“I don’t like the idea of understanding a film, don’t believe that rational understanding is an essential element in the reception of any work of art.Either a film has something to say to you or it hasn’t. If you are moved by it, you don’t need any explanation.”
Federico Fellini

A priest in town is accosted by a prostitute. ‘A quickie for twenty pounds?’ she asks. Puzzled, the priest shakes her off. Outside town he meets a nun. ‘Pardon me, sister,’ he asks, ‘but what’s a quickie?’ ‘Twenty pounds,’ she says. ‘Same as in town.’

My late mother (sitting down) at Brighton or Eastborne Beach ⛱️ in the 60s.
Love that she is BAREFOOT & smiling.
In those early days as an immigrant Cypriot in the UK, my father, every Friday with his wages, would buy a vinyl record, a piece of clothing for himself and a gift
Lamb Jalfrezi 🍽🍷
Didn't want to make naan and no supermarket in area had any
so used Greek pita (not Cypriot). An acceptable alternative.
There's raita too hiding behind the sambal thingy.

Once devastated by a plague the village was reborn on higher ground and thrived.
Brutal poverty forced all but the old folk in the early 1960s to emigrate to Australia and the US, a handful to the UK.

"Man thinks he wants freedom, in reality he is afraid of it. Why? Because freedom obliges him to make decisions and decisions involve taking risks."

“L’uomo crede di volere la libertà, in realtà ne ha una grande paura. Perché? Perché la libertà lo obbliga a prendere decisioni e le decisioni comportano rischi.”

She was not the best mother but she was the best woman
Over 1500 people turned up at her funeral in London
She helped (via the Greek embassy) many Greek families in need, housing and feeding them whilst their children received treatment for cancer

Right, I'm off to a village by the sea in Cyprus for good, I can't take the madness anymore.
American friends, you are welcome to visit, any time.
Beers 🍻 on me xx
Every village had 👇 'one ~ 1' a telephone booth, always placed near the coffee shop ☕
When it rang ☎️ the owner, a customer or passer by would answer, take the message & find the person the call was intended for... worked a treat, what a SYSTEM!!

What do you do 10.30am when your car is delayed at service...
You put together a fully loaded gyros!
There's mustard and tzatziki in there 😋 (that's my preference, today).
In Ancient Greece, they were cooking a flat round bread called πλακούς (plakous) which means “flat”. They topping it with olive oil, cheese, herbs, onion, garlic and then baked it in a mud oven. Romans used this as basis for the dish called pizza 🍕.
