There was a recent post in a junior golf forum that truly made me sad.
The parent asked about strengthening his child's mental game. The child is 9, and according to the parent, shoots in the mid- to high-30s in practice rounds but then shoots 42 in competitions. The parent said
With the USGA loosening the rules on amateur status, anyone know of a company that makes the back glass for a 2005 Dodge Caravan who's looking to sponsor a junior golfer who's a bit overconfident picking his targets?
This kid.
He finished his school work and was playing Street Fighter. I wanted him to take a break. Told him he had to make 5 straight 8' putts, and then he could go back to playing video games.
This was the first five putts he took.
Been a mallet putter guy for years now.
But mulling a change.
Not based on putting performance, but because the blade guys have better headcover options.

But rankings are always relative to the field. And if the same golfers play each other over and over again, statistically, there is no way to measure the quality of their play. Leaving politics aside, this is a necessary and correct decision.
After surgery to repair her hip dysplasia, twelve weeks in a body cast, another month in a brace (which she should be done with tomorrow and so she's wearing here), Christiana is ready to be back in action.
I saw Andrew post this about a year ago.
I can't recommend it highly enough for helping you (or someone else) gain a clear idea of what the club should be doing entering impact.
It's not just about shaft lean at impact. If you do this, you'll immediately and intuitively
Golf broadcast idea: on approach shots, draw a virtual ring around the hole at the average proximity a Tour pro leaves it from his approach distance. Immediate knowledge of whether it gained or lost strokes—and whether the announcer is speaking nonsense.
About to leave with my wife and baby girl. My littlest one is having surgery early tomorrow morning to repair her hip dysplasia. We would be grateful for prayer for successful surgery and recovery.
This is absurd. Imagine, fellow 10-indexers:
You're on the tee of a 400 yard hole. You hit a drive, the best of your life. The ball rockets off the sweetest place of your driver face, a spot the USGA didn't even know existed. The ball lands on a buried rock in the fairway and
PROS vs AMATEURS
Looking at the skill gap between pros and amateurs is always fun.
This is something I always get a lot of questions about.
THE GAP IS HUGE
A lot of people are surprised the first time they see these numbers. I want to note that the gaps below are actually
Found out today that my little girl is going to need pretty extensive hip surgery this spring. Grateful for a sovereign God and the prayers of friends and strangers alike.

I'm sorry: shallowing is currently the proper solution to everything in the golf swing. It likely is also the answer to poverty and political polarization. Disparaging comments or even comments that provoke thought about shallowing should not be permitted.
Hey
@PGATOUR
, could we show our guy
@GeorgeBryanIV
a little love and update his profile so that he's not 62 years old as he plays his first PGA Tour event this week?
Jon Rahm currently holds the title of "Best Player in the World Without any Obvious Major Weaknesses in His Game" (BPitWWaOMWiHG for short). Who else is in the conversation?
Our family is grateful for all the prayers and well wishes. My daughter's surgery went well—in many ways, it was easier than anticipated. But she's in this cast for a few months.

Literally, an account dedicated to the least glamorous parts of professional golf, maintained by a guy who revels in some of the least glamorous levels of public golf. Anyone who thinks you're big-timing anyone has missed the point of everything you do :)
Gotta ask a favor: I need people to either 1) tell me again that I have no business playing a club like this or 2) go buy these pre-owned

639 MBs, because for $320 for 5-PW, these are tempting:
Amateurs: "My biggest problem is that I'm so inconsistent. I'll shoot an 80 one day, then blow up to a 92 the next."
Kevin Chappell shot 12 strokes better today than yesterday.
Another reality check, right

Laying up to your preferred yardage isn't proven to be a bad strategy because of that one shot.
It's a bad strategy because it's proven by millions of shots.
On the scale of golf pressure, where does "I'm going on a golf trip and playing some nice courses, so I'd like to play some decent golf because playing like garbage would really be disappointing" rank?
If you justify a golf purchase because you're going to sell another golf item, but then don't sell it right away—if you sell it later, can you use it to justify a totally different purchase without giving your wife grounds for justified homicide?
Hypothetically, of course.
A very forgettable 18 today, other than a great personal highlight: drove the 17th green, less than a foot from the cup, and tapped in for an eagle. First eagle for me in a standard round of golf.
You are facing a major life-altering decision, but you cannot make it yourself. Instead, you must choose one of the following to decide for you. Who are you picking?
@maxhoma23
Upon further review, my favorite part of this swing is that he manages to finish on the outsides of both of his feet at the same time. Impressive.
I feel way more comfortable putting from 8 feet than I do when I have one of those nervy 3 footers.
For that reason, when I'm not likely to make the putt, I try to lay up to my more comfortable footage.

I don't think athletes have some deep obligation to be role models. And I want my son to have heroes outside of sports.
But since my son is a golfer, I appreciate guys like Morikawa—guys who I can point to and say, "Son, that's class. Act like that."
Just two Masters champions showing you how to hit high handle, toe-down chips. 🍿
Watch the full 6-minute short game clinic with

and Scottie Scheffler:
There are rules for slow play that should produce penalty shots and yet somehow never do.
Then there's this, where a guy is penalized two shots because his playing partner forgot to sign his card.
Can we please reverse these situations? Now?
There has been plenty of heartbreak in Q-school so far but James Hart du Preez story might top the list
In the second round he signed his card and his scores were correct but he was assessed a 2-stroke penalty 3 hours after leaving the course.
My story
Me: "Golf is recreation, a hobby. It should be enjoyable. Why make it more unpleasant than it needs to be?"
Also me: "I just bought a training aid that can administer electric shocks if you swing the wrong way."
@Rich_golffit
I agree with your point, but I'd tweak it a bit: even if it were compatible with golf development, it's still not great for human development, in my judgment. And youth sports almost always should be a tool for shaping character more than for producing athletes.
