the revisionist history of Mack's tenure to try and pump up Payne is so interesting to watch.
there's no doubt that Mack screwed up the Dino Gaudio thing BADLY and everything went to 💩 after that, but the idea that he cratered the program and KP had to "rebuild it" is absurd.
Payne’s first team had 11 scholarship players and 9 of them were 4 or 5 star recruits.
Mack’s first team had a former walk-on and transfers from Richmond and Samford playing major minutes. Ryan McMahon was the returning leading scorer on that team.

There is no stat where Virginia isn't better than UK in last 5 years.
Last 5 years, UVA has more wins, more road wins, more wins vs ranked, more NCAAT wins, more F4 & a national title.
To me that is "current".
You could make a strong argument that the five best current college basketball programs are Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas and Villanova
