White people have spent years making sure we aren't welcome in their spaces. Willing to fight, pass laws, and die to make sure Black folks don't sit at the table.
But when we build our own table from the ground up, ya'll suddenly want a seat like you're entitled to it. 1/
Your continued decision to stay silent in the wake of a racially driven terrorist attack broadcasted live on YOUR platform has an overwhelmingly loud impact
@Twitch
.
Dear white people...
'Go touch grass' is not a literal statement, nor is it meant to be derogatory towards people with disabilities that keep them from leaving the house.
It is AAVE.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.
The constant infiltration of white folks into Black and other POC spaces only comes from a place of white privilege and racism.
That's why "reverse racism" (not a real thing) is their first go to when we tell them this space isn't for them. /2
The difference is pretty clear:
We create spaces for us so that we can protect and celebrate ourselves in the face of mass hatred for simply existing.
A lot of White folks create spaces to exclude and dehumanize us on the basis of racism and hate. /3
Why am I not surprised that once again thin non-black people are coming for
@lizzo
?!
I also just do not agree with the idea that shapewear is inherently fatphobic. Shapewear helps me A FAT PERSON, with chronic pain and to be able to move freely in my body as it is.
You not being bothered by the word "sp**ky" or any other version of the word doesn't make it magically not have racist roots.
Choosing to deny the facts, doesn't change the history.
And if someone setting boundaries about racial slurs upsets you...you're probably racist.
As a fat person who has been fat most of my life, some of the saddest thing's I've been subjected to are:
•Weightloss programs at 10
•an ED by 16
•Misdiagnosed autoimmune disease for 20 years - medical fatphobia
•Being told I was going to die alone as "motivation".
Hey so, for the sake of my mental health, I'm reserving my "she" pronoun for friends and family. I'm tired of people using it as
1. A way to not have to acknowledge that I am non-binary and
2. A run around insult because their big mad.
They/them if I don't know you like that.
I really hope everyone keeps the same energy for the whyt celebrities when they use ableist language too.
It doesn't in any way mean that Lizzo shouldn't take accountability,
But too many whyt people are walking the line of racism with their takes on this.
Whoever donated to my Ko-fi today, I want you to know I'll be able to pay nearly all my bills this month without having to worry about going back to work vs my health right now and I'm sobbing. Thank you.
If as a yt person you look at POC expressing the ways racism has effected them, and your immediate reaction is to clap back with "not all white folks" or "not me"...let me tell you, you might not be as anti-racist as you think.
I contracted Covid fully masked and vaccinated 4 months ago. I survived and as a chronically ill person, I am thankful for that everyday.
But people really need to understand that surviving/survival rates aren't the whole story...
Clownery is watching mostly white creators sing the praises of Kick after they had one good stream there, and now they're willing to overlook all the racist, bigoted shit from Kick while also claiming they have a "safe space" for their community.
🚩🚩🚩
Performative.
For me personally, it tells me the space isn't "safe" for me and that a stance wouldn't be taken to support me and other marginalized folks both when the topic is brought up and just in general. I refuse to be reduced to a tag for engagement with zero action behind it.
Cons have just turned into me being so disappointed at all the🌟maskless🌟 con photos. Followed by endless "Well, I tested positive for Covid, did everything I could..." posts.
I walked into my old classroom today and was immediately welcomed by old parents and asked what my pronouns are.
The teacher even knew when she asked which tells me she took the time to see it on my socials even though I haven't taught here in 2 years.
Yup...I'm home.
Went and did another Covid test for peace of mind and it's positive.
I am vaccinated but also chronically ill. We haven't stopped masking or socially distancing this entire time.
I'm so upset. I'm terrified.
Please get vaccinated, wear a mask, and stay distanced.
So Target doubled down this Pride and decided not to sell it's Pride collection in all stores based on backlash and "historic sales patterns"
They pulled the entire collection from our store.
