They are so frequently violently attacked on their way to school by adult Jewish settlers that IDF have to escort them.

This is important to understand. Most Palestinians in #Gaza and the West Bank have never met a Jew that is not in army uniform carrying an assault rifle. Jew means violent soldier. When you grow up with that reality, understanding that it's not the whole picture is difficult.
I was born and lived most of my life in Gaza under Israeli occupation and siege. And this work by Jewish people is important and matters to us. I never met a Jew who didn’t want to harm, shoot at, beat, or prevent me from traveling until I was 36 years of age. Israel is not.

I've seen their therapeutic work with Palestinian children and teenagers traumatised by violent occupation and war. I've seen teenagers from Ramallah work with Norwegian teenagers and perform a piece.

@PeterBeinart @IhabHassane What he is saying is that IDF soldiers use specifically the Star of David to mark their presence in Palestinian schools and homes where Palestinians have been forced to flee. Last year, gigantic Menorahs were also raised inside Gaza for Hanukkah, which IDF soldiers celebrated.

In his childhood Obai experienced night raids where his father was brutally arrested several times. He could wake up in the morning to find his uncle arrested. His neighbour arrested. The neighbours son arrested. It was rare to know when or if they would come back.

The last time I saw Obai, he was around 14 years old. He wasn't home much for the time I was in Beit Ummar, there are obviously better things to do at that age. But he was home for dinner one evening.
