Hello! I'm Jade King, and I thought I'd put together a pinned tweet thread compiling some of the most interesting and rewarding work that I've done over the past few months.
A good way to ground myself and show people what I'm all about 🙌
Yet another ICYMI: I sat down with
@EurosLyn
to talk about his experience directing
#Heartstopper
and working alongside
@AliceOseman
to bring this adaptation to life.
Covering queer stories like this is one of my favourite things about this job ❤🏳️🌈
Backlash to The Game Awards has been so extensive this year because we had a foolish hope that after twelve of the best months in gaming history, in which many of those responsible for bringing them to life have been subject to hardship, there was a chance Keighley might (1/4)
Thanks To Them is spectacular, and a worthy opening act for
#TheOwlHouse
's final season.
It has so many heartwarming moments, emotional stakes, and cool surprises.
@DanaTerrace
and the crew absolutely killed it.
Here's my full review:
In this piece I explore the historically tiresome relationship Hollywood has with animation and the opinion that it's a medium only for children.
Time and time again that's been proven otherwise but we're still having the same debate.
Had an insightful chat with
@SpencerWan
about Studio Grackle, the Hades 2 reveal, and his work on The Owl House.
My bad for making you get up with jetlag, and keep an eye out for the interview next week! 🙇♀️
Yes we talked about the hair flick.
"There comes a time to say goodbye to everything, no matter how hard it might seem to face the music. The Calamity Trio does, and are so much better for it."
My thoughts on the
#Amphibia
finale alongside the farewell of Anne, Sasha, and Marcy.
BONUS CONTENT: Today I also put together this smaller piece where we dove into the current state of animation right now and some of the lessons learned from helming a show like
#Amphibia
.
Lots of cool insight 🙌
I had to step up and defend my girls.
#gundam
Suletta and Miorine aren't gals being pals, and stating a queer relationship is open for fans to interpret is arguably more hurtful than denying it completely.
It won’t change, and Keighley needs to pick a lane that doesn’t boil down to telling GOTY winners to hurry up and stop giving tribute to late devs so he can show another trailer for a game that won’t be out for several years. It’s so embarrassing. (4/4)
- care, or at least have enough of a moral compass to put aside rubbing shoulders with celebrities or earning thousands from marketing reveals to actually celebrate the medium which he claims to champion. Instead, the disparity is worse than it’s ever been.
(2/4)
I rewatched the
#Amphibia
finale last night and the Calamity Trio space battle is such an endearing, satisfying, and anime-infused delight to watch unfold.
Put together a little piece on this moment that refuses to leave my head.
I recently sat down with
@Radrappy
to talk about Amphibia Season 3, animation during the pandemic, and Anne Boonchuy's heritage.
So much cool stuff in here that I'm so chuffed to share. Bring on the premiere later this week!
I try and avoid being cynical about my line of work so I don’t completely self destruct, but it’s hard to feel any positivity at all when this medium is held hostage by a ceremony focused on hyping up what comes next while never taking a second to see how far we’ve come. (3/4)
It seems the E3 portal only has "he/him" pronouns on the notifications system and nothing on the user end to change it - so being misgendered with my hot new announcements is fun.
Here's my review of Marcy's Journal: A Guide To Amphibia from
@Radrappy
,
@AdamColas
, and
@CatSukiman
.
This was so much fun, and adds way more to the world and characters of
#Amphibia
than I ever could have expected.
Ahead of its release tomorrow I got all emotional with
@Gingerhazing
about
#Nimona
.
We touch on the fragile beauty of the film’s message and how it will not only change lives, but potentially save them.
I’m proud of this one ❤️
Two episodes in and Dead End: Paranormal Park is delightful.
It’s funny, imaginative, and filled with valuable representation and worthwhile lessons for young queer people.
@hamishsteele
and company really nailed it - expect some words from me on the show tomorrow! 🏳️🌈
Ahead of the
#Amphibia
finale I sat down with
@Radrappy
to talk about the world, characters, themes, shipping, JRPGs, and a whole bunch more.
This was so fun! Not sure I'll ever grow tired of exploring shows like this, especially for ones this special.
A few more to come before my holiday starts, but here’s a piece celebrating Camila Noceda and how she embodies everything LGBTQ+ kids deserve when it comes to supportive parents.
We stan a mother like her 🙏

It seems the E3 portal only has "he/him" pronouns on the notifications system and nothing on the user end to change it - so being misgendered with my hot new announcements is fun.
ICYMI: Last week I had so much fun chatting with
@Radrappy
ahead of
#Amphibia
coming to an end. We talk about what to expect in the final episodes, the Calamity Trio, and a whole bunch more.
I had the pleasure of sitting down with
@snarklator
to talk about bringing life to Luz Noceda in
#TheOwlHouse
, geek out about Lumity, and touch on why this show means so much to so many people.
To mark the coming anniversary of
#Amphibia
's finale I sat down with
@Radrappy
to look back on how it all ended, the massive success of Marcy's Journal, and where things go from here.
@cissyspeaks
@snarklator
These might already be out there but here's a couple of screenshots from the special provided for reviews. God the vibe of this whole special is really something.
Marcy is so poggers, so here’s a piece on how the journal allows her to break free from her insecurities and embrace the person she’s always wanted to be.
#Amphibia
After playing the first three hours of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, I can honestly say it's one of the most fascinating things I've seen this year.
Such a cool mixture of narrative and strategy elements. Also it's Vanillaware so obviously it's gorgeous.
Here's my full interview with Carla Tassara on her role as Judy Alvarez in
@CyberpunkGame
.
Such a fun, fascinating piece to put together on a character that means a lot to me.
I have so much I want to cover after Thanks To Them, but wanted to start with a piece on how
#TheOwlHouse
handles grief from a multitude of perspectives. In spite of everything, Camila does all she can to keep her and Luz together.
