@jonny_procter @STEMyBanda I can’t see the full thread, but the gist of it is that if we think about the nitration of toluene, the methyl group is electron donating in the intermediate but this is due to hyperconjugation. So it’s still fine that toluene undergoes nitration more rapidly than does benzene
