Great opening night in the NEPSAC on our home floor. Thanks to all of the coaches that came out + all of the support from our spectators who make us the hardest prep school gym to play in. 8-0.

It was always only ever about the kids. There was nothing you could do for Yags besides ending up where you belonged. He had to offer the only thing any of us could ever ask for—unconditional honesty. Thank you so much for pushing the game forward.

Always liked the slow -> fast for the wider-framed guys for the heightened chance it gives them to fully cut the primary earlier on. Think it encompasses advantage creation as a whole whereas settling up sometimes limits to self-creation.

Collier uses pace to set up his physicality in a unique way. Usually bulkier creators (Luka, Brunson, etc) leverage their strength by playing fast to slow & Collier wants to play slow to fast so he can brush aside smaller POAs when he gets partial advantage w/ his explosion.

I learned in the most objective way transitioning from international development to prep hoops that raw production was massively undervalued in the landscape of assigning value. In the best instances—impact & ceiling intersect—but they certainly don’t have to (Cont.)
Yep people overvalue aesthetics and undervalue production Also people weigh skills a player has by how cool the skill looks

u can do absolutely anything u please w/out any exclusions as long as u maintain the legal ability to take another dribble. Ignore everything that happens no matter what it seems like optically until hand placement takes away drib options. See this stuff a lot.

Gapare has the hips, coordination, frame, burst, + anticipation to rlly be diversely impactful on ~b o t h~ ends of the floor. Production may come to fruition on one side of the ball before the other—but loaded with backend potential on the offensive side just the same

Very impressed with New Zealand sophomore Tafara Gapare's defence in Georgia Tech's opener against GA Southern. At 6'9, Gapare effectively stuck with ball-handlers on the perimeter, whilst blocking shots at the rim and on close-outs.

Large issue with portal/NIL climate is miseval. 1 year statistical sample size means close to nothing in a vacuum—a lot of dudes r moderate usage rotational connectors and theres a real reason. Many guys climbing r on backend of their traj. That jump/bump is far from guaranteed

I think the overarching % is less telling than the relationship of volume to diversity of attempts. Anyone ~40+% on standstill C&S gives productive backside gravity—but elite means venturing into the wide wide wide umbrella of movement 3s.

Landing on 2 aftr penetration is simply a safety net—a buffer period for processing. Concurrently—dont mistake this for utopian advantage—which is first-step and live dribble creation. Good defense is out of gaps the second a ballhandler picks up on 2—nullifying any chance @ tilt

Sorry 2 quote same acc on back2back days—but pls recognize the staggered base & patterned landing of feet on level change. Big mistake in development is a split stance in drop with both feet touching down simultaneously—damages ability to load& shift weight laterally. Good stuff.

Important in grassroots development to recognize there is a ++ misconception on what movements r appropriate or overwhelming to teach @ youth levels. Implementing directional/pace/level changes as early as possible is the only way to maximize neuromuscular growth.

DONT HOLD THE YOUTH BACK 🏀 Are these “advanced” movements or can these be considered fundamental? 1. Turn dribbles / retreats 2. Shuffle steps 3. Hip rotation 4. Pocket pull 5. Drop 6. Cross drag 7. Foot switch 8. Speed stop pull-up That’s a lot of skill building in 1 rep 👀

Marginal matchup disadvantages r going to be lived w in an effort to minimize rotations. Isolating exchange actions as a 2v2 scenario is often going to b a better bet than dealing w creation against major floor tilts. (Cont.)

“Switching” defense has been made popular. It works with proper personnel or late in clock. However switching to switch is always exploited by a team that is connected and prepared because of practice and experience. ISO ball vs switch ain’t the answer

It is evident in instances even all the way up to HM+ talent that some ceilings of fluidity are unmovable beyond a certain age/point. What you do from 8-13 carries massive weight in the landscape of long term development.

Think outside-the-box thinking yields interest. Think it can be successful against creation-limited bigs in instances. Also think offense needs to ask the simple question: how can we get this to the point where it pivots into a hedge consistently? @MBoen5

One of the most unique pick and roll coverages comes from Stephen F. Austin who aggressively denies screeners from making contact, allowing the ball handler’s defender to guard straight up. It also puts the screen defender in perfect position to jump the ball or hard hedge.

layered offensive movements ≠ layered defensive reactions. Think ab creating a confusing intersection tht requires overlapping processing decisions. want people defensively in a situation to concurrently agree on 2 responses. 2ppl/1 read is less productive than 3ppl/2reads

@abovethebreak3 !!-Think people dont realize the real leverage u can scheme pulling space with minimal movement. Much more digestible for a team to learn than layered actions and continuities. Can do 200 things. Tilts the floor in seconds. Hate the climate of floppy/doubles/pins/loops for 30 sec

@abovethebreak3 like it—esp. bc Ive been exploring the idea of ghosters / horizontal slips planting into a quick comeback : ie the screener in a zoom exiting early and then receiving a comeback pin from the handoff guy. Or in this case a slip/ghost to corner and veer from 2nd drag guy

Still— iso ball is not the way to maximize penalizing a switch—plenty to do in the realm of releasing out of exchanges early—really difficult for 2v2 defense to concurrently handle an early exit—and even w no direct benefit (slip ->entry->shot->basket)—forcing a high plug (cont.)