Just so we're clear:
It's Free Palestine until Palestine is FREE.🍉
Until their days are filled with laughter instead of bombs
Until they can stop existing in fear
Until Israel is recognized and stopped for the terrorist, genocidal state that it is.
Until then, we don't stop.
We don't get to turn off our existence. Saying you have a no politics rule to give people a space to not be burdened by it is to not understand that those "political" topics have our very lives on the line.
It's not an effort to keep streams /cozy/. It's harmful.
But when you start using language like "I just want to not have to deal with it". Or "They can talk about it elsewhere.." you are making it clear that 1. You have the privilege to be able to disconnect (must be nice) and 2. Your /support/ is shallow at best.
As halloween approaches, I have some food for thought:
Dressing up is fun, and a way to express our love for the season.
However, please consider that dressing up using mental illness or disfiguring your body for the purpose of looking scary/funny has ableist undertones... /1
CW: fatphobia, diet culture, resolutions
As we get closer to "New Year's resolutions" time, I would like to remind everyone that you can in fact, set body centered resolutions WITHOUT dieting/weight loss being the goal. A 🧵 /1
If you're fighting to hold onto reasons why you think as an 'ally' you should be allowed to use the LGBTQIA+ tag on Twitch...
You're not an ally.
It costs zero dollars to just listen to us.
I really appreciate everyone that has weighed in on the Joe situation.
Just as a reminder since I'm seeing a lot of people default to 'she' only...my pronouns are "they/she" and I do prefer "they" first. Also love for them both to be used interchangeably.
Thanks friends 💜
So check this out,
You can be Hispanic or Latin and STILL benefit from white privilege over darker skinned Hispanic or Latin folks and other BIPOC.
As a lighter skinned afrolatinx, its vital for me to recognize the privilege that gives me over BIPOC with darker skin than me.
Well, I was officially diagnosed with Long C*vid today. There was no relief behind the diagnosis because we don't know nearly enough about it to do anything but "wait and see".
I'm tired, this is what surviving c*vid looks like for many.
Wear your fucking mask. Get vaccinated.
Not J*ff Br*tlag re blocking me after I refused to accept the copy pasta apology tweet that they sent in a message to all of the BIPOCS they blocked to "make sure we saw it".
Stay classy!
I'm really not liking all the hype around the new Dahmer series. Fanning for/romanticizing/obsessing over actual serial killers is not okay. Even if the show doesn't paint the killer in a good light, romaticizing them puts them on a pedestal which is exactly what they want.
I just got called a Black supremacist for saying you can't be racist to white folx (it's a system they benefit from).
Some of ya'll yt and NB folx are really upset about wanting to use a slur when no one is making you change your language and that's weird.
This is absolutely disgusting. Chloe you don't get to sit there surrounded by non trans folks and decide whether or not your space is safe for trans viewers. You don't get to say they shouldn't ("be allowed" since that's what you were originally going to say) to determine that.
As a cis woman, you’ve no right to tell someone who’s trans that it’s unfair they called your chat unsafe - whilst you hosted a panel of majority cis people and your chat made comments like this
@chlooeeeexo
behaviours a joke
You can implement boundaries. You can do things like set up safe words in your stream for when certain subjects get too heavy for the community or you as the streamer without having a no politics rule that shuts down any and all conversations deemed to fall under that category.
So at 2:30am you decided it would be a fantastic idea to pick apart my thread on fatphobia in our society and how to better set goals that don't contribute to the harm diet culture has done?
This is how you want to send 2022 off huh...
Joe, do you need a hug?
First, I want to give the biggest thank you to everyone that supported (in any way at all) my Kofi for living expenses over the past few weeks. This wouldn't of been possible without you all.
I waited until it was official, I sign and begin my new teaching contract next week💜
Old Navy, Forever 21....this ain't it. Stop making fat bodies feel bad for shopping fast fashion. Unless someone is forking over money for me to buy all my clothes "ethically" when we can't even thrift our clothes because straight sized folks think buying plus sizes is trendy.
