Michigan state Senator (SD-35), mom to 6 + Tuck, lifelong advocate for kids & working families. Running for Congress in

to restore the

🚨 OUR FIRST AD, "BUILT THIS" 🚨
I'm proud of where I came from, and I know exactly who I'm fighting for. It’s why I helped pass the largest tax cut for working families in Michigan history, and why, in Congress, I'll keep fighting to lower costs and bring good-paying jobs to
Wondering who this guy is? They call him a "Tracker." He is paid for by the Republicans and he follows me around with a camera shouting comments. At the Capitol, outside restaurants when I am with my kids. Politics doesn't have to be this way.
#hatewontwin
62% of adolescent firearm suicides involve a gun belonging to a family member. 80% of school shooters under the age of 18 accessed firearms from their own home. My safe storage bill and our child access protection laws will save lives.
Counselor, Christian, Moderate Conservative, CPL holder. Mother whose youngest son was seriously injured in Oxford H.S. and whose oldest son was in MSU lockdown testifies on gun safety bills.

“We have an obligation to build systems to protect people.... when it comes to safe storage, it just makes sense.” — Genesee County Sheriff Christopher Swanson, testifying in support of our gun safety bills.
Hi Twitter Friends! Nice to know so many of you agree politics shouldn't be about harassment for gotcha moments. People tell me elected officials should show pet photos. So meet Tuck. He shares my belief we can debate substance without descending into distortion & ugliness. 1/3
Today,
@SarahAnthony517
became the first black woman to gavel in the Michigan Senate Appropriations Committee as Chair. It was an honor to be part of that historical moment and I’m thrilled to serve alongside her and my colleagues on Appropriations.
Background checks on all gun sales & safe storage signed! This will save lives and prevent so much loss. To all survivors, advocates and everyone fighting & voting for change, we are grateful. I’m always humbled to carry your voices to the Capitol but especially so today. 1/2
We came to Lansing to work. We came to tackle real problems. My safe storage bill is headed to the Governor’s desk with bipartisan support. Thrilled that the first public act with my name on it will keep our communities safer, protect our kids, and save lives.
A marvelous milestone finally reached in Michigan.
An awesome and fully American moment.
The road to include anti-discrimination protections for
#LGBTQ
+ individuals in our state law was long & hard for many. I am proud & grateful for advocates' fight.

80% of Michiganders recently surveyed support setting penalties for those who fail to secure their firearms at home or keep them out of the hands of minors. I'm proud to sponsor one of the child access protection bills in our gun safety package.
Before campaign speaking events, I would write down names of people who needed us to win, centering my remarks on those who need Michigan to do better and offer better... People who deserve a fair shot but who have been mainly left out of the political agenda. That has... 1/2
Worker suppression laws not only weaken workers' rights to bargain collectively, but they also drive economic inequality and lead to more wealth going to the top 1%.
Restoring Michigan workers' rights will help lift up Michigan's working class. It's time to get it done.
67. That’s the total number of mass shootings so far this year. As a Spartan, this one hit close to home. None of it is acceptable. We need to take action.
Another step closer! MI Senate just passed

I am proud to endorse Kristen
@McdonaldRivet
for U.S. Congress. Kristen is going to fight like hell for Michiganders in Congress, just like she's been doing in the state legislature.
She’s on the DCCC’s Red to Blue list because this is a seat we must win—and she’s the one to do
Thank you for a great event last night, Midland! And thank you, Senator

Listening to Senate Republicans argue for criminal penalties for living together outside of marriage makes me wonder if they know people don’t want the government involved in their private lives???

Today, our Senate takes up bills to repeal Michigan’s 1931 abortion laws.
While Prop 3’s passage restored reproductive rights here, the Supreme Court’s overturn of Roe showed us how critical it is to codify rights and protections into state law.
We’re bringing new jobs to Michigan but we lack affordable housing for workers.
We can tackle this crisis by giving
@MSHDA
and regional authorities more flexibility to meet our most pressing housing needs.
My bill proposes the changes to make this happen. 1/2
MSU student: “In a country that idolizes freedom, I need freedom... to go to my dining hall without checking over my shoulder to see if there is a gunman... to tell those close to me I love them without fear it’ll be the last time I say it... to get a violence free education.”
One of my daughters best friends, with whom she barricaded Monday night, wrote this. It’s heartbreaking, insightful, powerful all at once. Until you actually experience gun violence directly, you have no clue. This should not be.

