Not sure how to process non-Black middle and upper class people getting Juneteenth off, while Black poor and working class people don't.
This really has been sitting on my heart.
The media plays a role in the criminalization of poverty, & the stigmatization that surrounds the unhoused and here’s a great example of that. The question could be “Should it be legally required that all persons, including the unhoused, have access to clean restrooms?”
Happy Sunday! I don’t know who needs to hear this, but educational vouchers are racist and they defund our public education system. Vouchers were started by white parents who refused to send their children to school with black children.
🗣🗣 Absolutely freaking ridiculous that we have trigger laws to repeal abortion rights but don’t have laws that prevent triggers from being pulled in schools. These are the outcomes of MOLEG. The blood is on their hands.
A women will be voted out of office for a nude photo being released before a man is voted out of office for being a rapist. This is the reality of the culture and times we live in. We will never change what we can’t be honest about, the least we can do is acknowledge it.
New: The Cardinals are gearing up for a big ask for more public funding for Busch Stadium. The team president compares the potential scale of the project to two other franchises that each obtained more than $500M in public funds for stadium upgrades.
SLPS unanimously passed a vaccination requirement for our staff! This is such a critical policy to keep our staff, scholars, families and city safe! 👏🏾😷

you saw ur fave youngest public official in STL smack dab on the cover. My daddy told me to post this and tell y’all his baby girl is “the cover girl for policy” 😂💜 (I love that man)
Thinking of folks who celebrated MLK today while they are opposed to shelters in their communities on other days. Here’s a friendly reminder that MLK was assassinated on the brink of a anti-poverty campaign ✊🏽
I recently was having a conversation with a developer and out of nowhere, they asked, "How old are you?" I responded "That's irrelevant at this moment. How old are the taxes you owe the city?"
All of a sudden the convo ended.

This is probably a chaotic tweet but I actually really like canvassing. I find it to be extremely peaceful & it calms my anxiety because I’m tangibly doing something. Just the sun, my community, and direct political engagement. 🌞💜😌
Shout out & deep thank U 2 the kind man who gave me his jacket 2 shield me from the cold at an abortion rally I had the pleasure of speaking at. Just so happens that this man is running 4 Senate & has used his campaign 2 register 10K+ people 4 Medicaid. THANK YOU

Even when we had

with hundreds of folks and stayed for 6 days not a single arrest was made. Washu could do this & now is a great time to remember that they don't pay taxes.
This protest is so calm. Police response is completely unnecessary. Our Penn State anti-Iraq war protests were larger when I was I student, and not greeted with police response. So much for free speech.

Now that

endorsements are being rolled out & the questions are being asked I want to publicly share a truth most of us know: A nice portion of democratic elected leaders have no courage and put their personal relationships above wielding political power for justice.
“You’re causing division.”
Lol yes and yr point is? I have no desire to be aligned with rapist nor rape apologist. Very much ok with that line being drawn in the sand.
I feel so robbed. She would tell me all the time that I was just getting started, we were only in the beginning. Existing and living life and building power and navigating spaces and dynamics is not something I ever imagined I would have to do w/o her.
Calling residents who are dealing with an addiction “dope fiends” is absolutely unacceptable and gross. A reminder that addiction is an illness & the solution is treatment-which is grossly underfunded and thereby often inaccessible to those who need it most.
Officials in Missouri’s largest city are moving to declare it a sanctuary for people seeking or providing gender-affirming care, defying state officials who are intent on banning it for minors and restricting it for adults.

