This is Jolene — my PTSD service dog. I cannot tell y’all how often she clocks folks in distress while in the field with me. Its beautiful to watch her do her job *so well* (she changed my life) but also its gutting the levels of trauma, stress + cortisol she feels everywhere. 🫶
Today at my office I ran into a guy with a service dog getting off the elevator, and the dog beelined STRAIGHT to my side.
Me: Oh, he’s so sweet!!! Can he tell if people are stressed?

The biggest threat to Latinx mental health is stigma. Its us. Its our rhetoric. Its religiosity. That needs to really sink in as we work on breaking generational trauma with the next generation looking to us in the way we looked to our parents when drowning. It can end with us.
Latine mental health is a complex issue that's often overlooked. As a community, we face unique challenges that can impact our mental well-being. It's important to prioritize our mental health and seek help when needed.

covering nonprofits. I didn’t choose this beat b/c I think all nonprofits are hiding something!
I chose it b/c nonprofits are strongly trusted but weakly policed.
So they might be a good place *to* hide something, if you wanted....1/

The fact that *any* consultant doesn’t understand this is embarrassing. And dangerous. We are in service of our communities, not funders. We are in service of justice and liberation, not placating egos. And if our clients demand otherwise, we need to draw firm ethical lines.

with the assault, but let me tell you how unprepared they were for a staff member getting assaulted on the clock. HR had nothing in terms of what to offer me. HR actually denied my ER claim for getting checked out afterwards though the hospital coded it as workplace related 4/

The grabbing the cheapest and latest flight home so you dont have to stay an extra night and instead grab an uber at 3 am alone. After my assault, my colleague had to let my CEO know that it wouldn't be appropriate to send an all staff letting them know I had been assaulted 6/

Some days are hard. We’ve had a lot of those lately. And then something small reminds you of how fucking extra and magical we are as a people and you just have to remember to breathe. To my fellow Colombians—may we imagine a future where we thrive as hard as our hotdogs do. 🇨🇴♥️

I’ve spent a week processing the loss of a friend to suicide. I know it sounds “cursi” but it made me more determined to explore + connect w/ folks on reimagining an “ethic of care” for all areas of our lives. It also made me desire to be both softer + more ferocious about this❤️🔥
