The Day I Survived a Bomb Attack. Thirteen years ago today, I was targeted in a bombing attack in Eastleigh which tragically claimed the lives of eight people next to me, including two young brothers. Despite sustaining debilitating injuries, I survived. Today is the anniversary of that horrific attack. I endured months in hospitals in Kenya, South Africa and the USA. Both my legs were severely damaged and required skin grafts to cover the blast wounds. I had lacerations, cuts and burns all over my body, and many other injuries. I underwent around 26 operations. After four years in a wheelchair and on crutches, I learned to walk again. Throughout this ordeal, I kept hope and a strong spirit, never losing faith in the inherent goodness of humanity. With true grit and courage, and the unwavering support of my wife, family, friends, and the wonderful constituents of Kamukunji, I swiftly moved forward with my life. As an active representative, I have dedicated myself to serving the people who elected me to Parliament for four consecutive terms. I am grateful for getting a second chance and the opportunity to make a difference and contribute towarde the quest for a fair, just and equitable world. CARPE DIEM.

I'm absolutely shattered by the news of the passing of Ahmed Rajab, the brilliant Zanzibar-born Pan-Africanist journalist and editor, who left us on Wednesday in London. He was a dear friend, a treasured comrade, and a mentor who generously shared his wisdom. Ahmed’s sharp wit, engaging stories, insightful commentaries, political analysis, and unwavering commitment to truth made him a true giant in the field of journalism. He was a veritable library of knowledge, his mind a vast repository of information, and his network of contacts unmatched by any journalist I know. Ahmed was for many years a broadcaster at the BBC, a founding editor of Africa Events and Africa Analysis, and an editor at the UN’s IRIN News. He will be deeply missed. I’m sending all my love and support to his beloved family and my condolences to his many friends across world. May Allah grant him peace and a place in Paradise.

A giant of our time has fallen. Profoundly saddened by the passing of Sam Nujoma, founder of the vanguard liberation movement SWAPO and founding father of the Namibian nation. I had the honour of knowing Uncle Sam Nujoma and the lifetime privilege of witnessing Namibia's independence under his leadership. He was a true Pan-Africanist, a revolutionary, and a champion of African liberation. He eschewed the excesses of power, remaining true to his humble beginnings by living a simple life. My condolences to his family and the people of Namibia. Go well, Comrade President! @TheNamibian.
