Ever wondered what the perfect orange in Animal Crossing is supposed to be? It's a dekopon - a hybrid orange breed that is sweet, sour, and super juicy! (it really is the perfect orange)
It's okay to be upset about Pokemon Sword + Shield cutting tons of Pokemon. It's okay to not buy the game. It's okay to encourage others not to buy the game.
It is not okay to harass the developers on their personal social media accounts or professional pages. Full stop.
This guy got interviewed on Japanese TV about why he's visiting Japan. His answer? Because he played Yakuza and wanted to see what Kabukicho was really like (even though he was a little scared). Beautiful
Yakuza 3 is available TODAY on PS4 with:

Yakuza 4 is coming late October, and Yakuza 5 is coming February!
Zuckerberg wants to make a virtual world where you can hang out with friends, customize your very own living space, wear whatever you want... Man it already exists have you heard of the hit MMO Final Fantasy XIV with a free trial up to level 60 including the Heavensward expansion
Is your child texting about Yakuza?
Here's what these acronyms mean:
IDK: I'd Date Kiryu
SMH: Saejima's My Husband
WTF: Who's This Fuma?
ILY: I Love Yakuza
LMK: Listen to Machinegun Kiss
AKA: Akiyama Kicks Ass
GG: Gorgeous Goromi
LMAO: Let's Manage An Orphanage
Sad to hear today of the passing of Tetsuya Watari, who among various major TV and film roles also played Shintaro Kazama in the Yakuza series. Rest in peace, Patriarch.
Some personal news:
After six truly special years as part of the Atlus/SEGA family, today is my last day with the team. (Short appreciation thread incoming)
With less than 12 hours until Kingdom Hearts III, remember:
Please be considerate with what you post after release. Some people won't be able to play the minute it comes out, and there's nothing worse than an accidental spoiler, especially on a game you've waited a DECADE for.
Everyone who complains about censorship in games needs to be taking a long, hard look at this situation. A Taiwanese company can't publish their game on any major platform because of one obtuse (long-removed) reference to China's president
THIS is what real censorship looks like
Earlier today, it was announced that the game Devotion is coming to GOG. After receiving many messages from gamers, we have decided not to list the game in our store.
If Judgment review scores aren't enough, there's a substory about a rampant pervert I named Ass Catchem and I've never been prouder of a name in my life
Playing Yakuza does not make you a Yakuza fan.
Actual Yakuza fans have done some of the following:
-Gotten a back tattoo
-Adopted a pure child
-Blown up the Millennium Tower
-Beaten up their brother
-Sang karaoke while dressed as an orange
-Done at least 100 shooreh-pippi
Apparently there are twins in Cyberpunk who are named "left" and "right" in Portuguese... but the word they used for "right" doesn't mean the direction, it means "correct".
Just a slight demonstration of the importance of native speakers checking your work!
O designer chefe de quests do Cyberpunk twitou que pra escolher o nome de dois personagens irmãos do jogo, ele só traduziu os termos "left" e "right" pra alguma língua aleatória q a pronúncia ficasse boa, no caso o português.
A tradução ficou ESQUERDO e CERTO
KKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
Funimation just bought Crunchyroll for $1.8 billion... meaning they both damn well have the money to pay their localizers an appropriate wage. Here's hoping for actual change
I always describe the Yakuza series as "virtual tourism"... Well, here's why. The attention to detail in these games in insane - went I first went to Dotonbori Osaka in real life, I already KNEW my way around because of how accurate the map from Yakuza 0 was
Yakuza 0 released 3 years ago today in the West! Thank you to all the fans new and old who have supported us so strongly since then - we love you all ♥️🐉🐕
"Bar Lives Matter" represents so much wrong with this country. Equating your thirst for a happy hour to a movement fighting for the basic rights of black Americans is beyond fucked, and further demonstrates the absolute lack of human decency shown by so many in our country.
Attention to detail is one of my favorite things about the Yakuza series.
I went to Osaka last year after having played Y0, and I knew EXACTLY where I was and where I wanted to go despite never having physically stepped foot in Osaka in my life. Pretty incredible, if you ask me!
No game, no matter what it is, deserves what The Last of Us 2 has gone through the past 3 days. People threatening streamers, attacking fans, harassing devs, review bombing, accusing reviewers of "shilling"... It doesn't matter what you think of the game. This is disgraceful.
