Staircase :
Made out of stainless steel - the steps sort of resemble Mac Pro'13 look.
The staircase has a spiral design that changed from glass steps (2006) to stainless steel steps (2019).
There are also two normal staircases (side of the store) that were added later.

Why 5th Avenue?
Back in 2003, Jobs was not really interested in opening a store here.
It wasn't until a guy named Harry Macklowe, the buyer of the building, pitched him the idea.
5th Ave. was one of the most luxurious stretches of retail in the US - the "Right Fit" for Jobs.

A glass cube - A huge transparent entry to an underground store.
He hired Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, an architecture firm for this project. In 2019, Foster + Partners also worked on it.
In fact, the construction was done in secrecy in 2006.

Store Height:
Jobs wanted a 40-foot design but it was due to some legal hiccups, he had to stick to a 30-foot height.
Everyone knew that Jobs won't agree to this change so they showed him how the 30-foot design would look at 2 AM in the morning and he finally got convinced.

Glass Cube:
The cube is the entrance to the underground store and a symbol of innovation and transparency.
It was designed by Jobs himself.
It was made of 90 panels in 2006, 15 panels in 2011, and 3 panels in 2019.
It had an Apple logo suspended inside till 2011.

Made of stainless steel, it runs right between the circular staircase.
The intertwined look of the stairs with the elevator gives a futuristic look - one from time travel movies.
The elevator went from a flat floor in 2006 to a curved floor in 2019.
