LMPD has released a bunch of previously redacted documents from the Scottie Scheffler arrest.
here's the "injury" to the knee of Detective Bryan Gillis... and the infamous $80 pants.
investigative report claims Marvin Bagley's family went from bankrupt with family income of $44K to living in $750K+ mansion after Nike started sponsoring his AAU team.
I love Federer but Djokovic has a lifetime winning record against BOTH Roger and Rafa and just beat Nadal in Paris! seems like
#GOAT

random research: in past 16 NCAA Tournaments, Duke basketball has been 1 or 2 seed 12 times. despite that they've made it past the Sweet 16 only 4 times total. FOUR in last 16 yrs! yes there are two titles in that span, but the underachievement in other years is epic.
of Kentucky football's 9 wins this year, ONE came against a team with a winning record: 6-5 Chattanooga, an FCS team.
UK played three FBS teams that had regular season winning records... Cats went 0-3.
Some personal news: After 16 years doing sports talk in Louisville, I’m saying goodbye to radio, returning to TV to be a full-time News Anchor for
@SpectrumNews1KY
. I’ll miss everyone at
@ESPN680
but the future is so bright at Spectrum. My last day on
#TheMiddayRush
is Friday.
if I'm UofL, I throw all my resources at trying to get:
1. Scott Drew
2. Kelvin Sampson
3. Eric Musselman
they are all much better candidates than Kenny Payne. you make them say no before you turn to him.
P.S.- "former players want him" is dumbest reason EVER to hire a coach.
just wanted to point out that UK President Eli Capilouto has a Masters in Epidemiology and a Doctorate in Health Policy & Management (from Harvard).
so IF the SEC plays, it's not like they don't have leadership who should have an understanding of the issues.
everyone in CBB agreed that Duke had "the most talent" right? it was a nearly unanimous consensus. yet:
- didn't win ACC reg seas (4 games behind winner!)
- didn't win ACC Tourn (or even make final)
- didn't get 1-seed
- didn't make F4
but yeah nat'l media keep worshipping K 🙄
with all the "most watched college basketball game in 5 years" posts... you may be asking "what was the game 5 years ago that had more viewers?"
19.6 million watched Virginia beat Texas Tech for the NCAA title in 2019.
no NCAA game has matched that since.
#wahoowa
I'd like to apologize to David Padgett for the criticism I gave him during his tenure as a rookie head coach. he looks like John Wooden compared to right now.
I stopped this vehicle today for a left lane violation on I-65. The driver had approximately 20 cars slowed behind her because she would not move back to the right lane.
Again...if there are vehicles behind you, you must move to the right lane to allow them to pass.
Bobby Petrino fired at UL. AD Vince Tyra in release: "I did not have the confidence that it was going to happen next season without a change and it needs to start happening now. We expect to determine a new head coach soon to restore our football program to national prominence.”
I want to give
@CoryAlexanderVA
a break because he's a fellow Hoo, but his Kenny Payne takes were embarrassing.
"KP year 2 = Tony Bennett year 2" was the dumbest & most inaccurate analogy ever.
'It takes 3 yrs to rebuild a program' was ridiculous.
& blaming fans is absurd.
🤦
whether it's Wiseman or getting rid of 1-and-done, I don't understand "ohhh college hoops is doomed if best players don't play."
you don't watch NCAABB for the best talent. heck G-League players > NCAA & no one watches that.
you watch NCAA for other reasons & they won't change.
"Louisville paid $100K for a player" was the single most misreported thing in sports in 2017. adidas paid & $19,200 was the actual amount that changed hands. note that I'm not defending UofL in any way... but wow the number of people who don't know the facts is staggering.
This angle has been lost in the Scottie stuff... but big name PGA Championship golfers decided to WALK A HALF MILE to the course because traffic was so bad.
Just an insane day.
Calipari on Chris Mack: "I feel bad for he and his family. Coaching is a hard profession. We're all 30 days from bankruptcy. Everybody in this profession. So I feel bad for him." But he thinks U of L athletics will be fine. "It's an outstanding athletic program."
