@AFOjanguren If there is a human approaching they have to unload. But, as is the case in most of Asturias, and evident in your photo. It’s a bendy road, so how can they see you coming? Same on our footpath, where they used to stand, it’s a blind bend.

@davidelement1 I am intrigued how much energy they use hovering. Last week it repeatedly hovered, a lot, without much success. This morning I watched it dive (no otter) and catch 2/3 attempts. I think there’s a correlation, at least here, with using otter to help in murkier water conditions.

@davidelement1 Really interesting. I’ve seen the egrets do it here with the otters. And kingfishers do it with Giant Otters in Brazil too.

This autumn why don’t you head out to Asturias to join @samleesong & myself on a journey into the mountains, to the sea and around Wild Finca. Getting in touch with nature.

@patrick_barkham @curlewcalls I remember back in the day @chamiltonjames did a very scientific study on kingfisher speed for Halcyon River Diaries and they’re surprisingly slower than they look. Slower than a Robin though, who knows.

@ArabellaSock The issue then is they really do see no value in the wolf (or other wildlife), so it validates their stance. This ironically is a small, yet powerful, minority of people doing this to the natural world.
