Kos didn't wash up on shore. Her corpse was LEFT ABANDONED on the coast after Gehrman killed her and stole her baby.
The idea of a whale fall is somewhat similar to the impact of Mother Kos washing up on the shore of Bloodborne's fishing hamlet, but dissimilar enough that it would be hard to say if it was a possible inspiration. Kos is more like a beached whale than a whale fall, really.

The Impaler's Catacombs is 100% not a reference.
Messmer's title as "the Impaler" is specifically "impaling lord", (串刺し公) the JP translation for Vlad Tepes' title. (it was also used for Earl Arstor in DS3)
The Catacombs is referencing the floor trap you can be impaled on.
It is very clear that the ghost is referring to the soulless demigod in the mausoleum. Messmer was likely never a thought when creating this ghost and its dialogue. The same may be true for the "Impaler's Catacombs." However, by nature of the open-ended structure of the story

The church spirit is the typical FromSoft nudge to go and get the thing you might otherwise miss. He is a tutorial, referring to one of many generic headless demigod remains we can find during our journey.
They are all unwanted; you can't pin any one as Messmer.

To clarify, "glintstone" is literally "brightstone" and the Japanese term for pyroxene/augite. Same term used in both Demon's Souls and Dark Souls II.
I feel like somebody at FromSoftware is a big geology nerd. Glintstone Sorcerers are referred to as "PyroxeneMagician" in their AI, with pyroxenes being a real life mineral group. The most common pyroxene is apparently Augite, which may sound familiar to fans of Demon's Souls.

Bellum Church is built in the place of Radagon's first major achievement: heroism in the First Liurnian War. What's odd is that there are golden centipedes lying around, and the church is connected to the highway not by dirt road but more highway - as if part of some major route.

In the case of the soulless demigods interred across the Lands, they are children of Marika assassinated by the Black Knives all around her empire. They have thus "come out wrong". The mausoleums are attempts to fix that, but until then, they are repulsive to the faithful.

Some people have asked why the Old Lord's Talisman only has four heads if Placidusax supposedly had five, and honestly, I don't know. One person even left a weirdly angry comment saying I was spreading disinformation, but the necks are very clearly labeled in the model data.

As much of a travesty the narrative is even after all the rewrites, the main problem with DS2 has always been its movement, controls, enemy spam/ambushes/despawn/AI, life gems, backstabs, etc. If it played more like DS1 or 3, I wouldn't have almost sworn off the series as I did.
Do you think people would be less negative towards Dark Souls II if the animations and movement were more in line with Dark Souls? They used a different animation middleware, one they likely had less experience with, which had a lot of impact on how the player moves and acts.

I really like how ER blends cosmic horror into its fantasy. It doesn't completely dominate the setting. Just sort of there, underneath the surface, undergirding the whole thing. Feels more inspired that way.
At first glance, the name "Elden Beast" sounds fairly simplistic, but the fact that, of all things, it's referred to as a "Beast" is actually fairly strange, and could have a more significant meaning than it seems.

DS2 and 3 should not exist. But if they must, better it be DS3. Introduced a cornucopia of amazing villains, expanded on past concepts, and brought country/character arcs to their natural conclusion. It is a reminder of the original's greatness without all the gameplay baggage.

periodically release new DLC than explore sequels. There is plenty in the existing world to still build upon, and the heart of the series is Martin's demigods.
If Bandai Namco and Kadokawa want Elden Ring to be developed as a series, I wonder what an Elden Ring II would actually look like. In practical terms, the map itself represents millions of dollars and years of work, so they'd likely want it reused, but that creates some problems.

Shaman, medium, spiritualist, sorceress are all common translations of 巫子, which can be synonymous with 巫女 used for your typical shrine maidens. (both use the kanji 巫 for diviners/fortune tellers) The latter is used for the Dragon "Priestess" and Finger "Maidens" already.
