I love the criticism of Tiger Woods getting a U.S. Open exemption. If you don’t want to see Tiger Woods play in the U.S. Open, you either dislike golf or you just dislike good things. Fuck off with that, you can have Talor Gooch.

This sucks on so many levels (in priority order)
1) it takes the focus off the actual tragedy that happened
2) Scottie is a new father and doesn't need to deal with this clearly overblown situation...the felony charge is just silly
3) very very very minor in all this is the

: Charges laid against Scottie Scheffler are not being dropped, according to his lawyer, Steven Romines: "Whoever reported [the charges] were going to be dismissed was not accurate." Earlier today his arraignment was delayed until June.
Paul McGinley on Live From is downplaying Bryson's Bunker shot and putt because he "had a shot to play with." He says this will be remembered as the US Open Rory lost, not Bryson winning.
McGinley is almost as bad as Brandel.
@GolfChannel
needs to do better.
I've rarely seen

as much in agreement as it is about Patrick Cantlay's pace of play. Golf fans are ready for slow play penalties to be given.
@PGATOUR
@USGA
@RandA
- it's your move. It's not fair that those playing with and behind slow players have to see their games
I will play golf with anybody. I don't care if you take mulligans or gimmes or roll the ball to a good lie. You do you and we can play together as long as you are:
1) fun to be around
2) kind
3) don't take forever to play
One of my favorite rounds in recent memory was in Sioux
Special moment tonight. My son Nicholas, who has high functioning autism, tried playing golf for the first time. My wife played too. We only did 4 holes and everyone had a blast. My wife even said she'd like to go again!
My 17 year old son has autism. He is a great kid and is wonderful about getting himself ready for the day and catching the bus while I work from home. He never says good-bye to me when he leaves. He just doesn't think about it.
This morning, he said good-bye to me. ☺️
While everyone else is talking about The Open, The Old Course, and LIV Golf, I just wanted to stop by and say one thing...
Slow play is the bane of golf. You're not gonna make that 60 footer if you read it from both sides, back off 3 times, and then hit it. Miss faster!
Bandon never gets any negative press, from what I can tell.
I can tell you if I waited on the phone for 8 hours to book a trip, paid $3k-$5k for golf/lodging, paid whatever it is for travel to get to Bandon, and I got these greens, I'd be LIVID.
I don't need perfect
So you're a mid-single digit handicapper...you're better than 90% of the golfers in the world.
You think... "That's pretty darn good, I should play some tournaments."
Here's a 🧵on what you're in for:
Akshay Bhatia took questions from the media after missing a short putt to lose a golf tournament, rather than storming off like a child.
Akshay at 22 is more mature than 35 year old Rory McIlroy.
Today I moved up 1 set of tees. Interesting results:
-I didn't go super low
-I did have more birdie looks
-I did have shorter clubs into most greens
-I managed to use every club in my bag
-Arguably, I had a little more fun because I could go for a couple par 5s in 2
Unpopular take: The Open Championship was the least interesting men's major this year. Hear me out...
Masters: historic win by Matsuyama
PGA: Phil turning back Father Time for a week.
US Open: Rahm heroics
Open: no wind, no big number lurking. Morikawa wins in a bit of a yawner
The golf handicap system is broken.
If you're a really good player (2 or better) you have no chance playing in a Net game. But lucky for you, real golf (aka gross) exists!
If you're like me, a mid single digit, you're stuck in the dead zone. You're not good enough to compete

Trigger warning!!!
Here's my set-up in my 14 divider bag, on my push cart, which is parked on a cart path.
For the record I used a plastic tee. Also, I wore jeans and a hoodie. Finally, I played winter rules, since it's winter.
Back in 2013, I was playing The General at Eagle Ridge with some friends, and on the severe downhill 14th (I believe it's now the 5th), I drove the green. It was a 341 yard tee shot.
At the time it was fun! But I now know that I shouldn't have allowed myself to enjoy that
A golf course is designed with a cadence. This golf course is designed to finish on 16-18, with maximum pucker factor on 17.
A shotgun start cheapens the architects vision of a course, and robs fans of the type of drama we saw today.
Is there a better case against a shotgun style championship format than what we just watched at The Players?
Leave the LIV vs PGA out of it, just the actual logic here.
In a shotgun, Scottie would have finished on hole 3 today!! 😢

