you mean Santorini in Greece?’This child went proudly- no?It’s in Guatemala.Shall I show you on the map?👊🏻
Promised the children if they worked well, I would tweet the actors/actresses in these films to see if we are lucky enough to get a response! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 worth a shot!😅

Today is the day to do my work … that I’ve put off for a ridiculous amount of time these holidays… so naturally I’m doing a workout, cleaning the fridge, reorganising the Tupperware n deep cleaning the shower…
My headteacher let me go at 3:15 today and covered my key worker bubble (I’m meant to be until 4) so I could go and get an ice cream with my teacher pal - well-being matters 🥰

How can I attempt to eat healthy if there are 72 donuts in the staff room? Don’t be idiots and say ‘don’t eat them’ cos we all know that won’t happen 🙄😂
Not one to have extremely strong views about how people do things, although I do think it looks way better if you cut out the middle of your lettering instead of leaving the white paper 😅
Graffiti spelling walls went down well this week for words I am repeatedly picking up with children! They’ve asked to use them as bookmarks as reminders ✅

I LOVE “Be The Teacher” lessons. Children engage really well with wanting to mark and have the chance to criticise the teacher. Even more so when it’s the teacher’s ‘stupid brother’. Using this at the end of my first week teaching place value to assess reasoning ability. ➕➖✖️
Class of Mum and Dad is so good! It’s so important for parents to know what their children go through, and appreciate the role of the teacher more 🤷🏼♀️ 👩🏼🏫
Day three:
Miss Juden was your ring £20?
Me: a little bit more than £20.
Child: WOW that’s so cool how it was a lot of money but only looks like £20.
🤨🤔🤨🤔😂😂😂😂
PPA at home this morning means up and at it before I’d be at school (albeit in my pj’s) accompanied by a hot tea, and hash browns. Think I’m winning this morning 🤩
A lot of feedback from parents I’ve called this week is that children are reluctant to complete writing tasks, does anyone have any ideas what I could suggest to keep them writing? I’ve suggested book reviews... 🤔🤷🏼♀️

I had a work experience student in on Friday, who was not interested in the slightest to teach… I took the opportunity to say, 'perhaps you could take some of the displays down ready for the new year'… MY CLASSROOM IS BARE 😬😬😬😬😂 (Apart from our highlights reel wall!)
Starting the next year teaching about the books of
@OnjaliRauf
, in particular The Boy At The Back Of The Class has NEVER felt so important. Currently trying to think of bits to share with the children from Afghanistan. Context and links to events like this being REAL are crucial.
The geekiness increases🥴... the key worker children spoke about their love of Minecraft (not a clue what it is🤯), so I’ve made a Minecraft themed display for spelling and I’ll add to it with popular spelling mistakes on labels... ALWAYS about relating to interests!

A legitimate confession from a child in class today when queried over a lesson taught by a supply teacher.
“ Yes, I did get in the bin… but I did NOT squash the peas” 😳
Only in primary 😳
@_MissSutton
I would think about this before you go. I would personally withdraw. The scope for the lesson is far too broad, the assembly is a HUGE challenge for an NQT in front of new children and I think (as an NQT) you learn how to do book scrutiny IN your position, not prior to the job.
Yesterday we were talking about school council applications etc and we were discussing our rewards at school. One little girl asked me ‘what reward do teachers get?’- I said ‘nothing, we get you guys!’ And then today, she came with a card and chocolate bar 🥰🥰🥰

It was about 11:46am today when I realised that having an online observation at 9am on Monday Morning dressed as an Egyptian... is the new normal 😅😂
#edutwitter
Today, I didn’t wear jeans/trackies. I’ve had the following comments from children...
“ you’re like a pastel zebra”
“My living room is painted those colours”
.....
My personal favourite:
“Miss Juden... do you KNOW you are wearing a DRESS???” 😂
One of my children brought me a four leaf clover 🍀 from home today on potentially what was going to be the most challenging day of my whole teaching career to date. The littlest things can make the largest difference 🥰 (and my day ended up fab) ⭐️
Up at 8 to start working 👩🏼🏫 ............... 2 episodes of The Secret Teacher later and still in my dressing gown with my laptop off?? watching stuff about schools counts as CPD ye??😅
Can’t recommend these feedback pads enough, reordered after trialling in September! So helpful to feedback to my TA for follow up support as well as accurately carry out assessment! Shared with my headteacher too when covering one of her classes- she loved them too!
@TPositiveTC
Would never have needed this last year,but introducing this to my school to try and boost morale. Simple, sugary and hopefully going to help someone through week 8 of term. Impending ofsted, short deadlines and regular staff illness (bugs etc) has a big impact on day-to-day life.
‘Miss Juden can I get a drink of water?’
‘ Yep...’
5 minutes passed and said child is still stood by the sink.
‘Are you okay?’
‘ Yep. But there’s a plant in the sink and I don’t know if I’m allergic to leaves’ 😂
🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
Sometimes an unpopular choice by some teachers... but goes down well with my class 🤩 ... backed and ready for another year, this time with a twist for the recommendations to link to learning more 📚
Honestly HOWLING with laughter at the work the children have done today 😂😂😂😂 can not take ANY credit for this idea ... but it went down an absolute treat 😂 I’ve laughed so much I’m sure I have abs 😂

Why you stressed Miss Juden? Ohhhh... I’m not sure... maybe that THIS is happening in lessons that I end up being accountable for as Hist/Geog co-ordinator????😨
Today we have an INSET day because it SHOULD be Glastonbury… in the two years I’ve lived down in Somerset, Glastonbury has been cancelled twice!😳😂 maybe next year …
If you gave an instruction of ‘cut the potatoes in half’ which would you expect? Left or right?? Won’t let me do a poll as using pictures! 😂 help me out

Do any schools have an ‘eco- club’ , ‘eco warriors’ or ‘eco committee’ at their school?I’m starting one for y3/4 as my first small toe-dip into leading an ‘area’ but looking for some good ideas to start with. We are wanting to make a more conscious effort towards environmentalism
@OnjaliRauf
we’ve just finished The Great Food Bank Heist! Look at the amazing page in our reading scrapbook one of my fantastic Year 5’s did at home 🤩
Lovely idea. Would’ve definitely made me feel more at ease last year. Might keep this up my sleeve for if I become a student mentor (in many years to come!)
Back today for our inset week (earliest I’ve ever had one!). Prepared these for those embarking on their NQT year with us. They seemed chuffed with them! Thanks
