After having requests for this resource, I felt inspired to write my first blog post on teaching effective strategies to decode exam questions. The blog post is also the home for this document, should you wish to download and have a copy.
Next term Iโm doing an after school medical science club and Iโm so excited!!! Spending today planing on what topics Iโm going to cover ๐ฅผ ๐ค ๐งซ
I typed & printed this in 2016. I was in a toxic relationship, a low paid job that no relation to my degree & I was totally unhappy ๐. I remember a friend helping me write this and me thinking how unrealistic it was. A little behind schedule but almost there ๐๐ป

So Iโve made a start ๐ค Iโm trying to be selective which words I include. Iโm concerned my biology specialism may have made this a little bias ๐ Iโm designing this for a foundation GCSE class. Advice / Ideas always welcome ๐
I've created a science command sheet for math skills. Inspired by
@AlexJQuigley
@researchEDBrum
session, I've named it an 'if...then...' You can download it & explore my ideas on other strategies for integrating math skills into your curriculum on my blog.
Iโve done practically no school work over the last six weeks (other then optional CPD). Iโm normally a workaholic (even during holidays). I feel so refreshed and ready for the best teaching year of my career to date. ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
flight attendant: is there a doctor on this flightl?
dad:*nudging me* that should've been you
me: not now dad
dad: not asking for a biology teacher to help, are they?
me: dad, there's a medical emergency happening right now
dad:go and see if doing an eye dissection will help
Sometimes I really wish I could spend a year in a primary school teaching science across all year groups. While their class teacher gets PPA time. I know they do this for languages/PE is it a thing for science too? Probably not ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
Iโve just had to mute my first fellow teacher ๐๐ฉ๐ปโ๐ซ all she did was moan (about everything) nobody has the time for so much negativity

Updated my twitter bio, to include some exciting information. I havenโt mentioned it on here before but I got two promotions last year ๐๐ป I am now second in department for Science and the Parent Partnership Lead ๐๐๐ป๐ฉ๐ผโ๐ฌ

Gone one step further with my year 11 good luck post cards this year combining the exam strategies Iโve been teaching them and memes! Iโm not a regular teacher Iโm a cool teacher (said in the style of the mean girls quote)๐ค Now time to go write all 48 of them โ๏ธ
I spent so long making this as a stretch and challenge activity during my teacher training. The worse thing is I thought it was a really good activity ๐ฌ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ donโt even get me started on the font ๐คฃ

So I went my whole TT and NQT year without crying and on Tuesday I cried like a baby ๐ฌ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ So thankful I have a supportive HOD & SLT team and everything has been resolved!

Student: Why did I get an F on the exam?
Teacher: Because you answered all the questions wrong
Student: But I was being sarcastic, those were sarcastic answers
Sometimes as a middle leader you donโt get seen / receive feedback as often! Love how this has changed since the introduction of Steplab for drop-ins also got a shout-out myself this week! ๐
Really enjoyed
@AlexJQuigley
insights at
@researchEDBrum
on why learning fails. Key takeaway: boosting student motivation through skill-building for different exam questions using a 'if...then...' approach. Wishing there was a 'if...then...' science summary... oh wait, there is๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
I've created this documents for my year 11's who will be sitting the AQA combined foundation papers this May/June.
The aim of the document is to clearly set out which units they will be assessed on for each exam & what the main themes in those units are.
Next years timetable has been released ๐๐ป
I have two year 7 classes! I am so happy I didnโt have any this year and I really did miss it ๐๐๐

My action research project looking at how retrieval practice can help to engage & increase progress of disadvantaged students has been featured in the current issue of connected ๐๐ป Massive thank you to
@KateJones_teach
for helping with my initial research
I read a blog recently about how you learn more new words studying gcse science then you do learning a MFL at gcse but Iโve lost the link does anyone have the link/ know who posted it, pretty please?

Last physics exam today for my year 11โs. Is it normal to feel slightly emotional? ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ They are my first year 11 group to sit GCSES and the last year group who would have seen me as a trainee teacher ๐ฉ๐ผโ๐ซ
Fantastic talk by
@MrWaitScience
on the importance of math skills in science at
#ttsci
loved the fact their was audible disarray across the hall when formulas triangles were mentioned ๐๐๐
Getting emotional with all the emails off my year 10 students begging for me to teach them this week when they come in for their science lessons ๐ฅบ wish I could teach them all but social distancing rules wonโt allow it for now.
@RogersHistory
Just for the recored Iโd be flattered if someone called me beautiful ๐ just because some women shout louder then others doesnโt mean they speak for us all!
2nd week of medical club this week. Students loved learning all about Phineas Gage, looking at the models and making their own wearable model brains ๐ง As the students were leaving one asked if the club could run twice a week ๐ฅฒ

Having a parent thank you for helping to build her daughters confidence, ability and love of science. Best ending to a parents evening ever! ๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
@mrbakerphysics
@WRBdB
Thanks now I actually think about it there is no need for them to be moving around the classroom ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ plus will be easier if theyโre all doing the same task at the same time.
Ecstatic I managed to win a copy of
@Josh_CPD
โresponsive coachingโ book for my schools CPD library, for great networking at my in person certificate in instructional coaching day with
@Steplab_co
. Shoutout to
@MrsAujla
who first highlighted the importance of networking to me๐๐๐ป
Lesson on biomass with year 13 tomorrow. Going to tell them the time I worked at the Cannock Biffa site, collecting biogas from landfill and lasted 6 hours before I quit ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ๐คฆ๐ผโโ๏ธ
