Hummingbirds: from one far side of the metabolic spectrum to the other. Here's a neat animated vid on hummingbird metabolism and torpor based on a new study from @WelchLab_UTSC. Nice work Erich et al!

@rushdhill What a beauty! Renaissance man indeed. Sorry so late with the bigups... 3 months late is about where I'm at with everything.

Shrews: tiny power engineers. They construct/locate their cell powerhouses (mitos, obv) next to cell structures that require power most. B/c these structures vary among tissues, so too does mito morphology/localization. Great study by @dillon_chung et al.

What a study showing UCP contributions to hypoxia tolerance of mole rats. UCP expression decreases soo rapidly after hypoxia onset! And body temp regulation is not abandoned, just reset to low level right above ambient. Nice work, check it. @TattersallG

@Frank_Melzner @i_poddi @OSFramework Well said, thanks for sharing your thoughts, @Frank_Melzner, @i_poddi et al. Written in the context of rapidly changing marine environments, but equally applicable to other rapidly changing environments.

@CitImmCanada 2/2 …now on the hook for thousands of $. Plus, no RAMQ # limits childcare options, so we’re restricted to single income. This is all very stressful! We understand COVID delays at CIC, but please help us. We desperately want healthcare for our child. What can we do?
