🎉🎊Congratulations to @Thevenny on their successful bid in Round 2 of the #PeopleZones Grant Fund 2024 / 25 that will support their #LittleAdventurersPreSchool grow from strength to strength 🎊🎉 With limited affordable options in #NewParks, "local families support the opening of the pre-school provision as it will be filling an early years gap within the community… the gap in development between children and their peers is substantial if they do not attend early years' education…" 🌳 One parent told us "I would love my daughter to come here as we are stuck in a flat with no garden or anywhere to play, the outside space is brilliant" 🚸 The pre-school will accommodate children aged 2+ years and once children are in Yr. 1 they will be able to attend The Venny during term time & during school holidays, meaning they will now have provision for children aged 2-14-years-old With employment also being an issue in the area, this project aims to employ local people wherever possible, with all the necessary training & qualifications available as well. Having safe and affordable childcare available gives parents and carers more opportunities across the board to develop their employment possibilities. We previously highlighted that awareness of #PeopleZones has been a challenge for us & this has also had an impact on the progress of some grant funded projects. We want to work closer with these projects, lending our ability to support whilst maximising their community expertise Steering groups are a hotbed of collaboration but could be used to greater affect by more of the community to make sure they are more focused on individual needs. They are well attended by local authorities & organisations, but this can sometimes take away from the community led ethos of People Zones We'd also love to celebrate more of the great work you've done across your communities & will be starting work to mark this more often, including more opportunities to work with representatives of other People Zones to co-produce processes that work for you Quite a big barrier we have faced along the way is a negative perception of politics & the police. Alongside some flourishing grant funded projects in the #BellFoundry #PeopleZone, "residents were pleased that #PeopleZones had enabled street improvements like the alleyway clean-up, where a knife was recovered… there has not been a return to the same levels of #ASB as existed prior to the intervention" The biggest issue for local residents remains drug & alcohol related crime, which is difficult to address. Our youngest #PeopleZone covers two areas in North West Leicestershire, #Thringstone & #Whitwick Although there have been some organisational & geographical issues along the way, things are "showing promise" particularly with the "positive effect of projects on improving community spirit & increased involvement" With improved relationships with North West Leicestershire Police, which was a huge help with recent @CrimestoppersUK campaigns around #ASB & illegal motorbiking, there's even been a reduction in crime, people are feeling safer & are now more likely to report crime Some of the other impacts we've seen include: 📷 "The #MiniPolice programme has inspired adult ambassadors, spreading a positive message about the Police to homes 📷 Improvements to key community hubs 📷 Strong connections developed between This Is NWLeics & the steering group 📷 A pipeline of #CommunityPayback projects, including #CommunityOrchards 📷 A thriving relationship with local school communities Of course, "more work still needs to be done", so if you want to play a part in YOUR People Zone, get in touch with the team today #Whitwick #Thringstone #BellFoundry

Our #NewParks #PeopleZone, reports to there being "a marked difference", with focused work happening in key parts of the area, such as the Aikman Avenue 'Burns' Flats With a determination to setup tenants associations & get the community involved, people are optimistic as they are seeing things happening & know where to go for their individual support needs. This has brought about a positive perception of People Zones due to the role we've played in collaborating with them to support their overall sustainability "It has given organisations confidence in making decisions & they are being listened to by big organisations" There are also improved relationships with West Leicester Police as well, which really helps community tensions. #PeopleZones love being involved with projects that actively support #LocalCommunities, and our #CommunityPayback projects to date have done just that, having "a direct impact on improving the environment for residents, including litter picking, gardening, and maintaining playgrounds" Up to January 2024, 71 #PeopleOnProbation had taken part in a People Zone Community Payback project, totalling 1, 717 hours, and beyond that, there have been teams constantly in place in #Thringstone, where ex-offenders have also developed skills in coppicing, something that will be repeated annually There's generally been a really optimistic feeling around these projects across the People Zones and the positives it brings the community Community Payback goes way beyond just getting offenders to litter pick.
