Incredibly disappointing. Supporting Home Rule means opposing Congressional interference.
I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings.
If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.

The RFK site can be so much more for the surrounding community with additional mixed use development and recreation than a 60,000 seat stadium with surface parking for 8 major events a year.

I have worked hard for 16 years to make statehood a reality. With advocates & our Delegate we have gotten DC statehood passed in the House twice now with almost unanimous support from Dems. In one fell swoop the Council just managed to alienate 20% of the people who supported us.

In March 2019, early in my first term, I was proud to support an

Following this shooting on Sunday and a further incident last night near the Roost, MPD is increasing patrols and will be deploying the Crime Suppression Team to the area for violent crime reduction patrols. MPD is asking neighbors to share any video or information you may have.

These are much-needed safety improvements for our neighborhood. I will urge DDOT to move swiftly to complete these projects and then turn their attention to Potomac & Kentucky.
DDOT has shared 2 upcoming plans in

to remove plastic pylons & make permanent needed curb & crosswalk extensions / bike protections. Result will be much safer pedestrian crossings in the neighborhood! I’ve pushed for these conversions if we’re ever going make VZ a reality.

We had months of DDOT presentations to 6B about Penn Ave bus lanes that focused on camera enforcement. It’s been a central piece of discussion about 8th St too. The Mayor undercut that at the last minute with no actual enforcement in sight.

Council hearings can sometimes give a false sense of public sentiment since they leave out potential witnesses who can't block large portions of their work day. There needs to be at least a virtual option long after we've gotten past COVID.