🚨 We made history! 🚨
In our

campaign’s first 24 hours, we raised $250,000— a record for a non-incumbent House candidate in MI.
I am deeply grateful for this historic support. This strong start will help us carry our

Last year,
@GovWhitmer

.
It's good to have friends like we do with Team
@MalloryMcMorrow
. I'm so grateful for all our canvassers, whether you knocked doors for us once or every weekend since we started. There's always room for more shoulders at the wheel this final stretch...
It’s a great Knocktober day to go help your favorite downballot candidate flip the Michigan state Senate for the first time since 1984! Today, some of our team are out knocking for
@McdonaldRivet
. What are you doing today? 15 days til
#ElectionDay
and Michiganders are voting NOW.
“How would any one of these bills stop what happened at MSU?” When gun violence is the
#1
cause of death for our youth and kills 40,000+ Americans/yr — the problem is bigger than any one bill can solve. Laws are not our only tools but these gun safety bills will save lives.
It shouldn’t take ballot proposals to deliver what Michiganders want. Don’t reward lawmakers whose obstruction & extreme positions do nothing for working families. Get me to the State Senate and I’ll do what I’ve done my entire career— build coalitions to get real results.

So excited to join
@MISenDems
at such a promising time. And congratulations to our new Majority Leader,
@WinnieBrinks

I am so excited to serve in the Michigan Senate majority next term with these incredible people and to work with
@GovWhitmer
and

Getting back to teachers focusing more on student needs instead of ‘teaching to the test’… that’s worth celebrating!
@GovWhitmer
signed my bill making educator evaluations more effective & fair. This will help Michigan’s students, teachers & administrators.
Today, I introduced one of six
@MISenDems

Political games & politics should never get in the way of people’s jobs. What Michigan needs most are family-sustaining jobs. That's why I voted in favor of Gotion's plans to build a battery component facility in one of our lowest income, rural communities
Symbolizing workers earning the same right to respect as management,
#WhiteShirtDay
commemorates the
@UAW
& workers' rights.
The Flint Sit-Down Strike ended Feb 11, 1937 when GM recognized auto workers' union. MI workers paved the way for better conditions & benefits nationally.
Happy White Shirt Day! Today marks the historic day workers at the Flint Body 2 plant won their sit-down strike. Working Michiganders from every background came together in 1937. We can do so again in 2023 to build an economy that works for everyone.
Today we passed the
#WorkingFamiliesTaxCredit
increase, one of the largest tax breaks in Michigan’s history.
This is game-changing for 700,000+ Michigan families & almost 1 million children.
I’m honored & grateful it's my first legislation headed to the Governor’s desk. 1/2
The status quo has cost Michiganders deeply. We already pay high prices to address negative environmental impact on our people and planet. Without a strong move toward clean & renewable energy, those costs will keep increasing, hurting the little guy, and Michigan would miss out
HUGE!

's Powertrain plant. Combined with new Flint dollars, it’s $800 million for Michigan. Thrilled to join Plant Mgr John Lancaster and GM VP of NA Manufacturing Ops, Mike Trevorrow, for this phenomenal news for our region and workers. 1/2
As Christians, particularly this Easter weekend, we are called to protect the vulnerable. What Representative Walberg suggests is the mass murder of millions of innocents that would yield unthinkable global consequences. We simply cannot stand for extreme elected leadership in
The child access protection laws we just passed are personally significant— as a mom, as a Senator whose community members are impacted, and as someone who wants prosecutors to have the tools they need to hold irresponsible gun owners accountable.
Testimony like we heard in this committee hearing intensely humanizes gun violence statistics, policies, and news coverage. Survivors like this MSU transfer student are asking all of us to see this issue with human to human closeness and compassion.

Team McDonald Rivet had an 18-person crew going door to door in Saginaw Twp today... keeping a pulse on constituent priorities and getting the word out about how we're improving lives and opportunities here in our 35th Senate District and across Michigan.
Unsure about all this tax policy talk? Let’s look at the data.
4 in 10 MI families aren’t making ends meet. 6 in 10 MI jobs pay below what it takes to live a middle-class lifestyle. The question is: How can our tax policy help shape an economy where more of us can prosper? 1/3
I’m excited to serve on Senate Committees that can make incredible & lasting changes. People are counting on us to create policies that support economic opportunities and make Michigan an even more attractive state for talent development, recruitment, and retention.
