On my last trauma 24 hour shift of residency and on this Memorial Day weekend I want everyone to do something fun like stay inside and read a book!! Don’t ride an ATV. No mopeds. No ladders. No guns. No driving. Just read! It’s fun!!!

🧵A few months before I started med school I went to Argentina on a school trip. I got HUS presumably from some bad meat and got really sick (dialysis, plasmapheresis, seizures etc..). I was discharged from the hospital after a month on Feb 19th (today!).

I got my chief picture taken this morning (‼️) and after I saw it I asked the photographer if I should smile bigger. He said “if you were a pediatrician I’d say yes but for a surgeon it’s fine.” Surgeons can be nice/happy too!!! I retook it.

My family and I call Feb 19th alive-aversary. We try to do acts of kindness on this day every year, inspired by my dialysis nurse, Wes, who brought my family a steak picnic in the hospital a few days before discharge. We had so many people help us but steak>>>TPN.

Failed nighttime LCBDE with subsequent post op ERCP has same length of stay as successful daytime LCBDE. Acute Care Surgeons are perfectly positioned to manage choledocholithiasis!

On my first 24 as trauma SAR yesterday I got so many trauma consults/codes back to back that an ED resident offered to write one of the trauma H&Ps for me. 😂 I didn’t take him up on it but it was truly interprofessionalism at its finest. Or I maybe I just looked defeated 😂
