Utter devastation in Jasper. The calls of anguish I’m receiving are so difficult. I’m so sorry to tell you all, the next news you will receive out of Jasper is beyond devastating.
Starting to get some Jasper wildlife updates from JNP. This is Grizzly mama 222 who is tracked—-she survived the fire by tucking into a wet spot with her cubs on the Athabasca River… Now they’re eating clover and berries and chilling on the grounds of JPL. ❤️
So buying wine tonight and I get the “ Miss, can I see some ID? “… I giggle, blush & say, “ Dude, seriously, I could be your Mom.” Dude then looks at my ID. Looks up and says “ Nope, you’re older than my mom.” 😳😳😳😳
Brace yourself. This is a tough image to see of Jasper- Maligne Lodge. Same eyewitness says PetroCan/ Brightspot were hit. This was over half hour ago.
(Please note, I did not take this photo and was personally sent it under the guise the photo capturer wants anonymity)
Jasper is my haven. My escape. I have raised my kids here. Living in Edmonton—- but visiting every month to see auntie & uncle & all our friends since the boys were very young. Im not ready to tell them. It’s still so unreal. Like many, I feel just so numb.

This was at 21:15 tonight in Hinton approximately 8 Yellowhead county fire departments trucks with full crews onboard were heading to Jasper !!!!
To clarify… it was the Wildland (forest) firefighter crews who were asked to pull out of Jasper earlier… but the structural (urban) firefighters ( with proper respirators) remain behind actively fighting … crews from Hinton joined early in the fight. It’s possible urban fire
Chatting with residents in Jasper over the phone…they say ashes are falling from the sky. Gas stations are backed up, many voluntarily leaving now. Main fire at transfer station near Snaring has apparently jumped highway, Only safe direction out of town is further west on Hwy
It was a sleepless night for a lot of us last night. Not knowing what’s still standing. Not knowing if my sister still has a house. This waiting and unknown feels like purgatory. But the appreciation for the firefighters trying to save what they can is immense.
The Jasper townsite is still untouched and protected…crews are working hard to stave off the surrounding fires… the closest blaze approaching from north is now 5km away. Some structures believed to have been lost along Icefield Parkway- although too early and dangerous to
"Fire crews were witnessing 300- to 400-foot flames in a fully involved, continuous crown fire and a fire spread rate of approximately 15 metres per minute” - James Eastham, a Parks Canada wildfire information officer ( on when flames hit town yesterday)
My oldest has behaviour challenges. Yesterday he was “asked” to switch schools. He was devastated to be starting a new school alone. When his very popular 5 yr old brother heard the news, he didn’t flinch. “I’m coming with you,” he said “If they kick out you. They kick out me”
On my way home from work—- I saw 5 guys curb stomping an indigenous kid at circle k gas station. near Bayside Apartments . I drove my massive truck over the curb in the opposite lane and drove straight for the group. They scattered… cont
Gridlock getting out of Jasper last night. My brother-in -law manages the hospital… they are still evacuating patients and shutting down the hospital. My sister is with him, cooking and caring for essential workers. Hopefully they can evacuate soon.
This is my dad. He died three years ago. He spent much of his career as the head electrician/ instrument mechanic at E.L. Smith. He intricately knew the electrical at that water plant. I’m thinking of him big time… and how the city could really use him tonight. ♥️💦💧
So my boys think

At the request of the Province 2 apparatus with 8 off duty firemedics are now enroute to Jasper to assist with the valiant firefight going on right now.

Mouth open on the curb. No. But kicking and stomping while laying on cement. Yes. I wrote that immediately after experiencing that. Dissecting and criticizing my exact verbiage makes you look condescending and insensitive to the actual message.
Check this out… Idling my locked car for less than 10 minutes in my driveway to take my kids to school… But don’t worry… RCMP confirm it’s just the safety and idling police making sure my locked car surrounded by cameras can’t be stolen. 😏🤪🤨😳
Lost my dad three years ago, yesterday. 💔 He always taught me to be fierce, unfiltered and forgiving. Happy Father’s Day to all the men raising their daughters to chase their dreams and stand up for what’s real and what’s right. We love you. ❤️❤️❤️

No, Alex of the North… non-essential
and unskilled are not the same. Many doctors, lawyers and scientists are non essential in this crisis.

As long as they stay within the National Park- there is no hunting. But wonder if there will be any added protections if more wildlife starts showing up outside the park boundaries?

@wallissnow
put this story out very recently
While that townsite map is not official, there is video circulating now that proves it has credible merit . I have removed it because people are likely interpreting it wrong.
Please watch that video for anyone agonizing over the unknown.
Thanks for your replies to what I encountered last night. This city breaks my heart. Working downtown is draining. The dysfunction taking over is next level & it seems to be multiplying- sadly pushing productive people away from what should be our economic hub and heartbeat.
In the early days of French theatre, women were not allowed to perform on stage. As a result, young men and boys played female roles, donning women's clothing and makeup to portray these characters. This practice was common in medieval mystery plays and early Renaissance theatre.
@Lindsay_Warner
Don't know what your idea of french culture is but historically it has always been tasteful and noble. What was on tv yesterday was grotesque gay activism and very anti-christian. Fat gay men and men in beards pretending to be women? What has this to do with the Olympic Spirit?
Woah. Blast from the past.
10 years ago (exactly today) was my last time anchoring the late show at CTV Winnipeg. Soooo, I’m celebrating tonight by anchoring the CBC Edmonton late news. Join me at 11? 😜
