I've decided to log off for the foreseeable future. I'm planning to do a deep dive into the Early Church Fathers, Protestantism, and Catholicism. My goals are to better understand my own views, the views of others, and to be open to reason in areas where I could have blind spots. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

@_taylor_TJ @dragodimitrov Thanks. I am genuinely curious about this topic. I will try to spark a conversation with some in-person Catholics I know.

Yes, but *submit to what they believe* still implies a personal choice in one direction. There is some reason they are choosing RCC/EO, whether it be history, ascetic, or mere preference. One cannot make a choice devoid of one's inclinations. That's at least where I am tripped up on the matter.

@_taylor_TJ @dragodimitrov Also, excuse my ignorance, but wouldn't a Catholic convert have to admit this as well? They as an individual, left one tradition for another because it seemed right to them?

I would probably word it as I've chosen to be part of a tradition that, from my perspective (I know, so individualistic of me š«¢), seems to contain theologians who collectively contribute to a tradition that harmonizes very well with Scripture. But, then again, I'm not going to admit it's possible I could be wrong.

@_taylor_TJ @dragodimitrov I actually forgot what the OP was all about. I mean, I would probably put a 0 or 1 because I donāt think God wants us to follow an interpretation weāve conjured up in our own minds.

@_taylor_TJ @dragodimitrov I just read the Calvin section. It seems to me heās specifically arguing for the Spirit as authenticating Scripture as Scripture which I would say is different from the idea that Protestants can come up with whatever interpretation they want.

@_taylor_TJ @dragodimitrov I literally got Letham from you lol. What is the source on that Luther quote? I want to read the context now.

@kkringlebotten @IFFFMEISTER @logos_asarkos āThatās exactly what I said!ā Is not a very convincing argument. Of course that is what one would think if one is advocating for oneās view. Iād that not obvious? I for one do not believe what he said and what our confession says are EXACTLY the same.

@IFFFMEISTER @kkringlebotten @logos_asarkos The principle of the matter is defining a viewpoint that another person believes that they themselves would not consider to be accurate.

@kkringlebotten @logos_asarkos @IFFFMEISTER Ya know how you guys donāt like when we use consubstantiation? Thatās how it feels when given a very generic, bland answer that doesnāt account for the various views within the reformed tradition.

The last sentence āAnd this communion is not unique to the Supper but can happen in and out of it,ā is not something I would agree with nor would I say his presence in the supper is the same as in the Word preached. TBH, Iām not interested in joining the debate. That was the whole point of my OP. To encourage camaraderie.

These are excerpts from what is read each Sunday from our Forms and Prayers: While remaining bread and wine, these sacred elements nevertheless become so united to the reality they signify that we do not doubt, but joyfully believe, that we receive in this meal by the Spirit through faith nothing less than the crucified body and shed blood of our Lord Jesus Christ. *The elements are distributed, and the minister may use the formula:* The bread which we break is a communion of the body of Christ. Take, eat, remember, and believe that the body of our Lord Jesus Christ was broken for the complete forgiveness of all our sins. The cup of blessing which we bless is a communion of the blood of Christ. Take, drink, remember, and believe that the precious blood of our Lord Jesus Christ was shed for the complete forgiveness of all our sins.