Many of you have inquired about the
#ShrinkTheGame
initiative. You're tired of abhorrent behavior on the course, soaring initiation fees/monthly dues, and full tee sheets minutes after the tee sheets open.
Here are the key tenants of the shrink the game initiative:
-Etiquette
Scrambles/Best Shots: This is where you can thrive, especially if you can get a few of your single digit buddies to play. You get 4 single digits in a scramble and you're probably shooting 57-61.
The bad news - at least one group is gonna cheat their way to a 49.
Let's talk about the golf distance rollback for a moment, shall we?
Yesterday Rory posted the screenshot below regarding distance. The thing Rory doesn't acknowledge is that it's not 5-10 yards, it's 1-2 clubs when you combine the driver distance loss with iron distance loss.
Near foolproof ways to know you're about to play a really good golf course.
1. They have a big ol' clock
2. Free, easily accessible water and bonus points for an ice machine
3. Simple, old school, hole signs
4. A basic sign for the golf course that is easy to miss if you're not
The 13th hole in the Best 18 I've played is the very unique and somewhat controversial 13th at Tobacco Road.
At 573 yards, this is a true 3 shotter for most golfers. The longest hitters can try to fly everything on the right and, if successful, are left with a short iron
It's interesting to me the dichotomy going on these past 6 months. Phil Mickelson is potentially irreparably damaging his legacy, while Rory McIlroy is cementing his.
A lot remains to be seen in how all this plays out, but I'm a bigger Rory fan than I've ever been.
This Kuchar thing is a reminder that you never know a dude by their public image. This is a reminder that we should watch pro athletes, & potentially be in awe of what they can do. But they aren't heroes. Parents, grandparents, teachers & coaches are heroes, to name a few.
As far as I can tell, Tiger Woods has never won a tournament that Scottie Scheffler played in. Meanwhile, Scottie has won at least 2 tournaments that Tiger has played in.
Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?
My home course has a scramble this morning so I grabbed a single opening with 3 other players at a local course. Get to the course and find out those 3 others refuse to play with me. So now I'm out here as a single on Father's Day surrounded by foursomes. So send me questions if
I just made 17 pars and 1 bogey. I hit 13 GIR. As each successive birdie putt slid by or lipped out, I kept hearing

Net Events: Don't even try it. You're not going to get enough shots to beat the highly managed 14 handicaps who "had the round of their life" the last 6 times they entered a club event.
Very fortunate to play Omaha Country Club today. This Perry Maxwell gem, expertly restored by Keith Foster, is a test for your game and a feast for your eyes.

I do not condone Phil Mickelson’s comments and was very disappointed in his choice of words — they in no way reflect my values or what I stand for as a fan. At this time I am pausing my fandom, and will re-evaluate my ongoing fandom at a later date.
My golf handicap index is trending to 4.7. This year I've shot scores ranging from 71 to 89.
Consistency is a myth. Everyone is going to have massive spreads from their low to high rounds.
It's part of the reason golf is so much fun and yet so maddening!
Watching the
@LPGA
Diamond Resorts event. It's a par 71, 6645 yards. Danielle Kang is -19, Nelly Korda is -17 and Jessica Korda is -15.
Good luck to all the scratch handicap dudes who think the could compete with the best LPGA players. 😏

Yesterday IBF and Faldo were talking about how Mr. Nicklaus is one of the guys that got them interested in golf. That's great and all, but it illustrates a point that most of CBS's on-air talent is 50+ years old. Maybe someone should hire Shane Bacon?
Yesterday I played golf with a coworker. As we were walking off 15 he made a joke about this probably being the only time we'll ever play (neither of us was lighting it up).
I said "Heck no! This is awesome!" He plays fast, doesn't get mad, and loves golf.

Four easy steps to be easy to play with:
1) be ready to play when it's your turn
2) know when to talk and when to be quiet
3) cheer the good stuff your playing partners do
4) help your playing partners look for their ball
Golf participation skyrocketed in 2020. Tee sheets were full and lots of equipment was sold. How do we retain all those new folks to the game?
USGA/R&A - let's look into reigning in equipment!

Okay, I know my answer. Which season is better thus far?

I don’t understand the anger about the golf ball roll back. It will make no difference whatsoever to the average golfer and puts golf back on a path of sustainability. It will also help bring back certain skills in the pro game that have been eradicated over the past 2 decades.
This just stinks so much for him. I get it from South Korea's perspective. They can't make a lot of exceptions.
No golfer has ever come back from their mandatory service the same player they were before.
Hopefully Tom can delay his service and get another chance.
Make your golf equipment work for you. I replaced my 5 iron with a 5 hybrid this year and the difference is incredible. Just hit a green from 190 out of medium bad lie in the rough. That was a 1 in 10 shot with a 5 iron. It's a 4 in 10 shot with a 5 hybrid.
Back in high school, I somehow uncorked a 360 yard tee shot with this bad boy. Almost 30 years later I still have no idea how it happened.
I feel like it had to have hit a sprinkler or something.
Got any weird golf stories to share on this blizzardy weekend?
After watching a bit of LIV this weekend, I am somewhat changing my tune about music on the golf course. I have always been very pro-music on the course, but after watching LIV and hearing how annoying it is, I am definitely stepping back a bit.
Thoughts on music on the course?
If I owned a golf course, here are the 3 things I would implement:
1) Juniors play free with any paid adult or for $5 if alone.
2) Max playing time is 4 hrs. Anyone playing behind pace will receive 1 warning, then be asked to leave.
3) All trees that are in play will be removed.
