Today our teenage students compared verses of Surah TaHa from the Birmingham manuscript (carbon dated to around the time of the Prophet ﷺ) to various Qur'anic copies used today. They were amazed at how the texts match up & are unaltered despite nearly 1500 years passing.

Having students "memorise" the complete Qur'an without a solid revision schedule is detrimental in the long run. We end up producing "Huffaz" unable to recite accurately from memory, let alone lead people in Taraweeh prayers. It is better to memorise less but memorise well. (1/3)

Make an intention to memorise the Qur'an, even if it be by memorising one line a day. You'll either eventually become a Hafiz, or die and meet Allah whilst trying to become one. How beautiful!

We need to be careful when reading "la" in the Qur'an. If you stretch it (لا - laa), it means no. If you don't stretch it(لَ - La) , it means definitely. For example: لا يعلمون: They don't know. لَيَعْلَمُوْنَ: They definitely know.

Let's break this down in a UK context. Conditions for this ruling: 1) Slaughterman must be Christian/Jew 2) Slaughter must be with a sharp cut to the throat, severing the necessary veins (windpipe & gullet at minimum). 3) Taking God's name (condition not found in Shafi'i school)

If Canada is a predominately Christian country like Turkey is a predominately Muslim country and McDonalds doesn’t serve pork (to avoid cross contamination) and we do not have proof that the meat they serve was NOT slaughtered, the default is that it is halal to eat it.

A beautiful fact about Morocco is its connection to Madinah Munawwarah. Moroccans are a people who follow the fiqh of Madinah (the Maliki school), and the Quranic reading of Madinah (Warsh ‘an Nafi‘ al-Madani). “And Madinah will be better for them, if they only knew.” - Hadith.

Allah commanded Maryam A.S to shake the tree in order to receive dates, despite being able to give her dates effortlessly if he so willed. This highlights the importance of working & effort in order to achieve something.

As Muslims, we become publicly outraged when people disrespect our religion and its signs. However, have we ever looked in the mirror and felt outrage at the way we disrespect our religion through our own behaviour? (A 14-year old student in our weekly khutbah training session)

Dar Makkah. Visited for the first time today - certainly among the largest Islamic bookshops I've visited anywhere in the world, located right in the heart of Birmingham. Amazing.

In Islam, the scholarly class is a distinguished academic class. The Islamic scholarly fraternity is not similar to a priesthood that holds a complete monopoly on people & society.

Beautiful experience today while praying in a noisy Primark stairwell. A young man (non-Muslim) came up the stairs & saw me praying. He immediately went back down to tell his friends & those coming up to remain quiet, out of respect for someone praying. May Allah guide him.

4 famous victories took place in Ramadān: 1- Battle of Badr (2AH) 2- Conquest of Makkah (8AH) 3- Battle of Qādisiyyah (15AH) 4- Battle of 'Ayn Jālūt (658AH) May this continue to be a month of victory for us.

While reciting the Qur'an correctly is important, we must avoid extremities in attempting to apply Tajwid such that it becomes the sole end-goal of recitation rather than a means to the true goal: meaningful reflection and guidance. Balance is key.
