@tswetnam @MetroTransitMN @CyVerseOrg @thecarpentries This is the exact response I pictured from you, down to the setting, though maybe while cleaning an elk.

@datavizjenn At this point basically 100% R. I would rather spend an hour or two digging for extension packages or "hackish" solutions in R than do manual edits, then get feedback, go change the R code, repeat manual edits, etc.

Truly wild to see an economist struggle so much with the concept of labor

Graduate students are primarily students and trainees, not ordinary workers. Academia is a calling. I suspect unionization will tip the balance so faculty prefer, at the margin, to hire post-docs to do research in their labs rather than students.

@tswetnam @MelissaLucash Can't think of any tutorials off the top of my head, but I think the approach depends on the structure of the RDS or RDA files. Are all the data.frames formatted similarly, or are they relational tables? Is the issue memory or just handling lots of data.frames at once?

@naked_statist @kaliestefan @RadishHarmers what does it mean for a probability to be "subjective" vs. "physical"?

@Emil_Hvitfeldt @drob Thanks Emil! Yeah I love reorder_within for doing these types of rankings across multiple categories. It's one of those little use cases I never thought of until I was going mad trying to figure out how to get the job done