"Education needs something radically new and different." Yes, I completely agree. There is nothing radically new and different about private, for profit entities being the loudest voice at the table & setting the agenda. That's very pro-establishment and status quo actually.
If we funded SLPS how this city funds rich developers & multimillion dollar corporations evry one of our teachers could have a salary of $50K or higher, evry school could have SEVERAL social workers, we could offer free after care, free AP/college courses & 3 gourmet meals a day.
Tomorrow, I will stand alongside my colleagues and allies at a press conference to announce legislation that will support an Unhoused Bill of Rights. These bills mean a lot to me, and they should be important to all of us.
I’ve gotten several emails from people asking me not to support “arming teachers” and my goodness. Please know that you will NEVER hear or see me bringing this forth nor supporting this as a solution. NEVER.
Good morning 2 everyone except public officials who find their way 2 the north side to film ads for their political campaigns but advocate directly against policies in the communities interest. We see you. ☀️🤗
Yes and if we’re not careful & diligent our last 2 public goods of society-libraries & public K-12 education-will be capitalized/privatized and come with a price tags as well. Either of which would have a neg impact on society & disproportionately impact minority communities.
The super rich are using their money to buy all the power, and all the means to happiness. If they can’t buy happiness, they want to control ours as much as they possibly can.
We can’t get anything for free anymore. We pay for everything from healthcare to the water we drink.
The district is unable to locate about 3% of our students. We’ve called, we’ve emailed, we’ve went to homes and knocked doors directly & gotten no response. I bet those scholars and families could use $500.
I've collected a list of 54 names of folks who were arrested and given them to folks inside County CJC. I've been told booking abd processing will be happening quckly and folks will be released in groups. First group of 5 just released.
(1) This is a lie, stop speaking on what you don't know. (2) Don't use the killing of children as an opportunity to push your political agenda and score media points. People are literally dead and a community is mourning. This is gross and despicable. You should be ashamed.
Seven guards and metal detectors, but none of them were armed. Whoever made the decision that these guards not be armed let his or her anti-gun animus prevail over the safety of children.

Good morning to everyone except entities who PAY NO TAXES but somehow have the authority to sponsor schools that cost tax payer money. A great way for SLU to sponsor “social justice education” would be by paying their fair share and doing a payment in lieu of taxes. 🤷🏽♀️
Getting elected as result of a protest movement & then being quiet when peaceful student protestors are attacked, arrested, charged with crimes, & denied access to HOUSING & FOOD isn't an option for me. My introduction to community work was student organizing. I'm a always ride.
I see university students practicing their 1st ammendment rights..i hope that does not lead to Wash U or any other security/police entirty meeting them with restriction, arrest, nor brutality.
I had the pleasure of attending The State of The City Address and saw a room full of people dedicated undoing centuries of neglect, intentional disinvestment, systematic racism and making STL the STL that ALL St.Louisans deserve. Here are some of the highlights:
If you live in STL city, are 24 yrs or older, have a passion for public education, an equity/social Justice lens, and understand the importance and power of elected school boards and are interested in running for Saint Louis City BOE please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Thinking about how in many ways public schools are held more accountable than police…name another entity that we constantly dump $ into with no expectation or plan to evaluate the results of said investment? I know it’s certainly not public schools.
Imagine being Michael Brown’s parents & your President is giving a national address encouraging even more funding 2 the people responsible for your child’s murder. Imagine being a black person in the city where police r responsible 4 more killings per capita than any other of the
There is no place for respectability politics in the fight for liberation. I’m not following any rules that require my silence & obedience while those w power don’t invest in my community, and strip away my rights. I can’t both center my oppressors comfort & fight for liberty.
Don’t use this moment to criminalize children, or support yr anti-black lives matter agenda. Please, if you could allow the wound to heal, the blood to literally dry, and think abut what community support actually looks like that-would be great.
"From the last public records 250 vaccines have been requested for the entire state of Missouri..we have 8 confirmed cases..if the pandemic has taught us anything it taught us that we shouldn't wait for this to hit us."

It’s extremely easy to say that it’s SLPS failing children..what’s harder is to own that as a society we are failing children. That would take analysis and a real discussion on what children need to succeed-such as having their basic needs of safety, shelter, & healthcare met.
Sometimes you reschedule a meeting so you can go to an impromptu therapy session instead. Here's a reminder to normalize, de-stigmatize, and universalize mental health.
Respectfully, I disagree. R u living in the same America as me Senator? Did u not just c this country ban our constitutional right 2 choose 4 ourselves? The government is mandating pregnancy & yr calling 4 “classiness”? Classy doesn’t help us, now is time 2 b as vocal as ever.

