Mimestream is a privacy-focused native Gmail client for macOS. Features include categorized inboxes, support for labels, multiple accounts, system notifications, swipe actions, and more!
v0.27.0 has been released with Google Contacts integration:
🙋♂️ See Google profile photos for people you've previously emailed
📨 Autocomplete from your entire server-side sent history
🏣 Autocomplete from Google Contacts and the Workspace Directory
This morning, Mimestream began to crash for many users. The Gmail API began returning unexpected data, and we've released 0.41.5 as an update in response.
If the app crashes before you can use the in-app updater, you can manually download+install from:
v0.30.0 has been released with:
💻 Compatibility updates for macOS Monterey
🧑💻 Code formatting options
🏢 Toggle between Reply and Reply All (via menu)
🌄 Inline image selection and Quick Look
📇 Per-account, removable address suggestions synced with Google
🐛 Bug fixes
Ever accidentally sent a message too soon? 😬
v0.25.0 adds "Undo Send" – allowing you to cancel sending of a message by pressing ⌘Z, or clicking the Cancel button in the status tray. The default grace period is 5 seconds, configurable in Preferences!
Mimestream 0.17.0 has been released with:
- Text/background color pickers in the format bar
- Continuity camera support (insert photo, sketch, or scanned document from an iPhone/iPad)👇
v0.23.0 has been released, with enhancements such as:
🔎Search field tokens with improved suggestions
🌄Inline image resizing with a message size preview
ℹ️View account and size in the message list
🇨🇿Czech localization (thanks Vladimír and Jakub!)
New in v0.19.0:
– Attachments in the message list (Big Sur only)
– Preference to customize the message list row style
– Italian localization (thanks, Marco!)
Mimestream's roadmap is now public at – take a look to see what's planned and under consideration!
You can also use the roadmap to submit new ideas, or vote on pre-existing ones. Your feedback will help shape the future of Mimestream! 😃
Mimestream 1.1 has been released and we’re thrilled to announce that Mimestream is now compatible with Google's Advanced Protection Program! For more information, read our blog post at
v0.20.0 has been released, adding:
🔎 Suggestions to the search field
🌎 A Spanish localization (Thanks, Sergio!)
🌎 A Dutch localization (Thanks, Guido!)
and various other improvements!
Mimestream differs from other email clients because it uses the Gmail API to integrate with Gmail’s advanced triage features:
📥 Categorized Inbox (Social, Promotions, etc)
🏷️ Color-coded Labels
🔀 Server-side Filters
📆 1-click Calendar Responses
🔍 Powerful Gmail search
0.22.0 has been released with bug fixes and minor enhancements, including:
- Configure the delay when marking messages read
- Paste a URL over selected text to convert it into a link
- Insert a remote image from a URL
Even though the Gmail API doesn't support Snooze yet*, who would be interested in having a "Labs" snooze feature?
The "Labs" snooze would hide the message from your Inbox within Mimestream, but the message would remain in your Inbox on Gmail (and other apps).
v0.14.0 also brings a "Send Again" feature, which allows you to easily create a new draft based on an existing message. Handy for re-using frequently-sent emails!
💤 Message Snoozing
Tons of requests for this one. We've held off because the Gmail API doesn't support syncing snooze state, but today we're introducing a "Labs" version of this feature that can allow you to perform client-side snoozing.
v0.28.1 has been released, with bug fixes and the following enhancements:
✍️ Configure a reply-only signature
📝 Override the Gmail new messages signature
🇷🇺 Russian localization (thanks Leonid, Mike, Juris, and Светлана!)
End the pain of switching between accounts in your browser, and bring all of your Gmail accounts together in one place!
🙋 Profiles to separate work and personal accounts
📥 Unified Inbox for related accounts
🕘 Working hours for profiles
🌙 Focus Filters to tune out distractions
⚡️ Feature Spotlight ⚡️
Mimestream automatically blocks tracking pixels from 60+ different tracking services (and has since v0.6.6).
If you'd like the strongest degree of privacy, you can always disable all remote image loading in the app's preferences.
You should be able to read your email without other people knowing, so Mimestream v0.6.6 blocks trackers from more than 50 of the most common email tracking services, with more to come. Look for the shield icon to know that a tracker was blocked.
Just released 0.12.0 with the ability to create new labels from the Labels and Move-To popovers, so you can organize your email while keeping your hands on the keyboard! 👐⌨️
🔗 Link Status Bar
Before clicking a link, it’s helpful to know exactly where you’re going. Previously, Mimestream had a tooltip UI for links, but now there's a streamlined status bar at the bottom of the conversation view.
📣 At Mentions
When replying to a thread, sometimes you need to quickly add another person. With the new @/+ mention syntax, you do this with a natural keyboard-based workflow. Just type “
@First
” (or “+First”) into the editor to get an autocompletion menu.
0.29.0 has been released with bug fixes and polish improvements, such as:
🛠 An "Open With" option for links and attachments
✍️ A default composing font preference
🌏 Simplified Chinese localization (thanks, Eryhou!)
📖 Recipient lists initially collapsed to 2 lines
❌ Disable Accounts
Maybe you’re on vacation and you want to disconnect from work email. Or maybe you just have some junk accounts you don’t want to use every day.
Whatever the reason, you can now temporarily disable an account by unchecking the “Enable account” checkbox.
🗓 Calendar Banner Invitee Status
To help you make more informed decisions when reviewing event invitations, the calendar banner has been updated to show the acceptance status besides each invitee, so you can see the current attendance.
🚀 Other new features:
• Preference to disable automatic From address selection
• Preference to disable selected-text quoting
• Formatting bar in Signature preferences
• Ability to disconnect specific Google services
• Add an address to Apple Contacts from the token menu
You should be able to read your email without other people knowing, so Mimestream v0.6.6 blocks trackers from more than 50 of the most common email tracking services, with more to come. Look for the shield icon to know that a tracker was blocked.