Something that's been brought to my attention today: it seems like Kiryu's outfit in Yakuza 3 is based off a Beat Takeshi film from 1993 called Sonatine! The film also takes place in Okinawa and is also about a yakuza who's growing tired of the yakuza life!
With the full release of the Yakuza Remastered Collection today, the long journey that started in August of 2018 has finally come to an end. So! There's no better time than now to thank everyone who helped bring this behemoth (6+ MIL Japanese characters) across the finish line
Yet another Western dev trying to capitalize off "quirky Japan" with a ~wacky~ take on a niche genre.
There are so many good, genuine, heartfelt Western VNs you can play - please give them some love before kneeling to the KFC overlords
Thinking about the whole virtual tourism aspect of Yakuza again - and how incredible it is to see it translate into *actual* tourism. For those unaware, Kamurocho is modeled off Kabukicho, the real life "red-light" district of Shinjuku
I am:
⚪️ single
⚪️ taken
🔘 playing the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV that has a free trial up to level 60 including the first expansion Heavensward and is 50% off on Steam until July 9th
One more moment in defense of Tom Nook: he actually donates 90% of his earnings to an orphanage... but keeps it a secret because he "can see the value of having a boogeyman everyone can unite against". I love him 🥺
Humbled and immensely proud to announce that I was a producer, editor, and a few other things as part of the 8-4 localization team for Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes!
A lot of people put a massive amount of work into this thing, hope you all enjoy it as much as we did! ✨🦁
I've been meaning to do a thread on this for a while now, but it's finally time I talk about my greatest shame and perhaps most difficult localization experience I've ever had - the Yakuza 6 LIVECHAT.
As strange as it feels to be celebrating while the world is how it is, I'm proud to announce I've been promoted to Associate Localization Producer at Sega! Thank you everyone for your support over the years, and look forward to what comes next ✨
I already posted about this loc change, but! It's worth further spotlighting to highlight the perils of translating too literally.
Old loc left, new loc right.
In the old version, Kiryu sounds... aggressive, right? You might be interested to know there's a reason for this!
Exciting news: I'm proud to announce that as of today I've joined the incredible team at 8-4 as a Localization Producer/Senior Localization Editor!
Things are a little weird starting remote but I'm glad to be part of the team!
Yakuza 6 came out 4 years ago today! It was the first game in the series I worked on, and will always hold a very special place in my heart - not only because of my work on the main story but also all the ridiculous Yakuza charm in stuff like live chat and Ono Michio ❤️
Yakuza: Like a Dragon, featuring the adventures of an unemployed 42-year-old man, an unemployed 41-year-old man, and an unemployed 60-year-old man (taking sick selfies, of course)
One of the things I'm proudest of in the Yakuza Remaster Collection is something that might have flown under people's radars a bit: English karaoke lyrics. Not only did we localize all karaoke songs across all three games, but they're even singable (no easy feat, I assure you)!
Yakuza works so well because these insanely goofy moments punctuate an intense crime drama with tons of down-to-earth, deeply human moments
Come for the chicken, stay for the tears
Yakuza 7 changed its battle system to be more like Dragon Quest... which means Dragon Quest XII is changing its battle system to be more like Yakuza, right? RIGHT?
Fun fact: if you've ever heard the word "skosh", as in "just a skosh" (meaning a little bit), it actually comes from the Japanese word 少し (すこし/sukoshi), also meaning a little bit.
Apparently, it entered the American English lexicon during the occupation of Japan post-WWII!
Thinking about this Kiwami 2 substory where Kiryu joins in on a group interview, tells the recruiter he used to be in real estate, and says he's always thought of starting in orphanage - love that self-referential series humor!
In terms of the release, there are two different ways to buy:
1) Digital bundle of all three games, which unlock sequentially. Yakuza 3 NOW, Yakuza 4 October, Yakuza 5 February
2) Physical bundle of all three games,
releasing along with Yakuza 5 in February.
Both are $60!
"Visual novels aren't real games" is just a backhanded way of saying that people who play primarily visual novels aren't "real gamers"
Please remember to be inclusive - gatekeeping helps nobody 🙂
FFXIV stans do literally anything that's not FFXIV and talk the whole time about how they'd rather be playing FFXIV. Is that game digital crack or something
Here's my
#4Games
! I've worked on many more than this but these are the ones I'm proudest of. Always any honor to have the opportunity to work on these incredible series 🥰