Advocating for the defunding of one the largest (and Blackest) public school districts in your state because you’re staunchly “pro-choice” but when it comes to birthing people, being anti-choice, is not the flex you think it is.
It’s long bothered me that we have residents who have lost their homes for less than $1K, while developers can owe more than $100k in taxes & STILL receive public subsidies. We should ALL have the same rules & I’ve wanted a law like BB198 since my time on the Board of Education.
BB14 is absolutely heartless. I hope that every Alder realizes that apart of the unhoused population includes children & families-many of whom r beloved members of SLPS. We need leadership that focuses on solutions for there the unhoused CAN go rather than where they can’t.
“What do we do from here?” We do what we always have and what we should have been doing all along. We ride for ourselves. We call out the sexist, misogynist. anti-birthing bs for the bs it is. We build political power, and we don’t lose sight of what should be ours. We reflect.
Good morning to every1 but especially those who are working to get our unhoused neighbors at city hall connected to resources, to people holding the city accountable for dealing with our unhoused humanely, and to
@AlderSheenBean
who was up w me beyond 1am just like old times.☀️✊🏽
Today, I woke up as the Alderwoman-Elect of the Seventh Ward for the City of St. Louis. It’s been a challenging, growth-filled, heart-wrenching, and inspiring campaign trail and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat to earn the honor to serve as your Alderwoman. Let this be
Some media moves urgently 2 show a hyper violent image of downtown, especially as it concerns black people & black youth, but I guess Taste of Black St.Louis with lots of black people gathering, supporting black businesses, & vibing doesn’t fit the narrative so it’s met w silence
Today I will be resting & recharging. Over the next few months you will see me be much more vocal about my thoughts and you’ll get a major announcement from me. For now, tbh I’m laying in bed w tears in my eyes.
Just want to center that the entity that is at the biggest disadvantage from any entity and/or leader giving away TIFS/abatements unnecessarily are the 17,000 scholars and families of SLPS.
Being black is not a shield from accountability for sexual assault and/or rape. When I see black men attempt this it disgust me, and what’s more disappointing is other black man whose silence aids this.
Today I was officially sworn in 2 the Board of Education. To be a public servant at the age of 25 is nothing less than an honor. I’m honored to be joining rising new political leadership that is movement accountable + community centered.

Today, we as in
@SLPS_INFO
officially launched our campaign for Prop S, a no-tax increase $160 million bond issue that will be in the ballot Aug. 2. Tbh we should be ashamed of some of the conditions our young scholars have to learn in. SLPS is a historic institution..
Democracy is in trouble. And its not just because of the right wing billionaires..it’s also because of Democrats who will sell out the values of humanity and support the elimination of their own if it means they get a position of power. Yes, I’m talking about Wesley Bell.
The Democratic Party should separate itself completely from AIPAC & its supported candidates. Opposing both insurrection and genocide are basic political standards, and not holding such is a threat not just to American democracy, but to humanity around the world.
What
@SLU_Official
did tonight was crucial. We can't allow the normalization of the brutalization of students, faculty, nor community when 1st Ammendment rights are practiced. Academic institutions ought to be places that foster hard conversations and encourage critical analysis.
For clarity on priorities out of the 17K+ SLPS families and our 3K+ employees ,I have NEVER been asked about drag shows or performances by parents, scholars, or staff. I have, however, received endless Qs about what

& voting Yes on Prop S! I want 2 flex w my scholars on how much our city supports them & it’s time we show the political has beens/gatekeepers that it’s the people’s time now! C u @ the polls!
Defund these unnecessary tax abatement for billion dollar corporations & fund SLPS. We’re the 3rd largest employer in STL, constantly under attack & we’re an actual public good. I would love to c the 16 alders who voted yes today talk about how these projects impact SLPS 🤷🏽♀️
“We can’t afford to lose the Hilton brand downtown.” Said one of the alders in today’s meetings. Ok, can you afford to lose Saint Louis Public Schools tho? Because EVERY dollar you give away impacts us NEGATIVELY.
Also it seems hard for STL to understand but evry time someone disagrees with you it’s not because they represent “dark interest” or “dark $”. People disagree and the need to charge it to “darkness” often means we can’t bring the real issues and policy to the light.
Good morning to everyone but especially the person who will challenge and beat SR in his next state senate campaign! Putting this in the universe. 💜✨ 🌟
We do this thing in St. Louis when we have a problem, we lean into siloed, privatized systems that may temporarily solve the issue for a small group of folks but ultimately fail to solve the problem itself & instead create further systematic inequity. See: our policing system.