iOS is our
#1
user-submitted request. Building that will be a top priority after polishing up and launching the 1.0 of the Mac version later this year! 🙂
The updates also introduce a variety of quality-of-life improvements:
- Larger Text Sizes
- Support for Optional Invitees
- Better handling of quoted text
- Normalized subject prefixes
- Improved "Remove Formatting"
- Redesigned Profile unread counts
- Automatic license lookup
@seanrpittman
Thank you! We don't have any updates on iOS right now, as we're focusing on polishing up macOS towards a 1.0. But iOS is going to be a huge priority soon :)
@joebez
Pretty soon! We’re wrapping up some loose ends before declaring 1.0. Looking forward to your support at that time, so we can continue development for years to come! 🙂
@photojoseph
Not in the API 😭 However, we are working on an opt-in, experimental client-side snooze feature that we plan to eventually release as a stop-gap.
Starting this morning, many users have reported a crash on launch. 0.34.2 has been released with a fix. If you're unable to launch the app to update, please download it manually here:
@BDoma
Hi there! Unfortunately, we don't have a "Block" feature at this time – the Gmail API doesn't support this. However, we are looking into allowing users to create server-side Filters to effectively block senders, so we will add your +1 to this feature to help us prioritize! Thanks
@erikheh
This should happen by default. Can you check to see if Mimestream has access to show notifications?
- Open System Settings
- Click Notifications
- Select Mimestream in the list
- Ensure that “Allow Notifications” is on, and ensure that “Badge app icon” is on.

At this time, Mimestream is exclusively focused on Google accounts. In the future, we are planning to support more services. Please see for more information and to register for an email when this support is launched.

We're inviting a limited number of users to have early access to 1.0 before our launch. Email earlyaccess

@usfisml
So glad to hear that you’re enjoying the app so far!
We have begun some work on an iOS version, although it is going to be a while until we have a usable beta.
We plan to launch 1.0 soon, and supporting us at that time is the best way to help the iOS version come to life! :)
@joakimjansson
We sure do! Just open the app's Settings/Preferences, and on the General tab, change the Keyboard Shortcuts setting from "Default" to "Gmail".
@anteamens
Dark mode is controlled by the system preference, but there is also a “Use dark backgrounds for messages” option in the app’s preferences if you wish to read text with a white background. Hope that helps!
@MindfulTestDev
Hi Pablo, Mimestream is still in beta & active initial development, so there are very frequent updates going out. We’ll take another look at this experience though. Thanks for the feedback! 🙏
@mgonto
Hey there! We don't have a timeline for it, but AI integration is something we've definitely been thinking about and experimenting with! Thanks for the suggestion :)

@viccastillejos
@Mailplane
@bzgoldman
- Basic S/M/L image resizing support will be coming relatively soon.
- Would love to have schedule send, but there's no Gmail API support, so an opt-in service is necessary – thus, post-1.0.
– LanguageTool support would also be great, but also a post-1.0 thing.
Thanks!
@binarycereals
Hey André! Thanks so much for the heads up, will look into it! Hope you enjoy using the app 😃 and please forward along any feedback you have!
@developerjonny
@nobtaka
Yes, Mimestream supports at-mentions.
Gmail's API does not properly expose the Gmail-server-side templates (actually, it exposes them as plain-old Drafts, causing great confusion). Therefore, Mimestream has its own client-side Templates feature. They can be inserted with ⌘/
@JustinD
Hey Justin! We've begun development on iOS, but still have a lot left to do. It's still too early to share an ETA, but know that it's a big priority for us!