This is what the blunecks gave our head coach for a postgame interview. The level of disrespect is reaching epic proportions. If I were Satterfield I’d frame this pic and place it in my office for daily motivation.
IDK who Louisville will hire as coach... but do NOT go after "guy who has a hot run in NCAA Tournament".
there is nothing dumber than choosing your coach based on a couple random weeks.
Watching UK continue to brag about the year they went to a bowl with a 4-6 record will never not be funny.
"8 year bowl streak! *
* one of those years we had a losing record and went only because they let literally ANY team go, but don't mind that."
🤣
🤦
random research: Mark Stoops is 1-23 at UK as double digit underdog (the win was UofL in 2016). 19 of the losses were by 10 or more.
as 10-15 point underdog, he's 0-16 straight up, 4-12 ATS.
the "UK can pull off the upset" talk flies in the face of historical trends.
I have been OVERWHELMED by the kindness of everyone during and after my last show. From listeners to fellow media (we ran out of time to play all the nice messages) to my fantastic co-workers at
@ESPN680
. What a special day! THANK YOU so much to all.
national ranking of last three defenses Louisville has played:
- Florida St
#118
- Boston College
#121
- Wake Forest
#88
national ranking of next three defenses Louisville will play:
- Clemson
#3
- Virginia
#11
- Miami
#18
UK Football State of the Union according to
@vincemarrow
"I’m not saying we’re Alabama or Ohio State, but we’re damn near close."
via @
@justthecatradio
UofL choking vs UK really screwed FSU.
Louisville win would've:
- made ACC 7-3 vs SEC
- taken away SEC's best non-conf win
- meant FSU win over UofL = top 10 victory
(although I suspect FSU still would've gotten hosed. Committee's SEC bias runs so deep that facts don't matter)
If ESPN went standalone & charged $30-40/month as some predict, they'd quickly find out how limited the hardcore sports audience really is.
Sure there are some who would pay anything... but IMO that number is much smaller than you think.
Would be a fast reality check, a la CNN+
Also, this isn't a knock on Louisville, but reality: They have real problems that need to be addressed. No point guard to initiate the offense, no scorers besides Jordan Nwora. Not saying it can't be fixed. But they're not a very good basketball team right now
PERSONAL NOTE:
Happy 20th Wedding Anniversary
@CarolynMcLean1
!
For those of you who wonder what your boy looked like back in the day... this is from the night I proposed. Now we've been married two decades. Wow.
I remember being here when the UofL fan base completely gave up on Kragthorpe after a loss to Syracuse. He then coached an entire season with fans just hating him.
Twitter tonight is giving me a serious case of deja vu.
Levis draft projections are the most absurd thing I've ever seen.
scouts are so consumed with "potential" that they literally ignore what actually happened in games.
if I were a fan of team considering him, I'd be tearing my hair out.
The Jurich folks monumentally overestimated residual worship for TJ. They thought email would lead to mass support & instead it got mass criticism. Oops. Now it's time to walk it back.
But his message didn't "get lost". It was loud & clear. It was simply dismissed by UofL fans.
the revisionist history of Mack's tenure to try and pump up Payne is so interesting to watch.
there's no doubt that Mack screwed up the Dino Gaudio thing BADLY and everything went to 💩 after that, but the idea that he cratered the program and KP had to "rebuild it" is absurd.
Payne’s first team had 11 scholarship players and 9 of them were 4 or 5 star recruits.
Mack’s first team had a former walk-on and transfers from Richmond and Samford playing major minutes. Ryan McMahon was the returning leading scorer on that team.
People just make stuff up…
My column: Was what happened with UK basketball this year a 'one-off' caused by pandemic disruption or does it reflect deeper, concerning trends impacting the program?
Florida's loss as 24-point favorite makes it even more clear that Ohio St shouldn't be given the benefit of the doubt for games they aren't playing.
the Big 10 bungled the season from the jump... and OSU should pay the price. keep them OUT of the playoff.
BBN buying in exactly like UofL fans did with Kelsey.
