We are heartbroken over the tragic and sudden death of one of our officers, Mitchell Winters. Mitch died over the weekend in what appears to be a suicide. Mitch honorably served his country in the US Marines for 4yrs prior to becoming a police officer and serving our community.
Update: 8/29/21 0900am - child’s parent has been located and the investigation is ongoing. Child is safe and investigation will proceed to determine the circumstances and well-being of the child. Thank you to all who shared.

Tonight, two Phoenix police officers were shot while responding to a burglary call. Both officers are currently in the hospital, with one in critical condition. We stand with these officers and pray for their full recovery.

Mesa resident Scott B. dropped off enough pulled pork & sides to feed all three shifts at the Fiesta District this past week. He spent all night on the smoker to ensure the officers were fed for Christmas. The food was delicious and a big hit with the officers. Thank you Scott!

Officer Valdez was dispatched to ensure the call didn't involve an actual emergency & he took time to help Charlie know when its appropriate to call 911. Of course he also brought Charlie his Happy Meal.
A Mesa Police Officer was dealing with a sleeping, non complaint passenger on the light-rail. Suddenly, a distressed mother brought her baby to him because he had stopped breathing. Here’s Axon footage of the incident.

Remembering a fallen hero. Sgt. Brandon Mendoza was killed on a freeway by a wrong-way driver while heading home from work on May 12, 2014. Sgt. Mendoza served as a Mesa police officer for 13 years. We will always remember you! 💙

7 years ago, Mesa PD lost one of our own. Sergeant Brandon Mendoza was killed on his way home from work on May 12, 2014 by a wrong way driver on the freeway. Brandon was influential in making changes surrounding the community.

Cmdr. Driscoll worked for MPD from Sept. 1973 - Jan. 2004.
She was the first Commander to run the Superstition District.

Tonight, Officer Swanson retired. During his 20-yr career, he trained 51 officers & at one point, was Officer of the Year! A true leader amongst his peers, he exemplified professionalism and honor night after night working patrol. Congratulations Officer Swanson!

Happy retirement K9 Reza! Yesterday was Reza’s last day of Police Work. She served us dutifully for 6 years. Reza is a 8-year-old Dutch Shepherd & Belgian Malinois mix and we wish her all the best in retirement. Enjoy some pictures from her work across the years.

Today, in honor and remembrance of 9/11, training staff ran 110 flights of stairs at the Mesa Training Fire Tower. The same distance Firefighter heroes climbed on 9/11. Staff wore their BDU’s, Boots, and Ballistic vests to simulate the weight of the Firefighters gear.

Jonathon Baez was recognized for his heroic efforts on 2-18-22 in Mesa where he saved the lives of two children from a burning apartment. Mayor Giles, CM Freeman, CM Luna, Asst. City Manager Pombier, Fire Chief Cameli and Police Chief Cost all personally recognized Jonathon.
