All in all, the crux of the issue is - dealing with expressions is a holistic matter, where each element slightly modifies the outcome in its own way. Even slight changes to expressions can change their whole meaning.

I think part of the charm of undertale was that a lot of the pixel art was a mix of temmie's gorgeously crafted sprites n' toby's rough but very expressive stylistic suck. Fighting over which one is more representative of the game is useless when their juxtaposition is the point.
I remember that one of the criticisms that I saw the most in 2015 regarding Undertale was that the pixel art was ugly, and the truth is that it is something that I never understood because at least for me, the pixel art of Undertale is one of the most beautiful I have seen.
