Our Crowdfunder is sadly a little slow on the uptake. We are still hopeful though, and if everyone who followed me chucked in £2.50 we'd hit our target😄. I get that times are hard though, so even sharing this would be a big help, thanks 🖤💛🖤
I was complaining to my friend about how awful things feel and how hard it all is at the minute, and he said 'it's a period of deep moral injury for anyone with a thinking mind and a working heart,' and if that doesn't just hit the nail on the head I don't know what does.
When Italy were at almost 1,000 deaths per day, our media were all, 'WHAT DID ITALY GET SO WRONG,' 'DEVASTATING SCENES IN ITALY.'
Yesterday we had almost 1,000 deaths and our media were like 'BORIS JOHNSON SITS UP IN BED 👏👏👏HERO.'
Dying at BBC news. The presenter was talking about the supermoon and there was meant to be a picture but it didn't appear, so she held her hands up in a circle and said 'it looked a little bit like that.'
Perfect, no notes.
Because we have a small core of deeply suspicious and incurious conspiracists, a media system set up to promote those views to create binary arguments for engagement, and a government that panders to those same people's deepest yet entirely unfounded fears.
Sorry for two rants so early on a morning, but I'm not comfortable *at all* with police accounts behaving like this, and it's becoming very common. All the blue tick morons are telling them how funny they are and they're lapping it up and responding with an online survey.
It's kind of wild that the British Library has been hacked and is under ransom, and the only real reporting of it is in tech publications. It seems like... quite a big deal.
Full article here if you want more:
While our website is unavailable following a major technology outage caused by a cyber-attack, we’re keeping our blog up to date with what’s on at the Library:
We’ve just uploaded more events up until 14 December, including our current season of Fantasy
I found a VHS tape at the junk store that just had the label "A surprise!"
I thought I'd check it out, since I have a VCR & TV hooked up after all.
Just... Just watch.
Can I just say, I think
@KatyMontgomerie
does SUCH an incredible job of defending trans rights with evidence and facts in an incredibly calm and polite way, which is amazing given how much abuse and nastiness she faces daily. It must be exhausting, she is brilliant. ❤️
@DPJHodges
@KatyMontgomerie
I am a woman, Dan. A cis woman, if that matters to you. So arguably I have a lot more skin in the game over the 'protection of women's spaces' than you do. Trans women have used our bathrooms all my life, I've neither noticed, not minded. Polling shows most women feel the same.
What the actual f*ck is this misogynistic claptrap from
@Newsweek
?! Taylor Swift isn't a role model because she's 'unmarried and childless', what the hell? Written by a man, of course, but you should be ashamed to have published this vacuous nonsense.
@TinyWriterLaura
I'm horribly fascinated by this shifting recent years to 'but thats how I feel it went' in the face of incredibly well documented evidence contradicting that.
@KatyMontgomerie
You have to wonder at the disconnection of the person using 'minding my own business' coupled with 'debating if I should say anything.' So, very distinctly *not* minding your own business then.
@timmatmusic
Kind of amused (not really amused) that it's okay for the woman to work, just not earn more than the man. Weird, deep layers of insecurity there.
@jk_rowling
best of it is, if you'd written a character like that, everyone would roll their eyes and say it was a bit of a stretch. No 'World Leader' would ever conduct themselves in that way 👀
Man who kept his boat besides his house was ordered from the city to put up a fence to hide the boat from view. So he built the fence and hired someone to paint it.
@MartinSLewis
'I would like you, Martin, to stop telling it as it is, and instead stick your fingers in your ears like me and the government, while shouting LA LA LA'
I'm not retweeting the conversation, but hear me on this. Working class areas, poor areas, 'rough'(!) areas, DESERVE art and culture too. Works in those places should not be moved out of areas because snobs think that they're 'vulnerable' there or 'not appreciated'.
A child is among the dead people who were looking for a better life. Still I'm seeing heartless, ignorant and disgusting comments. The entitlement that comes with something completely random like where you happen to be born, is astounding. Such a lack of compassion and empathy.
