That initial simplicity goes by quick and we all at some point “lose ourselves” in that sea of complexity. It’s where we learn at great depths and understand how simple we can truly make it to be an expert at our skill.

Couldn’t agree more. This is why it becomes much more important for catchers to understand their pitchers, before planning against hitters.
Pitchers: Want to improve your performance immediately without improving your stuff? 1.Identify your best-performing pitches against each bat side (not just your highest-grading pitches). 2.Increase the usage of those pitches. Simple, not easy. This demands a clear understanding of “good performance” and an informed catcher who knows when, where, and why to call these pitches.
