Dry January: I have a small store, around 2000 sq ft. My store cleared around $7k in December- after expenses, salaries, etc. This month, we look to make about $4k. For me, it’s not critical because my 9-5 pays the bills. But to a lot of mom and pop shops this is devastating.

My store is dead M-W until noon. Do you suck it up for consistency or do you shift hours on those days? When I say “dead”, we did $25 in sales until 10AM, and another $20 from 10-11. We lost money because we need about $100 in sales per hour JUST to pay employee salaries.

Credit card points: Made $3000 on credit card points by spending for the store. Spent $15500 on processing so y’all could use cards in my store. Does this clear up how credit cards could give you cash back and still make money, even when you pay the balance each month?

20%: The percentage of non-alcohol products you are allowed to sell in CO. Recently, I started selling the big bags of chips from Sam’s, we pay $4.48, sell for $6.79. I thought, “If they don’t move, I’ll mark them down to $4.99 in two weeks.”. I can’t keep them in stock.

Mostly finished my 2023 P&L for the store. With over $1M in sales not counting lottery, the store made about $73k after paying about $100k to employees. 1 FT, 2 PT. We then spent $8k on capital (2 new coolers, POS, printer), so the final number is about $65k. Have not figured

Worked the store yesterday. Made huge progress on the license plate inventory system. Store is crushing it. For the first 15 days of June, beer was up 27% and liquor was up 35%. Think I’m gonna take today off. Happy Father’s Day!!!

Final numbers for May: Overall sales up 15% Liquor up 32.3% Beer up 18.7% Cigarettes up 10.6% Wine was down 35% There is more to it, but this is the core biz. Gross profit increase by nearly $2k. I’ll take it.
