@adrianweckler Depends on what you mean by “restricting”. If you mean imposing tariffs or denying access to postal service, no, I’m not in favour. If you mean, ensuring they have to adhere to the general consumer measures that apply to all other retailers, yes.

They’re all your characterisations from your article: “For environmentalists, fewer deliveries mean lower emissions… , make people buy local stuff .. anything that lowers the influence of C-H-I-N-A … a nudge to consume less and be more mindful.” Many, me included, value free trade and competitiveness highly but I asked you if they’re means to an end or ends in themselves?

The funding political parties obtain is proportionate to the number of votes they receive at the previous election. A tiny party that revived a small number of votes, might succeed in getting control of a government department or two and diverting state funding to NGOs to campaign for measures that the small party wants but didn’t receive enough support to do.

@garrethmcdaid @higginsdavidw NGOs that seek to influence public policy when paid public funds by the Government/European Commission to do so are very problematic. Essentially, it’s agitprop and they’re no longer “Non-governmental” organisations.

Moderating a panel on the impact of Artificial Intelligence on creators, hosted by GESAC, the European Grouping of Societies of Authors and Composers last night, whose work feeds the models being developed by generative AI companies. They need, and deserve, a transparent licensing market. Happy to work with @IMROireland on this. #AI #EU #Creatives #Arts