And just wait until after the Pope press conference: they'll really be on board. Just like UofL.
UK acts like they're different but the two coaching searches and accompanying fan reactions are basically the same.
(more)
@JackPilgrimKSR
I don’t know how anyone isn’t excited for this moment. The last few days have been a lot to digest, but we now have someone in the drivers seat that loves the program as much as we do. Cal coached the program for money, self promotion, and recognition. Pope is going to do this
Apparently I'm the only person in America who thought that was a good call.
Watch it in LIVE SPEED: UConn player clearly moves into path of defender without being set & bumps her off her line.
Bad timing? Yes.
Bad call? No.
I'm used to being contrarian so what else is new..
SEC basketball currently has 9 of 14 teams with losing league records. kenpom predicts only 4 teams will finish w/ winning conf record. in non-conf play, the entire league COMBINED has 6 top-20 kenpom wins. but this is league some are saying is "best"? please stop.
FYI- sports gambling in KY can't start until June 28 (90 days after session adjourns). then language in bill says it must begin within six months of effective date of Act.
bottom line: wagering on sports should be legal in Kentucky sometime between June 28 & December 28.
👍
The NCAA probation decision also involves UK swimming for running unsanctioned practices during Covid
The UK Football part of probation all stems from the 11 players who worked at UK Healthcare but didn’t clock hours
Pro tip: when ordering pizza for a group, just get cheese and pepperoni. THAT'S IT. THOSE TWO. NOTHING ELSE.
You'll satisfy 90% of people that way.
The wacky one w/ peppers & olives & whatnot never gets eaten. This is from last night 😂
I offer this advice as a public service.
here's what I don't get: KP says he's "building a culture"... but his defenders who blame the players say UofL needs total roster turnover for next year.
if that happens, any alleged "building" goes away because he has to start over again!
so this year is essentially pointless?
It's all dumb, but absolute dumbest part is people justifying w/ "oddsmakers would rank these four over FSU".
Oregon was 10 pt favorite over Washington just two days ago! How'd that work out?
Point spreads do not predict outcomes.
Today was an embarrassment for the sport.
🤦
this is silly.
the best way to "support his brothers" is to PLAY IN THE GAME!
note: I have *no problem* with opt-outs... you gotta look out for
#1
. but let's not praise those who do it as being "team guys" because they show up for the game 🤦♂️
doing some Mark Stoops research and found an odd stat.
UK's offense was ranked 103rd in the nation in 2017.
then they were ranked 103rd in the nation in 2018.
their rank through eight games this year? 103rd.
at least he's consistent.
Anyone who thinks
@UKFootball
season is over because Terry Wilson got hurt is sadly mistaken. Sawyer Smith
@smittyyy22
can play, OLine is best in years, run game solid and receivers rounding into form right on cue.
@UKCoachStoops
has built a program, not one good team.
Unless "current" is defined as last 10 years, this is wrong.
There is no stat where Virginia isn't better than UK in last 5 years.
Last 5 years, UVA has more wins, more road wins, more wins vs ranked, more NCAAT wins, more F4 & a national title.
To me that is "current".
You could make a strong argument that the five best current college basketball programs are Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas and Villanova
Four of those teams will be in the Final Four. And then there’s us
When does football start?
Michigan players being interviewed now. asked "do you know anything about the state of Montana?". Charles Matthews: "all I know is that it's on the West Coast". 🤔
Notre Dame lost by 20 at home to The Citadel last night.
compare this reaction to KP pressers after UofL's humiliating losses.
similar messages re: culture, but expressed very differently.
Notre Dame HC Micah Shrewsberry on the 65-45 loss to The Citadel:
"If you don’t play hard, then you sit and rot on the bench... I’ll go and talk to people in compliance. I'll help you transfer. This culture is getting built the right way. If you ain’t a part of it, you’re out."

college sports continues to get less fun.
the headlong rush to simply accumulate money is ruining the tradition and rivalries that make the sport unique.
oh well. they'll keep chasing the dollar... and I'll keep getting less and less passionate about what I once loved.
