It’s been a great morning at @FairviewBC! To top it off, we have a full house for the Coram Deo Baptist Church interest meeting! What an incredible privilege it is to help plant this church! #onmissiontogether

Earlier today, I saw the news that Jim Shaddix met Jesus face to face. Not too long ago, our Raleigh pastoral cohort spent the afternoon with Jim. In our gathering, Jim exhorted us to be steadfast in “pastoral preaching,” trusting that the Spirit will shape our particular congregations into the image of Christ through the faithful proclamation of God’s Word. He encouraged us to be patient. “Most pastors don’t stay in one place long enough to see long-term formation.” Jim asked searching questions like, “Can we look at our congregation and say they look more like Jesus than they did last year?” He exhorted us to remember, “We are feeding them with the supernatural element that can transform them into the image of Christ.” I did not spend as much time with Jim as others. He wasn’t my preaching professor, though I did audit his preaching class online once. I’ve read his books. We had a few lunches together. We’d see each other at meetings and conferences. But one thing sticks out in my mind: when I preached in chapel at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, he would wait in line behind the students and encourage me with a few things he took away from the sermon. He didn’t have to take the time to do that. However, that was the kind of man Jim was – a pastor to pastors. Jim encouraged and helped shape countless pastors in this generation. Go read all the testimonies online. It's incredible. Today, he heard the words ‘Well done, good and faithful servant!” What a legacy!