Yesterday I reported how many children were at the "camps" near Dunkirk and Calais, living in the woods and streets. Reuters are now reporting that one little girl is among the 31 who have died.
@EmmaSzewczak
even though I understand that other women absolutely had, I myself had never had a painful/traumatic experience until the last one where the nurse didn't have a clue what she was doing and hurt me quite badly. If that had been my first/only experience I might not have gone again.
@KatyMontgomerie
'The water stops, the hand dryer starts whirring like a tornado... the main door thuds... the silence was loud!'😂😭
Big 'I am the main character in my own hero story' energy for a tale that is really 'I went to the bathroom and nothing happened.'
'And then you go to Sunderland and you're like "where the f*ck am I" [audience laughs].'
Just one more example of the way the north east is so frequently treated (see: mocked). Sunderland is very tired of being 'the South's' punching bag, it's so reductive, get another hobby.
I’ve got to say, it concerns me that Vice President of
@RADA_London
, who just so happens to be
@CynthiaErivo
, would speak about Sunderland like this. Maybe unintended, but it’s that same old narrative of ppl from my area/background being othered by this industry.
@lauraw97_
a friend is paying £700+ to rent a two-bed house where the mortgage would be half that if he could buy it. We're so desperate for private sector rental reform but what would the Tories do if not appease the landlords who donate to them, eh. Such a disgusting system.
@KatyMontgomerie
some of the replies yelling that women should be able to wear trousers and 'wear what you want' but also that any 'man wanting to wear a skirt' must be a deviant. 😵💫brain rot
@LifeAfloat
don't apologise, that message is out of order. You don't owe anyone your time or attention just because they think they know you from following online. Keep doing your thing and look after yourself first, people who enjoy your stuff will still be around.
@lottelydia
I saw someone say earlier - and I'd not thought about it like this but it's so true - that we go from teenage girls being told GETTING PREGNANT WILL RUIN YOUR LIFE to young women who are told WHEN ARE YOU HAVING KIDS YOUR EGGS WILL BE USELESS SOON. And there's *no* middle ground.
I think it’s true that bridging the gap will have to come more from men than women, but I think diagnoses of "toxic masculinity" only exacerbate the problem, causing further negative polarisation.
Young men need better role models, but it’s not their fault they don’t have them.
@brokenbottleboy
Never understood people using their partners as fodder, either for content, a cheap laugh... whatever. You're supposed to be on the same team, I can't imagine ever using someone I love like this. I wonder if he's genuinely okay about it all or if he just accepts it.
@Otto_English
I don't wish to be surveilled, cries a man using Twitter... under his real name... from his iPhone.
While tweeting about where he was and what he was doing.
@CJSheppy1941
@MartinSLewis
oh for the love of god give this sort of nonsense a rest.
Also it's 'dying,' education is one of the many things that's improved since your day along with living standards and life expectancy. 'Things were rubbish for me so they should be for you too' is a shit take.
@CenterParcsUK
@Leanne61639007
Well this is just nuts. Imagine the damage you're doing to your reputation over this prescribed national mourning. You don't close everything down over other bank holidays do you?
@KatyMontgomerie
hilarious to me that they're touching public toilet seats en masse, to place stickers that nobody will ever see, to own... who, exactly. Couldn't waterboard that kind of self-own out of me.
@nicolathorp_
Congratulations Nicola, this is excellent news. And I hope
@I_amMukhtar
can get a similar result (perhaps even citing this judgement now?)
@daraobriain
Someone on another thread (in response to this) said they were ashamed to be British and a Brexiter replied with 'move then' and then my irony meter exploded.
@EmpressXayide
Over 3,000 people liked this photograph of toilets that cater for everyone, with a sign literally saying where the only toilet *not* seen in the photo, is located. I guess there's a thirst for 'pictures of toilets that get me internet attention.' Well done on cracking that market
Bank Holiday Monday but I can't resist showing you one of my abandoned factory pictures. This floor buffer was one of the many things still lying about.

Tidied up my timeline a bit, life's too short to argue with idiots, but instead we can celebrate amazing brutalist structures like Peterlee's Apollo Pavillion 😍 phone pic:
