Mum and English/ Media Studies and Latin teacher! Love reading, cinema, baking, calligraphy, football. FA1 qualified coach! Just gone back to maiden name 🙂
Offering Latin as sixth form enrichment class for first time. I photocopied 20 booklets being optimistic. Deputy head came to see me at lunchtime to give me final numbers...87!!!! I am being moved to hall to deliver lesson lecture style!! 😱
@classicsforall
After last year’s jaw-dropping 86 students for Y12 Latin enrichment, THIS year’s list is currently just over 100!!! 😱 So I’m back behind the lecturn in the hall. It is all a bit unbelievable!!
@AlexJQuigley
I don’t think you realise, till you have kids doing GCSEs, just how horrifically stressful they are for students. My daughter is on her knees this evening because she has Maths on mon and then chem and hist on Tues. Too much content 😩
Lying in bed with covid, trying to focus on positives. My highlight of the term was teaching 87 students beginners Latin in the hall each week! Have ended up with 44 wanting to continue and sit Entry Level after Christmas! 😍
Thank you for all your wonderful messages, likes and retweets a out the Latin! Taught my session this morning on the stage go over 80 students. Gave them option to drop out at end..only 3 decided it wasn't for them!! So am in the hall EVERY week from now on!
Signed off our first Latin Entry Level cohort yesterday! So proud that we’ve gone from nothing to 32 students in a year. Delighted with what they’ve achieved with limited teaching! 😍
@scriptwren
I left 4 years ago, divorced for one year. Same as you, financially so much worse off but emotionally so much better…feel like I’ve got me back. It’s hard but so glad I finally plucked up the courage.
I'm trying to use the lockdown to create a series of WOW slides for the different GCSE texts I teach, focusing on developing tier 2 vocabulary. Here's what I've done for AIC. Currently working on Macbeth and then J&H/ poetry. Help yourself:

I have been SUCH a domestic goddess tonight! Veg prepped for tomorrow. Ham soaking overnight and niche de Noel made.
@Nigella_Lawson
is totally my inspiration!!
@heawood
@AliceWickenden
Was recently at
@hayfestival
and the wonderful
@peterfrankopan
requested the first audience question be from a woman under 25 so that might encourage other women to ask questions so we didn’t just get statements from men! Huge respect!
So, been asked to introduce A Level Media Studies at my school from THIS September with a colleague! Excited and nervous in equal measure!! Any help/ advice gratefully received! 😊
So, I now have a new work title: I’m not doing anything new, just recognition for what I do. I’m now Teacher i/c Media Studies, UCAS Early Entry and Latin Co-ordinator!! A bit of a mouthful!! 😂🥰
So, chump that I am, woke up with the alarm, THEN double checked arrangements for inset day only to find I go back TOMORROW!! 😂😂😂 unexpected extra day with the kids 😊😊😊
My A Level Media students made me so proud today. Their Christmas task…to create a Christmas film poster that either confirmed to or subverted conventions. They had a blast and produced some brilliant stuff!! At one point I was crying with laughter! 🥰🎄
Lighter dinner tonight, with
@Nigella_Lawson
’s wonderful turkey, cranberry and pecan wild rice salad (made with poached chicken for extra healthiness!) This is so easy and delicious I don’t know why I wait till the festive period to have it!
We lost my lovely dad early Thursday morning . He played briefly for
@officialgtfc
in the 60s and as his Alzheimer’s was getting worse he would pore over his scrapbook from then reliving every game. Hoping to get to a match next weekend with
@matthutho
❤️
So today I had my first lesson with the Latin Entry Level class today…all 57 of them!! Still in the hall on the stage. Really pleasing and daunting in equal measure! 😃😬🏛
Despite having the usual last evening of the holiday grumps, I can honestly say I am a different person from the sad woman that ended last term. I have been to some beautiful places and reconnected with wonderful friends! Life is good 😊
@MissClarkeY2
My best friend at school died from a brain tumour. Day he died he had such a bad headache: tried to tell the teachers something wasn’t right. Offered to walk him home but he said he was ok. Died that night. Over 40 years ago now but I still mourn his loss 😢

In my marker training the principal examiner said the key words 'the writer thinks/ feels' really help focus the response. So I get students to write adjectives in the margin as they're reading the extracts then highlight the words in paragraph that show this. Has really helped.
Then a French teacher speaks to you at the end of the day to say one of her students made links between her A level French and what they did in Latin today and suddenly all is good! 😊 2/2
Today I was VERY decisive and bought a coffee table I like without my usual longwinded deliberating! Family is shocked! I am a little in love with it! 😉🥰
First day back of my phased return after long covid today. Managed to get quite a lot done- planning, Y11 reports and even managed
@markdixonmedia
’s excellent course on Van Zoonen and media from
@EngMediaCentre
. But totally shattered now and in bed already 😴
Day 2 at
@hayfestival
was lovely! We saw
@ClaireFuller2
which was brilliant (I think littlun might be inspired to read something by her!), read in deckchairs and watched an episode of Beyond Belief before reluctantly coming home 😢
Mother’s Day has reminded me what wonderful quirky children I have! Bodleian gifts from 14yo 🥰 and gifts for my new desk at work from 20yo 😂 Love them both dearly!
Tomorrow is my last Y12 Latin enrichment session to my 95 students in the hall! Christmas songs in Latin and a bit of Io saturnalia will abound!! Onwards to Entry level….which I suspect will see me return to the hall to teach the 50 who have signed up!
Lovely meal out tonight with my two fabulous children at local pub to celebrate bigun’s last night at home before his final push to finish his degree! So proud of him!
This afternoon’s job…photocopying and laminating all the pages of dad’s tattered scrapbook of his football days so he can handle them more easily 🥰
#Alzheimers
Just had a fab morning at the virtual Harrow summer school thanks to
@classicsforall
. My head hurts but in a good way, trying to get to grips with Latin grammar again! Looking forward to tomorrow.
@WoodlandTrust
Finally got to see this beauty this summer…it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a long time. So glad I got to experience it with my children…am so upset at today’s news 😭
First day volunteering at
@FndsofLetocetum
this morning. I was so nervous but it was really enjoyable: my fellow (much more experienced) volunteer was lovely and SO knowledgeable!
Been off since went home early and n wed with nasty cold. But braving it in today as it’s hard to set cover for 95 Latin students! Doing the Christmas lesson….io saturnalia! Wish me luck! 🤧
Eagle eyed colleague noticed I'd put 2 usurpers in my Macbeth WOW ppt (ironically!) and missed out nihilism which I feel is a reflection of my positivity! So the new ppt has replaced the old one and here's the link:
Another miserable day in bed ☹️ but I’ve made myself come down to sit on the sofa this evening. And the bright spot of the day was the choice of more great books on
@BorrowBox
which have gone straight onto my loans list 😊