CW: live streamed shooting discussion.
I find it pretty telling that he cares more about defending whiteness at every turn, than calling out abuse or in this case, a literal white supremacy driven terrorist attack. People who aren't racist, don't do shit like this. /1
As a fat non binary person, the idea of accessible, gender affirming wear in my size is a joy that we rarely see as fat folks, especially fat queer/trans/nonbinary people.
Representation matters.
Since people want to be actin' up and only acknowledge one aspect of my identity, I need to make this update to protect my peace.
Hi, I'm Lyrica 👋
My pronouns are THEY/she.
I am non-binary demiflux.
and I ain't nobody's ma'am.
If I see you retweeting, agreeing with or praising the people claiming taking the fatphobic imagery out of Taylor Swift's video was censorship or it's somehow invalidating your experience, I'm blocking you.
Everytime we equate fat = bad, we are hurting people.
Context aside.
@R3dAnt89
You are a racist.
"Your kind" shows just how much humanity you attach to Black folks and probably other POCs too.
Damn no purpose flour colonizers.
I've had nightmares about coming out to my family before...but atleast in those, I get to wake up.
Watching it play out in real life, in real time. I'm hurting. I know I deserve the love and freedom that comes with being who I am, but my family condemning me for it is painful.
I mentioned this in my circle earlier but think it's important to say here: If you're putting together a "scholarship/award" for marginalized folks, maybe don't force the nominees to do an unpaid charity stream then judge them on who did it best to see who gets the award...
The amount of people on here and Twitter in general saying that Taylor's imagery is fine because she's being vulnerable with her internalized fatphobia...
No. You do NOT experience internalized fatphobia as a straight sized person. It's just fatphobia. Y
When
@lizzo
had a word considered ableist in one of her songs, she apologized and fixed it. Thousands of disabled folks spoke about it. Same with Beyoncé.
But Taylor has fatphobic imagery and it’s “you don’t understand” directed at fat people?
🧐🧐🧐
If you aren't going to stream on the 1st for solidarity with the movement, please consider watching and uplifting the BIPOC streamers that will be live and addressing the same topic of hate and racism allowed on Twitch.
Especially if you don't stream on Wednesdays anyway.
And yes, he could of streamed it anywhere, but he chose Twitch. A site that stood back while countless Black folks were racially targeted, harassed, doxxed for months, while we were left to find our own ways to protect ourselves. Actions by platforms matter.
Joe, you can't hurt me.
There's already a 10 mins video on YouTube of someone picking this apart.
You were too late my dude.
I appreciate the fan behavior though. Keep it up and I might have to send you a bill.
So this is how we've decided to take accountability these days huh?
Its really so easy to take a second to listen and not speak over other BIPOC voices that are expressing that your words are hurtful.
I spent years calling myself an 'ally'
out of fear.
Out of religious trauma.
Out of not loving myself.
I want my life to be about celebrating me. Loving me.
Accepting me.
So, hello
My name is Lyrica. This is my first Pride being me and I am very Bisexual and valid AF.
🏳️🌈
Reminder that when you highlight features like rolls, stretch marks, a double chin, etc... as your worst or most undesirable traits (especially if you are a straight sized person) I need you to consider that you are equating fat to being bad.
That's fatphobia.
They and them are also pronouns because that's literally how language works.
We also have a LGBTQIA2+ flag up in my classroom and one the kid's get to play and interact with because teaching compassion, diversity, and about all identities is important. Stay mad. ✌🏽
@LookItsLyrica
The fact you’re teaching children is bloody scary.
The parents were terrified to identify you as a woman and use your biological pronouns because then you’d have the alphabet mafia go after them.
You’re a female woman, your pronouns are she/her because that’s how language works
@Imani_Barbarin
The way these "alternative med" MLMs go around making claims that they can 'cure or reverse' chronic illness or disability knowing it's a lie to turn a profit. The industry is huge and rife with ableism.
