Actually, every generation of lighting is like this, but LEDs are the one you can watch happening in real time.
I remember early-adopter LED bulbs, they were... not great. Mid-late 00's I had a couple, REALLY expensive, and maybe 40w equivalent on a good day.

They were in the experimental, early-adopter phase, and made out of white 5mm indicator LEDs.

I noticed a downturn in quality around 2018 or so, when LED bulbs started to get lighter-weight feeling in the hand, and regained the annoying tendency to die quickly in enclosed fixtures and porch lights like the CFLs they replaced. You could still find decent ones though.

Big Clive's been dismantling LED bulbs since they hit market, and has been documenting the sharp decline in quality over the last 5 to 7 years or so. He goes into detail on how they suck, how to mod them to not suck, and what they could do better.

After that experiment, we stuck with CFLs for a long time before switching to LEDs around 2013 or so when they got good enough to actually be competitive.
Those ones were okay, but still looked kinda funky and most of those ones didn't survive to today.

By 2020 there were only a couple brands that had GOOD LED bulbs, at least in the higher watt-equivalents - even some of the name brands were getting bad.

We have now reached the end-stages of light bulb production, where they figure out how to make everything as cheap as possible, and make it so we have to buy more of them.

Look at any filament LED.
Count how many filaments it has.
Compare that to the power usage on the label.
If there's more actual watts than there are filaments, that bulb's gonna die in 6 months or so.

The "golden era" CFLs my family has almost ALL still work, more than a decade later, the golden-era LEDs are doing fine, but I can put a brand new LED bulb from a name brand in a fixture next to a 12 year old CFL and the LED bulb will be the one that goes flickery in 6 months

Only problem, and the way around this one, is that if you scream hard enough, cover your ears, turn away from it, run, etc. you can usually overpower the purposely-fucky feedback with legit feedback, since the amplification's linear but sound dropoff at distance is logarithmic.

USPS master "arrow keys" use a warded lock - the KEY determines what LOCKS it works in, instead of the LOCK determining what KEY.
You can easily just make a skeleton key that works in ALL of them by shaving all the unused warding off of a key for a similar lock.