#TOHSPOILERS
I sat down with Kazuki Hosokawa of
@RGGStudio
to talk about Lost Judgment, Yakuza: Dead Souls, and working together to achieve a worldwide launch during the pandemic.
Really chuffed with this one.
@SEGA_Europe
My brother with terminal cancer wants to surprise his son with a gaming PC/laptop but his budget doesn't stretch very far.
Because of this and it likely being the last one they'll spend together I'd love to help them out. If you're in the industry and can help let me know!
I spoke with
@MollyOstertag
about her career, finding comfort in queer media and her new book - The Girl From The Sea.
A fairly beefy read I'm really chuffed with, love delving into things like this.
Check it out!
MORE BIG NEWS: So later in March I'll be joining
@thegamerwebsite
as Features Editor.
It's been amazing watching the site grow and how much great reporting it's doing, and I'm so excited to join and work with the team. Expect plenty of cool stuff from me soon!
Hey all! Happy venba got so much attention tonight. We didn't win but I wanted to share my short speech that I would've said:
"Thank you tga for giving me this platform and I want to use it to call for complete ceasefire to stop the ongoing genocide in Palestine..." 1/2
I touched on the discourse about girls “graduating” from animation and how this mindset not only disrespects the medium, but fails to understand an audience that isn’t being properly represented thanks to outdated corporate ideals.
They deserve better.
#Cyberpunk2077
is a triumphant RPG from CD Projekt Red with a striking world to explore, but undermines itself with misogynistic writing and an underwhelming narrative.
Here's my review, where I explore gameplay, trans issues, exploration and more.
I wrote a little piece on
@spop_caps
and how it perfectly encapsulates the joy of a fandom years after a show reached its end. Such a treat to watch unfold.
The daddy persona of Pedro Pascal is innocent fun on the surface, but after rejecting interviews to read thirst tweets and lean into his own sexualisation it warrants a wider conversation on the issues of consent in celebrity culture.
Some words on it:
Ahead of Marcy’s Journal I wrote about the fandom’s embrace of shipping and queerness, especially in the wake of my initial coverage.
Got a couple new details and analysis to clear the air, since accusations of queer baiting are a bit silly.
#Amphibia
I sat down with
@ZachBarack
to talk about his character Barney Guttman in Dead End: Paranormal Park, his role in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the struggles and triumphs of working as a trans actor.
Such a fun and inspiring chat.
I also noticed a surprising amount of queer rep across
#FF7R
, albeit not amongst the main cast. Within towns I was frequently stumbling across queer couples talking about their lives and relationships in a way that felt so cute yet natural. I have a piece in the works!
Earlier this week I sat down with
@cissyspeaks
to talk about her role as Lilith Clawthorne in
#TheOwlHouse
.
We talk her performance, relationships, the fandom, and so much more. Chatting with the actors behind this show is always a treat. 🦉
One cisgender white girl apparently cries on a stream playing Hogwarts Legacy and it makes headlines.
Thousands of trans people are told to kill themselves for speaking out and the reaction is mostly silence.
Cool to see.
Just please speak to actual trans people about things like this. The fact you aren't is bigotry in itself, believing you can speak for us and decide our rights in a country that is making it increasingly difficult to exist in with dire healthcare, harrassment, and so much more.
I’m late but here’s a little piece on She-Ra’s fourth anniversary and how the show means so much to so many people. Gay catgirls hit different.
#SheraandthePrincessesofPower
Just finished For The Future and I can’t wait to write this one up. Far too many words alongside a full review coming later this week.
#TheOwlHouse
So sad to know there’s only one special left!
This piece ended up being huge but it's a good one I promise 🦉🏠
Me,
@cissyspeaks
, and
@snarklator
talk
#TheOwlHouse
, fandoms, Florida's Don't Say Gay Bill, and the evolution of Luz and Lilith's relationship.
I'll have a more detailed piece on a certain storyline coming out later this weekend because it's heavy into spoiler territory, then maybe something next week before I go on holiday until November. Gotta get my fix in before behaving myself and actually relaxing.
Last week I spoke with Jennifer English and
@Devora_Wilde
about their roles in
#BaldursGate3
.
We talk queer representation, romantic intimacy on the mo-cap stage and why Shadowheart and Lae’zel are both such morally fascinating characters 🐉
The people making the big decisions in this industry have no idea how it works nor what people want.
But this shit will keep on happening and good people will suffer because of it.
Daily Mail tracking down the deadname of a murdered trans girl and deciding to publish it is probably the most abhorrent thing I’ve seen in a while. Rancid fucking rag of vile, bigoted hate.
I’ve written about She-Ra and what the show and its community means to me a bunch, although I didn’t find time to put something together for today.
#SheraandthePrincessesofPower
#catradora
Here’s an old piece but a good piece:
Once
@cianmaher0
flies the nest I'll be taking over as Lead Features Editor over at
@thegamerwebsite
.
I'm being given too much power but I'm so excited to help shape the site's vision even further alongside an incredible team.
Big shoes to fill so let's smash it! 🙌
BIG NEWS: I'll be leaving
@trustedreviews
in March after almost four years. Time goes by so fast, but I've loved my time with such a fantastic team.
It's going to be a bittersweet goodbye, but I'm moving onto new things that I'm really excited to talk about soon.
The Legend of Pipi is incredible and you all need to watch it.
I put together a little piece on how fun, creative, and filled with love this short film manages to be. Such a delight to watch.
@PipiFilm
Two years later and
#Catradora
still stands as one of the most iconic queer relationships in animation to date.
@Gingerhazing
depicted a heartfelt and genuine romance that left such an impact.
Here’s my piece as part of our continued pride coverage 🏳️🌈
