@TheOrthoEnsign @SSpinu35167 Reminds me of St. Augustine’s prayer “grant what thou command, and command what thou will”, that drove Pelagius berserk.

@TheOrthoEnsign Good call. Then someday, hopefully, you can start rebuilding that gargantuan 1st-21st century atonement thread.

@TheOrthoEnsign @HistoryDrove My priest wants me to present to the catechumens on repentance and confession. And I think I need to talk to him beforehand and say something like “I don’t want to teach against you, but this sin distinction is going to be an important part of my talk”.

@TheOrthoEnsign @HistoryDrove There’s no need, since the Orthodox Church doesn’t make the mortal/venial sin distinction like the nasty, legalistic West. Huh, what catechisms? What exomologetarion? You mean le captivity? I shouldn’t make light; This is a serious and dangerous problem. But that’s the origin?

@Orthodoxy2019 @rizz_and_theo Thanks. I kept hearing over the last few months at Church that the first Antiochian Monastery was being built. I thought that they just didn’t want to recognize Ladyminster, but I’ll mention those too.

@TheOrthoEnsign There really needs to be, added to seminary curriculum, the classes “reformation history until 1689” and “Protestantism 1700-present”

@augustiniser If you’re doing reformation history, or want to understand classical Protestantism, it’s essential. If you do, You should get the version with Erasmus’ responses, to get the full scope of the argument

@TheOrthoEnsign Do you have a good resource dealing with the issue of how Pelagianism was dealt with at Ephesus 431, and the lead up to it? Catechumens at Church are going over ecumenical councils, and that part normally gets left off after the main Nestorian issue.

@BioticCommando2 A nice story about Metropolitan Saba and the Western Rite. The entire interview is worth watching, but this story is about 4 and a half minutes.

@mattbramanti “It is as if the head of the anti-slavery league had denounced Abraham Lincoln for signing the Emancipation Proclamation. Indeed, that proclamation meant that there would no longer be slavery, but it also meant that there would no longer be an anti-slavery league”.

@TheOrthoEnsign I’ve read little of him, but from everything that I have read, it seems impossible to describe Fr. Seraphim as a fanatic, as a lot of his critics do. Fanatical in his personal asceticism and repentance maybe, but his interactions with non-Orthodox don’t bear this charge out.

@BrotherAugusti2 Where does Augustine discuss it, and who are some other saints that I can read on the issue?