#KnivesOutSpoonies
Twitch and Buffalo NY both have a role in this and there is room to hold BOTH accountable because neither has done their job to protect Black folks or other POCs.
"Viewers want to interact with a streamer when they’re live and host mode blocks this from happening. Preventing viewers from interacting with the streamer they’re watching also limits a streamer’s growth potential..."
It's like
@Twitch
doesn't know how their own site works.
Some of ya'll white folks are more mad about being told to change your phrasing than you are about a Trans woman's life being taken.
If your rage and outcry depend on co opting, maybe stop to consider what that says about you.
I....
If someone uses a racial slur for ANY reason, it's racist.
Is...that confusing or?
I'm trying real hard to understand how you are making justifications for racism and slurs on the basis of competitive MP gaming.
@alesb0tt0m
@Brosephos
@LookItsLyrica
@itsJulesHardy
You're new to toxicity in competitive mp games, huh?
This has been a thing for years but has nothing to do with race, but sayikg crass things to you to get an advantage over you.
There is no happy thanksgiving. There is only:
FREE PALESTINE.
FREE SUDAN.
FREE CONGO.
FREE TIGRAY.
The media is counting on you forgetting this week.
DON'T.
I've been keeping a secret...
I am so excited to announce that I am one of It Get's Better's newest Ambassadors. I can't wait to share all the fun, exciting, and impactful things there are to come. Thank you for letting me be a part of such a truly amazing foundation and cause!
Well, we got hate raided lastnight. And thanks to NO help from Twitch, we were able to get things under control because of the amazing help and advice from other streamers and a 'panic button'. Twitch, your inaction, your silence, it speaks volumes.
#TwitchDoBetter
This is the privilege we talk about...when you can't even see that those politics directly connect to human rights and the ability for marginalized people to live their lives freely, safely, and without fear.
Here's the thing about telling content creators the solution to Twitch's platform decisions is to branch out to other social media:
It's not a feasible or accessible option for everyone, especially disabled BIPOC creators. I
• Not being allowed to eat the same meal or amount as my family.
• Harassment both online and off for simply existing in a fat body.
•Not being allowed to celebrate myself as I am.
Most of these are typical situations for a fat person. But THIS edit is the saddest for you?
Imagine ending 2022 pouting because as a white man you are convinced the phrases "caucasity" and "white people fuckery" are racist. Just take a moment to really imagine what it takes to die on that hill...now say it with me:
⚪️ PRIVILEGE.
Seems appropriate since the discourse is making it's way through Twitter again...
When a lot of marginalized folks in this space see "no politics" especially for the sake of a "drama free" environment, it only makes us feel unsafe, unwelcome, and unheard.
There seems to be this overarching theme that politics simply means which side you're voting for and not the more pressing civil/social/and human rights issues that effect us marginalized folks on a daily basis.
This has nothing to do with debating or allowing arguments.
Our pup Peter is in a life threatening state and needs immediate surgery costing $5500. It is much more money than we can afford and if we cannot provide the funds, they are suggesting euthanasia. I am desperately asking to help save him.
💜March is also Autoimmune Awareness month!💜
There are so many of us that deal with these chronic diseases, with women being around 80% of those diagnosed. It's often fought silently and with seemingly invisible symptoms to others, and constant medical battles.
@D_Houston11
@AshGotThis
And the worst part is that he has been fulltime for well over a year, and has worked across three different locations for them. He pretty much got told "You either take what we give you, or we'll give it to someone else". All to have a paycheck less than half what it was before.
@repwhores
@herestillqueer
@hutchleah
Too soft for things like standing up for human rights and standing against hate?
I'm sorry but especially as a very influential white woman with a large following, that's like the bare minimum.
As we are all finding out about the terrible tragedy in CO,
please protect your peace today. It's also okay to not be okay.
And PLEASE do not go into people's streams and announce what happened. This is such a traumatic event and our LGBTQIA2+ community is hurting.
